  • Makes me wanna get a Gibson ES175...but I course I cant make it sound as good....ha. Howe is so under rated when the great British or any guitarists of that era are mentioned. Check out a Ritchie Blackmore solo and u might say the same thing.

  • @StratsRgreat N ice music from the early seventies. I agree upon the guitar subject. Me too!

  • yours is no disgrace - but these fucking adverts are

  • Great performance! Loved it!

  • lost it 8.50 bye....

  • playing rock should be made wearing a cape

  • 1:10 what's that gadget of Rick's that looks like a cash register?

  • Craft The Popular Song!..Design The Human Being!

  • When we listened to the music at the time and liked it, we didn't realise the musicians were committing a political crime by being able to play their instruments well.

  • I always wanted to see these guys......Hope I can one day.......LOVE this song! Thanks for posting!

  • steve howe not in top form in this cut....no doubt the reason why this take didnt make the yessongs album. chris squire showing why he's the greatest bassist of all time...no offense to tony levin

  • This song has such an interesting syncopation to it. And it pounds you upside the head with it.

  • 11:20 'holy shit'

  • Steve Howe......Guitar god!

  • A panacea...just amazing!

  • I saw Yes many years ago. I remember Steve Howe being very small and Chris Squire was about 6' 5." Very loud as I recall. Great band!

  • it WAS too loud back in those days..I sat right up in front for the Tales from Topographic Oceans tour and twice up-front on the Relayer tour (with Patrick Moraz) and I about went stone cold psycho Deaf from the experience (s)..memorable yes but way too loud for ordinary human ears.

  • "pointless displays of technical expertise" - they used to get slammed by the rockmusic critics for this kind of jamming/thing, I could not agree with that mode of expression or criticsism - I absolutely LOVED 'YES' and their jams are unfucking unbelievable; the only thing i might add is that Steve Howe as a soloist was apt to play too loud

  • Erano anni che non ascoltavo questo pezzo...alarihos81 tnx for this upload...amazing!

  • OMG... the memories flood my mind, its over whelming. thank you

  • Jezz Louise, I was there! Brilliant.

  • Im sorry I really cant stand Alan Whites playing on the older Live stuff...(Yessongs). I do like his playiing on Tales, but wish it had been Bruford playing Tales instead... but then we wouldnt have had those awesome Crimson albums with him. Just MHO

  • @CraftyGtrist ...I was surprised to see that Bruford finished so high on the 100 TOP DRUMMER list....(6th)

  • @CraftyGtrist True, but you're forgetting UK and the Bruford albums as well. Wherever he played, it made the band gel so well. One of the greatest ever

  • This team has always been great. This music is timeless.

  • Steve Howe's greatest guitar solo ever was the Yessongs version of Yours is no Disgrace. This version is Shite by comparison.

  • This sound and looks so much better than the Yessongs movie. I hope much more of this show surfaces. Some great playing by Howe, stepping out of form here. Love it.

  • Fox!Rock'sCzar!...I wish that I were "strategically placed" and "supernaturally wealthy!"..I Am!...but do oui beleive in true metamorphosis and The Living Sons of God Overseeing The Humanity!...a Nazi Zeppelin was NasKaTaulsceulako!..All Times Universal!..(NasaCatastrophic?)

  • when I look back in time it was one of the first songs from YES I did learn to know. the whole record was a gas and I still do love it. they´d grown out of their shoes but hadn´t yet fallen into gigantenism. that´s what makes it so authentic and unique. oh man if I just would´ve been more than just a small boy living in a small village at that time!!!

  • no denying the greatness of Yes--Howe leads the way and the band still play as one--exceptional!

  • @juliano66 yeah but they would be even better if Jon was to take his rightful place.

  • Best Bass in the world at the time, Stev Howe brilliant lead, Jon Andersons voice ,! I still believe the Yes album was the best .

  • Amazing performance! Thanks.

  • classics! ...they just marinat;till we need em AGAIN!

  • It's sad that Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer and the Moody Blues are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! This is great music!

  • @jeromejoh12 Paul Newman never won an Oscar while much lesser actors have won 3!!!! Halls of Fame are designed by buffoons to make a trap for fools!!!!!!!!!!

  • im completely tone deaf but even i can tell that this music is better than now

  • @mittROMNEY666 lol..truth

  • It started off a bit tentatively but once it got going it was great. Steve Howe's playing is fantastic and makes me want to practise ( which I rarely do). He's inspirational and the band are one of the best prog-rock bands ever!!

