Korean and the Europen Haidong Gumdo Association need to apolgy and pay compensation to Japan, because they told lies that Japanese samurai and kendo was originated in Korea.
Why does the Japanese accuse the forged Korea samurai and Korea martial arts?
As for the reason, Korea samurai and the Korea martial arts of the imitation insist on a genuine Japanese samurai and the origin of the martial arts, and this is because it pollutes a Japanese samurai and the honor of the martial arts, and an usurption does Japan samurai culture.
i must say Gumdo is just copied the surface of Japanese Kendo only without the reason(理)and Samurai spirits.this is not Budo(武道) anymore,Korean changed worst as Korean twiddle leaping dance.
stop to exhibit fake Korean Budo in the Japan Expo in Paris!!!!

cool!but Korean Gumdo is very dangerous art, since they let children hold wooden swords or imitation Katana easily. In Japan we can't use its easily till master give the pardon.why Kendo use bamboo sword?since even just wooden or imitation sword can kill.if the children kill other people slily, could you accept the blame? Korean Gumdo show the brassy performances and get many student and money teaching in hazard without any definite knowledge.this is serious problem for society.
Haidong is not a historical existence, but is created in modern era. Main stream of Korean history is literaly, not military. Asian people and honest Koreans know that. In addition, why do they use samurai swords? If they are proud of their own culture, they should stop copying samurai culture. They are making their ancestors feel sad under the ground.
We all grew up learning of the Honorable Samurai, but not many of us know of the Honorable Muye warriors of Ancient Korea who defended themselves agaisnt invaders. Believe it or not Korea has never invaded any place, they hav ealways been invaded. So please quit bitching about Korean Gumdo. In the end there only so many ways you can use a sword, so who cares what its called.
@DustinAdam07 Read the top rated comment and shut up.
If you really did care about ancient Korean sword arts then you would be opposed to Haidong Gumdo as it's just Japanese sword arts with some Korean perversion mixed in.
Dae Han gumdo is very simliar to Kendo. Pretty much it is Japanese Kendo. EE SHIP SA BAN MUYE is a pure korean weapon system. It is derived only from the MUYE DOBO TONGJI and if you all dont know aht this book is go buy it. It is now translated in ENGLISH. Haidong gumdo has Dae HAN Kumdo roots, but it also has MUYE roots as well so in a sense its a hybrid of Both Japanese Kendo and Korean Kumdo.
I dont understand why people put down Korean gumdo. In both Korea and Japanese Do means the WAY. In japan Ken means sword and in Korea sowrd means Kum. So respectivily Koreas way of the sword is called Kumdo, and Japanese way of teh sword is called Kendo.
If you are an iaidoka you should know better than to say this. Rule three of HDGD is not to run down other arts. You won't see too many gumdoin bothering to sneer iaido or iaidoka.
It's not a katana, and it's not Star Wars, except to you, and you are a disgrace to the art you seem to claim you practise. Just what do the pleats in your hakama stand for, and do you live according to those values?
I agree with you Ilporko, I think its about time many of these many of these haidong gumdo flammers learn about their own art rather than putting down others. One word "Bushido"
'Bushido' is a Japanese concept from the Samurai era. Kumdo is a Korean art with strong Chinese influences. What do we care about the beliefs of a group of Japanese people from 150-odd years ago?
By the way, you came on here flaming us with 'Sat Wars' comments.
Now people who put down gumdo look up your facts. Japanese occupied Korea for a long time. So obviously there will be similar qualities in there sword styles. Even ancient korean sword practices like EE SHIP SA BAN MUYE has japanese forms. THe koreans wanted to defend themselves from the japanese. You cant defend yourself agiasnt something you dont know so they studied the Japanese system as well.
A follow-up to my previous comment. I studied kendo before switching to HDGD because it suits me better.
In Kendo, the aim is to develop character by using a bamboo sword in a fight in honour of samurai traditions. In HDGD the aim is to develop character through the principle of pain and the principle of precision.
No comparison, but some people still try to make one. Why can't these people just accept that both arts can be good?
Meh... Read up on the history of kumdo rather than relying on what a bunch of people on youtube said. You'll find that kumdo isn't made up and has lots of value.
What art, if any, do you do? I'm guessing it's a Japanese one.
oh you mean the history when the inventors of haedong gumdo admitted in court under oath it was a made up art when they sued each other over the copyright
The curriculum is not the 'history' of the art. While the first form has 12 cuts and is part of the curricvulum and was formalised in 1982 after at least 25 years of research, the cuts and moves in that form, which are the art, date to the 1400s, or are derived from gicheon, and before it taichi, or kendo.
The founders said they used a name from the 1950s or 60s, and wrote the curriculum and formed the federation. They did not say that the cuts, moves, sparring methods, meditation, and physical training of kumdo are made up.
Korean and the Europen Haidong Gumdo Association need to apolgy and pay compensation to Japan, because they told lies that Japanese samurai and kendo was originated in Korea.

It is monkey business to insist on the Korea samurai and martial arts without a Korean having existed.
It is a fact that Korea was a dependency of Chinese 明、清 for a long time(500year) in 李氏朝鮮 Korea.
There are not society background and the base which there is a samurai.

6.Why do you accuse the Korea martial arts of the imitation?
If an imitation copies brands such as Vuitton or Armani, and an imitation forges it with a genuine article, and a monkey business, can you be angry?
All of you wanting to be the world martial arts do not be deceived.
Only Japan has the genuine samurai and martial arts.

Only military arts book of 李氏朝鮮 Korea.↓
★武藝圖譜通志序"Muye Dobo Tongji" The introduction describes,
國練兵之制三軍練于郊,衛士練于禁苑,其禁苑練兵盛自 光廟朝,然止弓矢一技而已,
(訓練は弓を撃つこと一つだけで、その他を扱う方法はなかった)
mean↓↑
"Archery was the only martial art that had been practiced by Korean soldiers."
wolfpack13000 6 months ago
The Korean Peninsula does not have the fact that a samurai and the martial arts developed in history.
This is because there are not the social background and base which there was able to be a samurai in Korea.
There is neither the document of the history nor the documents.
A civil officer is a key figure, and, by Confucian teaching, Taketo be looked down upon,
There was only Taketo of the dynasty guard and a government official of the part of police.

Korea has no Samurai. She lacks what Japan has always had. - a
cultured body of men, superbly trained in both mind and body-
From COREA THE HERMIT NATION by William Elliot Griffis " An American orientalist" in 1928.
No Samurai - No Samurai Sword - No Samurai culture..

Japanese are spreading lies that Koreans copied Japanese style.
Chinese & Korean styles are focused to fight SEVERAL enemies in surrounding environment.
Japanese style is more focused on ONE on ONE.
Basic strategies of Korean & Japanese are DIFFERENT.
Europeans don't accuse other Europeans of copying their style of fencing, archery, etc.
Even the Chinese DON'T accuse Koreans of copying their style.
Only Japanese accuse Koreans of copying their style.
Chinese > Japanese
