  • That was the fucking funniest thing I've seen all day.

  • There used to be monuments for McCarthy all over my neighborhood, but now they give you a ticket if you don't clean up after your dog.

  • these people dont have the ability to figue things out for themselves. all they do is repeat the lies the media tells them. communists murdered a 100 million people but somehow mccarthy was the bad guy. fools

  • mccarthy didn't do anything to stop the communists from killing all those people... did he do anything about Stalin? not that i've heard of.... he couldn't. what he DID do was throw a lot of baseless, false accusations around, labeling people as communists when they really had no connection to communism

  • Venona Files. Look it up.

  • i did, and there was no mention of mccarthy specifically, only the concept of mcarthyism in general, and even then it was only a passing reference

  • Proud to say that I have had the opportunity to piss on the grave of Joe McCarthy in Appleton, Wisconsin.

  • did you really? no for real did you?

  • Thank you BenAllGtor. Now I have a goal!

  • i've got to make that one of my goals in life lol

  • Something most people don't know is that the House on Un-Amcerican Activities was founded in 1938 by a Republican to advise Americans against entering into WWII. Pretty damn ironic, if you ask me.

  • Yeah good thing we fought World War 2, that solved everything!!!

  • Without Communists, World War II would've been lost for sure. They were adamently anti-fascist and did much to support the Allies. Then in 1946, Republicans took over Congress and it became a sin to be one. Communists began getting kicked out of unions and other organizations after various loyalty oaths were instituted, effectively outlawing them.

  • Anti-fascist! That's a good one...I'm sure even Stalin is laughing at that one.

  • Stalin did have fascist tendencies, I'll grant you that (So did the Romans and Abraham Lincoln, if we're making a list). Nevertheless, the Communists were staunchly opposed to the fascist movements in Europe and proved indispensable to victory in WWII.

  • Yeah and that worked out great for us didn't it? Communist battles in Vietnam, Korea, Communist slaughter of 100 million in Russia and Ukraine, Communist/Marxist Israel. Neo-cons, Trotskyites, Dual Citizens are Commies; Kristol, Chertoff,.Feith, Ledeen, Wurmser.and on and on.....Hooray for the people's movement huh Comrade?

  • Wait a minute...did you just compare Stalin with Lincoln?

  • Martin Luther King's spiritual call for all people to treat each other as equals doesn't sound Communist to me, it sounds pretty American, actually.

They're two completely different things! Feel free to disagree with what King promoted but pretending it's Communism just removes your passionate argument's credibiltiy.

I do agree that it would have been interesting if McCarthy had lived longer. Perhaps his legacy would be quite different and history would have an alternate view of him.

  • Joseph McCarthy was not 'right,' not even in the context of a political stance. His baseless fearmongering got him censured by his own party and he was despised by Eisenhower. I'm amazed that anyone can still admire this un-American despot as being patriotic, but it's a very real thing in Red State America.

  • This video is clearly a satire. The speaker has very distinctive and obvious leftist mannerisms and speech and is clearly attacking McCarthy, not praising him. And most on the Right lack the ability to detect satire so they don't see it. There, I've stereotyped both sides of the spectrum. Can't anyone look at things from an objective middle anymore?

  • What is a "leftist mannerism"?

  • I can't describe it, but just note the similarity with Michael Moore (to give just one example) in mannerism and speaking style, for instance, and check out and see if you notice any right-wingers with similar styles. Yes, it's stereotyping, not all leftists look and sound like this, not all rightists are blind to satire, but in a general sense....there are things that tend to go along with political persuasion.

  • Interesting! I just saw a comedian having fun with the whole idea of building monuments and picking a controversial figure to do it with.

I guess in that Michael Moore talks to the camera and isn't always scripted so we hear the pauses and thinking behind his voice this fits. I hadn't thought of that.

  • I watched it again. I don't hink Moore waves his hands so much. They tend to stay at his sides a lot. But I can see that reminding you of Michael Moore creates an association in your mind!

I wonder if many of us (left and right) make snap political judgements in our lives guided by sense memory associations more than the issues?

  • It isn't the gestures so much as it is the voice and vocal style. All I can say is that even if he had never even mentioned McCarthy or any political issue, there is something in the style that just instantly identifies him as being on the left (and more specifically, the campus/chic/"campy" left). There are some on the right that are just as obvious in their style, though it's a different style, of course (Rush Limbaugh, etc.).