  • @aristotle358 Say not "Prog-rock", say brilliant extended compositions conceived by musical geniuses.

  • Guitar genius!

  • Comment removed

  • É um prazer ouvir o Yes. Possivelmente o melhor grupo de rock-progressivo juntamente com o Pink Floyd. Absolutamente fantástico

  • @alfredo4485 I agree totally!

  • This is MUSIC!!!

  • @Katelittle22 what 'band' of todays politically-correct music even begins to approach this level of awesomeness? & creativity...or IMPROVISATION..like Yes did. and made it sound amazing..To think these adventurous songs were once MAINSTREAM! :D compare whats 'mainstream' now...LMFAO..shit. I'll quit while I'm ahead :-*

(scary to think what music will be another 10 years! :-0 devolved into looped unchanging "beatz" with synchronized farts woofing in the background or something..)

  • So rap music is better than this how?

  • :o)

  • great band!

  • Don't ever leave Steve Howe out of the conversation about the greatest guitar players ever!

  • @RRB760 I agree!

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT

  • 6 people are deaf

  • Looks like the bass player was way ahead of his time. Already had a wingsuit.

  • This is before Chris Squire got real fat.

  • its a shame jon is just standign there for most of the songs, becuase i feel yes songs have more insturmental parts then singing :P

  • @MoPower2112 there is'nt much room on the stage is there

  • YES YES YES YES. To all who agree Yes wad an awsome, melodic, rocking outfit. YES YES YES YES. Equivalent to Zeplin, each had their own aura for me.

  • @GRUMPYJB01 yeah!

  • Pure Awesomeness. Saw them "in the round" in the 70's xxoxxo(:

  • SI

  • next to Genesis the most technically perfect band ever

  • @lnglv70sprog Could not Agree more!!!!!!!!!

  • Greatest band of all time! YES is not a band, it's a spiritual place that you journey through and experience through music, tone and sound.

  • Steve Howe was a little valued from the criticism. He is among the best guitarists of every time

  • @boys5l the typical word in ytb comments is "underrated"... thanks for having said it in other words!!!

  • he makes his guitar talk? hear it?

  • @Syzygy60 why are you so strange?

  • SICK Steve Howe solo in the last 1/4 of the song! WHOA!

  • Check out Steve Howe's tutorial DVD's of his big solos and riffs, he still plays them spot on..I saw Yes on this tour in Vancouver, it was Eagles, Edgar Winter (with Ronnie Montrose) and Yes, what a twisted line up, country harmonies, some wailing albino psychopath and this elegant superbly talented outfit..they were brilliant

  • wheres the drummer? or does yes not have a drummer thats a member of the band?

  • I was there circa 1972. My best Yes album would have to be Close to the Edge. Or Relayer???? Or Fragile .... Who's your favourite child?? Not any group has ever come to the heights of Yes, ....until ... Opeth!!!! They are now the torch bearers for well crafted music! My favourite album ? Well, probably Deliverance, Or .. My Arms your hearse", or Blackwater Park .. oooohhh darn ... history repeats, so many years on ....

  • Their timing and speed was simply the best. They would describe Howe and playing so hard that he appeared to tie himself up in knots.

  • is their drummer for this alan white

  • I was at the YES concert in Glasgow and it was superb they've still got it :)

  • GREAT THANKS TO YES AND ALAIRHOS81!

  • @robadude32 thank you guys for watching and liking this video!!!! I never thought it would become this popular!!! I feel great knowing I can help people reach great music and vice versa.....

  • @alarihos81 Hey man GREAT THANKS TO YOU! I am a fan since 1971 (all good people) I once in the seventies went spontaneos by nighttrain from Swiss to London to see them live. I know every Album from this time and every note is fixed in my brain. .. we are all close to the edge!

  • the best thing about that solo steve does is that he could do the same solo today the exact one. he is a master for sure

  • WHAT A TREASURE!!

  • jesus the speed of the guitarist i thought it was just rick wakeman going off on 1 as usual but the guitarist keeps up he was the yngwie malmsteen of the early 70,s and by the looks of things faster than jimmy page why has no one heard of this band i know everyones heard of rick wakeman but the other guys deserve credit too

  • This is Alan White You can hear it immediately. Maybe you can't see the drummer so well because it was right after Bruford quit. Wonder about the year.

  • I assume that it's Alan on drums? There was no direct shot of him that I could see.

