I think Alan Ladds disarming charm and vulnerability were the ingredients that endeared him to many movie goers. Shane was the perfect fit for Alan as he so expertly conveyed an outdated lost gunslinger, attempting to distance himself from his past. This movie was my all time favorite.
I have just listened to the interview - it was lovely to hear David Ladd talk about his dad so fondly. There is so little out there about Alan Ladd and its nice to hear about him from someone who knew him really well and clearly loved him.
one of the greats; truly; as a actor; he had much to overcome; but he was good on the screen. he went through extreme poverty as a child; starvation--according to a bio on him--contributed to his short stature--but he was a big man-on celluloid--and to countless leading ladies--he rocked!
No Doubt, "Shane" was one of his best movies I still enjoy watching it from time to time.. Alan Ladd's voice worked perfectly on his radio show called, Box 13You'll find it somewhere on OTR programs.
There could never be another Alan Ladd. A true original. Shane, Branded, Whispering Smith and so many others. I remember seeing them all in theaters. He was the most popular actor during the late 40s with the people. Thank you for that sensitive montage.
Yes,the GREATEST Movie EVER! Thanks Mr Alan ladd,I'm sorry you had to be so much like SHANE,an honorable lonely Man,I suppose it's what makes the character so sympathetic. I can't see Anyone else in the role of SHANE.
God Bless Alan Ladd

How many actors can lay claim to starring in the leading role of SHANE without doubt the best western ever made.

Shane - the greatest artistic achievement in the history of cinema, imho.
Mr Ladd should take a lot of the credit for that.

Ladd should have won an Oscar for his performance in this movie. It is one of the classic performances of movie history IMO.

Glorious music, but deadly - you spend the entire day whistling the tune.
How we all wanted to mother poor, sad, magnificent Alan Ladd, even the blokes!
