Strep throats are usually noticeable by looking into a mirror and lighting your throat with a flashlight. There should be swollen lymph nodes on the sides with speckles of white stuff. Gargling salt water alleviates the pain associated with strep throat, but might not eliminate it if it's a bacterial infection. Antibiotics cease the proliferation of new bacterial cells.