  • I was supposed to see Yes in 1988 for their Big Generator album, Trevor Rabin had "the flu" and the show was cancelled. I ended up seeing Robert Plant and Stevie Ray Vaughn instead.

  • Genius , this is the best I've seen

  • Has always been my favorite track on Yessongs. Howe is without question one of the great guitarists. Hard to believe Rolling Stone just released the "100 Best Guitarists" and he isn't on the list!

  • @whitmoredave Good grief, really? He's not in the best 100? He should be in the top 10. Nobody ever played like Howe before or since - he's got a unique approach to playing and is so inventive and intense.

  • @marstrings I see there's no place for Martin Simpson or Allan Holdsworth there either. John Lennon and Willie Nelson make the list? Competent guitarists only. Ah well, typical top-lists nonsense then! Right, I'm back to listening to some more Steve Howe now....

  • @whitmoredave Fuck Rolling Stone! Became just another Corporate Magazine. Not relevant for good music

Not even its articles on Politics are interesting anymore

  • Saw this tour in New Orleans....ahhh youth!

  • Sorry for the double posting below -- I'm learning how to post a coment. ( as I said I'm old! lol. I'm still using "R" mail----- It's when you tie a note to a rock and toss it as far as you can! HA!

  • @brualkar ....Dude, I'm 53 so don't sweat it. I still listen to YES, Emerson Lake n Palmer and the BEATLES on a regular basis....Real Rock will never die

  • IMO.....When Bill Bruford left Yes, Yes's music became very boring. Alan White brings nothing interesting or creative to the band. I saw them just after Bruford left. Had I'd known, I wouldn't have gone. I was very disappointed in the way they sounded. Bruford was light-years ahead of most drummers at that time.

  • @bluesimage1

He was not the man for the job. Bruford was the creative back bone to what made Everyone the band unleash their genius:).aka Steve Howe, Chris Squire, jon Anderson, Tony Kaye & Rick Wakeman. Any other line up were primative and less exciting. Your excited people, probably have a fetush or costumes.

  • i was there

  • I remember my first concert. The arena was dark. Then, a spot-light shown down on the lead singer and I said to myself, "That's it! That's what I want to do when I grow up!" And 10 years later my dream came true. I was a spot-light operator! Yea!

  • @mozartfx1 funniest shit ever hahaha

  • Thank You For Preserving This! It is originally from the film "Yessongs" and was shown in theaters long before it came out on video. I think I went 4 times! The camera work is so disappointing: they don't show Steve doing that superb playing! Turned many friends on to Yes with this one (from the double LP). Indeed a brilliant performance. They were approaching the height of their powers! Thanks again! Hey, is this out on DVD??

  • John Anderson has to be thinkin' 'how the F did I get this gig?'

  • Seeing YES in their prime was a truly great experience. They were the masters! Music, light show, Sheer presence.

  • I'm suprised that by the end of the song Steve's guitar wasn't a pile of sawdust :P

  • Awesome. I enjoyed every second

  • I wish we would have such a recording for Purple and there 3 Mad in Japan Concerts in Japan.

  • Most fluid guitar solo in history in this song!

  • Was that "I'm So Glad" in the beginning!??!?!?

  • @CommunistDancefloor Nice spot - I reckon it is

  • saw this in a theater in '76. we were Very high.

  • @originaltbyrd So where they! saw them 7 times, need to make it an even 8, before they leave us behind!

  • What is that thing Chris Squire is using with his feet at 4:46?

  • Can anything beat this apart from the absolutely appauling camerawork?

  • You can tell Rush really wanted to be these guys.

  • his brain must get sore, so good, and complex and so much thought

  • Saw Steve Howe in the Tampa Theathre awhile back solo. Amazing guitarist. I think everyone in the room that played guitar just thre theres out that night. CLassical and rock, either or, it did not matter. It was just him dazzling the audience. Wonder show. Actually it was a few years ago. He looked old. Kermit the froggish.

  • If you didnt see yes live in the late 70's IE going for the one tour in the round then u dont know Yes. Stop all the bullshit .years from now we will listen and enjoy all those many years ago.

  • I always thought that Yes wasn´t a very good live band. First of all the keyboards were just too soft compared to the guitar. Then the pretty hard guitar sound met a bass sound that was hard as well and not bassy or warm at all. This mixture made it hard to listen to them a whole show.

  • LOVE YES!!!

