They would want you to have a laser fingerprint scanner to be able to get onto your internet account too. You would have to have a space or page like your Myspace. The sites that you go to(large corp sites) will be hooked to your account. No more going to Google and having mom and pop sites come up because most people wouldn't be able to afford the packages that could go to those sites and vice versa. They will dismantle the internet we currently use(internet 1). The regulated one is internet 2.

I dunno about you, but I get a bill every month from my ISP. IE, we're already paying to get access. Why should the companies with more money be able to pay them on the other side to shove their content down our throats.
Think of it as me sponsoring a Taxi ride to my restaurant: I'll pay $2 for every taxi ride to my restaurant to encourage customers to come. The only ones that will probably "have" to pay would be big sites like Google, but that'd be good for us because if they "have" to pay, it means that either 1) it costs less for the ISP to run the web, and some of those savings go to the customer (you understand tax incidence, right? Same idea here.), or it means 2) that site will run faster for us. Or both.
The only reason I couldn't see this working like that is if you had a monopoly in your town. However if you live in a suburb or a city like most Americans, I can almost assure you that you have at least two high speed ISPs (I have three!) and a lot of slower ISPs. (Oh, and did I mention that getting rid of net neutrality would help ISPs that can't afford giving fast access to every site?)
So basically its selling out the last frontier of free and equal speech, expression and communication to the corporations....so that some websites can go faster?? The whole idea is ridiculous. The ISP's don't 'RUN' the web.
Who said we'd be doing that? For every couple of sites that gets blocked, the ISP will probably save dimes, but lose a valuable customer that pays hundreds. We wouldn't be selling any speech. And even so, the right to speech is not a government grant to the means of communicating that speech. Lastly, no speech is "equal." If all speech were equal, my novice, crappy videos of me playing the piano would have as many views as Evolution of Dance. And all Internet servers would be the same speed.

What we really need is fibre for all. Symmetric bandwidth. If providers are capable of handling that, *then* we have net neutrality, because now *you* can post your movies on *your* home server again instead of on youtube. The notion of ISP bandwidth limiting on a per-site basis is a red herring.

They would want you to have a laser fingerprint scanner to be able to get onto your internet account too. You would have to have a space or page like your Myspace. The sites that you go to(large corp sites) will be hooked to your account. No more going to Google and having mom and pop sites come up because most people wouldn't be able to afford the packages that could go to those sites and vice versa. They will dismantle the internet we currently use(internet 1). The regulated one is internet 2.

no. you're wrong. these are normal speeds now. its not like "50gb/s for sites that pay us, 15mb/s for sites that dont" it would be more like "15mb/s for sites that pay, 4kb/s for those that do not" or those sites would probably not even get connection at all.
If there was no net neutrality, for instance, you would need to pay extra, on top of your original isp price, just to come to youtube and act like a total retard

Think of it as me sponsoring a Taxi ride to my restaurant: I'll pay $2 for every taxi ride to my restaurant to encourage customers to come. The only ones that will probably "have" to pay would be big sites like Google, but that'd be good for us because if they "have" to pay, it means that either 1) it costs less for the ISP to run the web, and some of those savings go to the customer (you understand tax incidence, right? Same idea here.), or it means 2) that site will run faster for us. Or both.

The only reason I couldn't see this working like that is if you had a monopoly in your town. However if you live in a suburb or a city like most Americans, I can almost assure you that you have at least two high speed ISPs (I have three!) and a lot of slower ISPs. (Oh, and did I mention that getting rid of net neutrality would help ISPs that can't afford giving fast access to every site?)

Who said we'd be doing that? For every couple of sites that gets blocked, the ISP will probably save dimes, but lose a valuable customer that pays hundreds. We wouldn't be selling any speech. And even so, the right to speech is not a government grant to the means of communicating that speech. Lastly, no speech is "equal." If all speech were equal, my novice, crappy videos of me playing the piano would have as many views as Evolution of Dance. And all Internet servers would be the same speed.

In economics, a subject I enjoy, it's called "virtually unheard of." In business, it's called "business school drop-out." Please explain to me how businesses in a non-colluding oligopoly can somehow profit off of blocking access to nearly everywhere. Might as well pay your ISP for access to nowhere as you throw economic theory out the window!
