  • Loving all these singles I first heard as a man in my twenties back in the 60s. This group were way ahead of their times and still sound good even now!

  • heard it as i found the 45 since 1982.still loving it to hear it.;)

  • thumbs up if your watching this in 2011

  • Hey, 1:54: Terri Geonoffrio from "Rosemary's Baby"!

  • John B. Sebastian: What a writer! What a singer! What a great band was the Spoonful.

  • I think song came out in Spring (May?) 1967 Neon rainbow, Box Tops, came out later the same year.

  • Brilliant song. I love when he sings "And the bells didn't ring with the same heavy sound!!" Gives me goose bumps :)

  • Of course, this composition is almost painfully good. But the band is really cracking here. The drumming in this song is excellent! When I was seven years old, the performance on this song was what inspired me to play drums. Such a range of expression.

  • "Six O'Clock" and "Neon Rainbow" by The Box Tops really take me back to high school in Kokomo, Indiana in the 60s. What a great time. So laid back and we didn't have all of the "fast-paced" technology that we do today. It truly was simpler and, for the most part, I think a better time even with the Vietnam War going on. Sebastian is such a great story teller with his songs!

  • @werbeone This isn't the box tops.

  • One of their best. It didn't get much airplay when it came out, but still a great tune. Nice audio & video. I do a version of their song "Jug Band Music." Regards, The '62 Mathew St. Band (1 Man-Full Group Retro)

  • @OlRetro Seems it got enough airplay reach #15 on Billboard. Not bad.

  • Love these guys! 1966 Rocks!

Just saw John Sebastian a few years ago in SF. Sounds and looks the same. See him if you have a chance.

    RIP, Zal.

  • This is like Metal!

  • As a kid, he was one of the first clever lyric writers I heard. Amazing rhymes and ideas. And cool music.

  • Zalman Yanovsky put out his own LP in 1970. Rolling Stone dubbed him "best of the bad voice singers"

  • @IanHunedoara8 that doesn't seem like much of a compliment!?!?

  • @fntime As Bullwinkle once said to Rocky the Flying Squirrel--"Just listen"

  • @IanHunedoara8 THEN CAME THE COMMERCIAL ...

  • Stereo RUINS this song.

  • Brilliant, sparkling, vibrant and evocative!

  • The Lovin' Spoonful. Jug-band rock group formed in NY. John Sebastian(vocals, Guitar, harmonica), Steve Boone(bass), Zalman Yanovsky(guitar),and Joe Butler(drums).Jerry Yester(keyboards) replaced Yanovsky in 1967.Band disbanded in 1968. Summer in the City only #1 song in July of 1966. Band was inducted into Rock&Roll Hall of fame in 2000. Sebastian's solo song "Welcome Back" made it to #1 April of 1976. I have A couple of their 45s, and, their greatest hits on reel to reel tape.Oldies/Goodies!!!

  • It's so good to hear this song again! The 45 RPM was among my extensive collection of records, bought when I was growing up. Sadly, they were all lost during a move to another town nearly 20 years ago. Thanks for posting!!

  • Thanks man, a great song...I wish there was a psychedelic version...brings me back

  • "Never Going Back" never got the acclaim it deserved.

  • Amen to that.

  • Underrated band

  • It's still hard to believe he came all the way back in 77 with "Welcome Back Kotter" lol...

  • Thnx 74. The world realizes..JBS was inducted into the Songwriters hall of fame.

  • So good!! My favorite from my teens.

    Thanks.

  • great song

  • A rare song, but it was only "Fair"...

  • Yeah It's is a Great song! I Love this song & the band..but Iv'e never heard this one before.