  • I'll never understand why modern music critics look back on Prog Rock with such hatred. They call it self indulgent, pompous, bombastic and pretentious. Prog bands sold millions of records and packed arenas and stadiums with legions of devoted fans. What the hell do they think the more revered rock bands of the late 60s - 70s were playing? Similar, over the top shit. Have they ever actually listened to Prog Rock? It kicks ass! So, they looked flashy and used too many lights and theatrics. BFD!

  • Mr. Hendrix never heard this!!!!To think he asked Chris to join his failing "Experience"?Noel just Sucked.Jimi knew that!

  • Anyone with a rock mind knows this is the "LiveAlbum"which all are measured.

  • Haven't seen this movie in years... now I'll have to get it. That was the Close to the Edge tour, and could hardly have been a better choice. They were among the first to play really long stuff in concert. Most people thought the audience wouldn't have a long enough attention span but thank god for non-conformists like Yes!

And I don't care what they did later or what they look like now. C'mon folks, everyone gets older. Personally I liked the 90125 tour also.

  • Came to Vancouver in 1971 as the unknown "opening act" for Jethro Tull and absolutely blew the minds of everyone in attendance. This was pre-Wakeman and Alan White,it was Tony Kaye and Bill Bruford and it was a magical evening.

  • the way rick wakeman and alan white picked up so quickly on the music written by tony kaye and bill bruford was amazing

  • 13 minutes of bombastic guitar and not ones blues scale to be heard.

    Take that Eric and Jimmie

  • @ciliaris2 im pretty sure i heard 1 or 2 in there.

  • At 11:03 he looks over to Chris Squire. To this day he still does that at this point in the song.

  • @rapskallion My guess is he's telling Chris to get ready, my solo is done.

  • @spasticinbondage "Yes were always the thinking man's or in rare cases, woman's too, prog rock band of choice." Yes!!! I am one of them. Women that is. Yes and Genesis. Genious!

  • @iloveyes1 very rare. prog rock is the sausage festival of the world most of the time haha.

  • @ConspireToConspire I'll take that as a compliment ;) I enjoy the music more as the years go by. I love the complexities and intricacies of the music like I do a good bit of Dvorak, Elgar or Mendelssohn. My tastes are very ecclectic and include some present day UK artists like Blur, Coldplay, Elbow (awsome!), Amy Winehouse etc etc but couldn't live without my prog!! Didn't know what I'd been listening to all these years was a genre unto itself until very recently. I appreciate your reply.

  • O... M... G...

    Amazing!

  • I wish in retrospect during his solo Steve Howe had sauntered over to that microphone and, pausing briefly in his frenetic fingereing to utter an Ian Anderson deep inhale!

  • The talent!

  • Ah, the '70s....the capes, the shoes....

  • Steve Howe is really into it. Absolutely amazing!

  • i wish i could have grown up in 72 wear a cape and not have my motives questioned

  • BRILLIANT! AS FOR NOT BEING IN THE R & R HALL OF FAME? THEY ARE FAR FAR BEYOND MERE WORLDLY RECOGNITION OF GENIUS ---- SADLY, SUCCESS IS MORE OFT DEFINED THESE DAYS IN TERMS OF COMMERCIAL VALUE.

  • Steve Howe at his prime.............. Heard this song when I was 14 or so ........ Been a true yes fun since 10 y/o . Had the chance to see them in Madrid in '03 (The Full Circle Tour) while I was on my post grade............ the same line up ...... I was on my feet the whole night.......... Haven't heard the new record mainly because I'm afraid to get dasapointed. I rather remember YES as they were.

  • Hello Jack!

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Yes for the first time in 1973, New Haven Conn. What a show. I have seen them several times since then.

  • 11:19 ...this about says it all. Love YES!

  • what are they wearing?...love it....where's the Rainbow? england somewhere?

  • There is progrock and there is Yes.

  • 3 dislikes!!!!

The best band the uk has ever produced

  • Steve Alien Howe

  • What in the world was up with the video/film editor for this clip? Every time Steve Howe launches into his melodic riffing between verses we get to see instead Chris Squire playing his bass or Jon Anderson playing the tambourine! This guy has a poor sense of timing and musical framing. Such a great rendition of the song, too.

  • I could swear the (somewhat messy) intro was based on * I've Got the Music in Me * as song by Kiki Dee in ... 1974. Or at least, that's when it was released. Is this really a concert from 1972?

As about "better quality video": the first Sony VCR was released in 1971 and quality was very poor by today standards, so it's amazing a decent video from this performance exists.
