Thank you for being the best person in the world, and building this car. I have a 78 (I know, the G body is nothing compared to this!) But I hope to build it up, and one day own a 70 like yours. I love the combination of everything (I first saw it in CHP) And the end result of 11's in the 1/4, and 150 on the track!?! I want to build one just like it. That is my life's goal. You are the man!
@bucktheusa I was gritting my teeth at the thought of the corner coming up at 150mph! :) Handling was excellent. Would benefit greatly from the use of an air dam and some blocking of the grill opening to keep the air from getting under the car and hood.
Rear sway bar was not needed. Pinion angle was adjusted s it was parallel with the transmission angle. You can see all the mods I made to the suspension here: cardomain(.)com/ride/703372
I have 86 Elcamino w/ a small block .305 with a edelbrock intakes, and a standard rochester quadrajet. Should I save my money and buy a .350 and rebuild it, or should I upgrade the .305?
looks like road atlanta

I'd be gritting my teeth at 150mph with a stock suspension in that brick.
I know, I know. I got one so I can say brick.
What did you do to the rear suspension?
Did you put a rear anti-sway bar? From a Chevelle or a Hotchkis setup with different 4-link and bushings?
Did you sandbag it or nose up the pinion angle so it hooks up?
Just curious...Nice to see someone putting their foot into it.

Is this an original LS6 car? I noticed the functioning cowl induction flap.
kickZtailout 2 years ago
@kickZtailout It was an original L78 375hp 396 car. Even more rare than an LS6.
krefly 1 year ago
what all have you done to it?
helpyhandything 2 years ago
I would love to do this.

Then do it! It's easier than you think. And more fun that you would ever guess.

I also have an 86 elky what did you have to do to yours to put in the big block? I was thinking of replacing my 305 with a 454.
Razielsfire 3 years ago
This is a '70 El Camino, not a '86. It came from the factory with a big block.

350. Better yet, try and find a 383 or get a stroker kit for the 350 when you rebuild it. You'll be happy you did.
