Photowirral - You re totally wrong I'm afraid. They didn't make an Extreme, the ZT 500 is owned by the MG Owners Club and the ZT 385 was due to be unveiled towards the end of 2005.
The ZT 260 is a superb car (I have one) and whilst its not perfect, it is a superb car to drive and handles superbly.
They developed a ZT Extreme which was 385BHP, but they cut corners due the usual 2000's Rover lack of funding, and it was absolutely awful to handle. They needed to do a LOT more work than just increase the power of the engine, and in the end, they got it to a decent stage, but the entire rear chassis would have needed redeveloping to attain a confident public release. They actually sold a production standard prototype to an MG club, but where it is now is anyones guess. Shame!
I wouldn't have told TVR that.... The Modular was easily ready for Euro IV compliance and took very little tweeking to get to this standard. The original Rover V8 was getting difficult to tweek for the burgeoning emissions standards and was finally replaced with the BMW V8 (used in Range Rovers), and consequently Jaguar AJ-V8. MCT engineering now holds a license to build limited quantities for aftermarket and replacement use.
The ZT 190 is FWD. the V8 is RWD. I had a 190 now have 260. and trust me it is far from slow. But if you want alot of bank for your buck, the ZT 260 is alot of car for the money. Another good buy is a face lift ZS 180 V6 .
its not the v8 :)its the 190, explains why the mg is not pulling away that much. if your intrested in the 260 v8 4.6L look up the dreadniught turns it into a 400, well except LPGs
Great footage of the MG, and good work on the editing too! Can't wait to get mine out on the track...

Didn't they make a ZT375 too. It's basically a 260 with a HUGE supercharger and power not shy of 375bhp.
TopGearBoy12 3 years ago
Dreadnought in Scotland will fit a supercharger that turns the ZT 260 into a ZT 400.

Why mention the slower V8 ZT? Stig did 133 dead in a 190 and the 260 was 2secs slower around the top gear track!

Its a V8, a front wheel drive 190 wont light up the rear tyres, check my videos for a graphic comparison of 190 vs 260.

Certainly the V8 260 model. The ONLY model with RWD is the V8 and it was done in both facelift and prefacelift models. Great motor!
The V6 190 model is FWD as stated already.

the ZT190 was a RWD car, my dad had one briefly. but id say that was a 260. too slow to be a 400
jamiehn123 4 years ago

the '190' is rovers transverse 90 degree v6 24 valve. soooo.. the 190 is FWD. just google it! :D lol

Great ZT

Certainly that's a ZT V8 - the front wheel drive ZT 190 doesn't slide the back out like that under power!

I agree, it's definitely the V8, tail out, rear wheel smoking fun. I thought it did pretty well considering the competition. Great vid!
