  • he said shtuck! instead of stuck!

  • typical lazy sugarloafer workers

  • I feel bad for y'all up in maine, in Washington, one of the smallest resorts, Mount Spokane, is 6000 feet tall and gets twice as much snow on average than sugarloaf. Well, more powder for me!

  • This is awful. I hope those skiers are alright & I hope the resort doesn't get sued too bad.

But be honest, does anyone else think "Sugarloaf" is like the coolest name in history?

  • Some one in my grademom had to go to the hospital cuz she fell

  • lol

  • Terrorist attack.

Rape-Scans at ski resorts is next...think of the kids and stuff...

  • @Tressco this is what you call operator error, high winds+ iced sheaves= deropement, the lift should have been slowed down or shut down but it was ran anyway

  • It could have been much worse, so thank goodness it wasn't.

  • idk if the newer lifts are heavier - they are built for high speeds.

  • TG they had that to get help up there...I mostly ski Southern VT & the surface lifts (except Magic Carpets on the Bunny Hills) are an endangered species or already extinct.

  • I have been skiing my entire life & it is most definitely a dangerous sport, lift ride included. People are herded into higher capacity (6/8 packs) and faster lifts. That being said, it is also alot of fun and can provide an adrenaline rush if you push your skill level. What occurred at SL today is NOT common. Whatever happened to surface lifts? Alot safer in windy conditions than a chair or gondola. Time to buy that helmet I keep procrastinating on...

  • @vtskibabie I partially agree. What is unfortunate is that there is a t-bar right next to the lift that derailed that goes to the exact same elevation. I imagine it was running but I'm sure holiday crowds played a part in the decision to run the chair. Although,I would argue that because the higher capacity 6 or 8 pack lifts are heavier, they are safer in high winds.

  • 6:30 is the lift that derailed.

  • If the cable has "snapped" as the host said, ALL the chairs would be on the ground and people would be dead. The cable derailed it didn't snap. The lesson from this is not that ski lifts are dangerous but that Ski Patrol is amazing. Remember this the next time you complain about a lift being on wind hold.

  • is that nervous making for you at all? where did this moron learn english?

  • @1dabirdman USA.

  • @1dabirdman nervous making is actually a valid term, albeit a strange one.
