which bays were you in for the greenbone?if you dont mind asking.I was just over in Milford for the first time in 5 years,its changed a bit...not as many big fish..anita bay/fox bay were the best while i was there.but even then we were only getting sorta 15 a day between 3 of us...plan on going back soon so let us know!
this was at the entrance of preservation if I'm not mistaken. I don't know the area well enough to pin point you tho but it seemed very exposed and probably only dive-able when it's calm.
@mzdkTV ahh ok cheers,sounds like outer north dale point,just outside the marine reserve.and yeh its straight out in the open,only got to dive it a few times unfortunately

I don't and I wouldn't unless for it's for snapper snooping. But even then you can unclip your float as it's not very hard to hold on to a snapper in reasonably shallow water. But most spearfishing shops will be happy to set you up with a reel. Are you in NZ?