  • This country owes a great debt to McCarthy. He definitely should have a monument.

  • No one referred to me as Anti-American. Edward R. Murrow was called anti-American. I was pointing out that tossing around words like traitor and anti-American only serve to confuse real issues. If someone believes Edward R. Murrow was an opportunist who just wanted to advance his career, that's one thing. But how is that un-American? We could say the same thing about McCarthy.

  • America is suppoesed to be a country for opportunity and opprtunists. The same qualities are either either vilified or celebrated depending on which side of an argument we're on. It seems so many of us judge the same actions differently, depending on which side of a debate we're on. I'm simply tired of people being shouted down rather than actual debate and discussion. Nothing gets accomplished.

  • ABOUT TIME somebody stood up for this fine american, and DEMANDED a proper rememberance of his crusade to keep america free for all decent, liberty loving people! If you think this man is kidding, fine, BUT IM NOT, and I will write to congress to petition them for this honor. ALL traitors should be hunted down and tried for there crimes!!!

  • Oh please.

  • The fact of the matter is the good senator was right. There were communists all over the place. According to declassified Soviet archives, we now know for certain that Alger Hiss was a Soviet agent. Even when faced with the facts, liberals will hide and not do the right thing. Lillian Hellman and Paul Robeson never condemned Stalin - even when they discovered that he had murdered 30 - 60 MILLION people. God help us from "true believers." The Kool—Aid must taste good!

  • Amen! glad to here sombody agrees with me! Senator McCarty should be elevated postumously awarded a medal for his good works! Murrow was an antiamerican opportunist who just wanted to advace his career!

  • Thank you. It's hard to fight the full court press of the press, as it were, when they are determined to destroy someone. The good senator got screwed.

  • Yeah well Mccarthy was a drunk, a morphine addict, a bigot and a psychopath who just wanted to advance his career.

  • Wait are you talking about JFK or Joseph McCarthy?

  • JFK was a hero compared to McCarthy. Hell, he's a hero compared to anybody. Plus, he died a martyr instead of a drunk.

  • @revolt1915

For being a drunk and drug addict he did pretty well, everything he claimed

proved to be 100% true. The Soviet Archives showed that there were

hundreds of Soviet Agents all through the US Govt.

  • Brilliant! xD

  • If I ever become President, I swear I will build George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Joseph McCarthy memorials.

Plus, I'm going to make it a federal crime to deface them.

  • Why?

  • Sounds like something Stalin would've done, making it a federal crime to deface a monument. If you weren't such red-baiting moron, you'd sit back and realize that it's already illegal to commit vandalism of anything. Your singling out specific monuments as being 'more-illegal' to deface than others clearly betrays an irrational chauvinism towards one political party.

  • "He's ripping a comic book astride an eagle." Hmm, do you know, I think he might be joking.

  • I swear, the day I become President, a monument will be erected for Joseph McCarthy, Ronald Reagan, and George W. Bush each.

  • Hell why not re-chisel Mt. Rushmore with those faces and add Adolf's face to complete the facist quartet!

  • Ah yes...the "Nazi" association ploy...never gets old does it dolt.

  • No it never gets old or any less true. McCarthy spent years branding anyone who disagreed with him as a communist, so I am just returning the favour. In any event in the early part of his career he did not give a toss about commies. He later saw it as a bandwagon to fame and perhaps the White House. Thank god for Welch!

  • McCarthy was dead on with his branding of commies...go look up Venona before you post the same old lies.

  • So what if some of the people McCarthy accused were Commies. McCarthy destroyed the careers of many innocent people to catch a few reds. The fact is in a democracy you have a right to be whatever you want to be even if that means being a Communist. Freedom of Speech does not just apply to the cosy Republicrat concensus.

  • You keep mentioning people he destroyed...like who? I have yet to understand why people think that being a commie is somehow speech related. That's called being subversive to a limited degree. Should we have commies in government? The know ones gave up state secrets to the Russians. You know the guys that wanted to nuke us or send us to a gulag. Why defend those that would rather see you in chains?

  • Like a good right-winger, McCarthy's platform was based on lies. He admitted that he never had a list of Communists in his hand. He went outside the law with his investigations. And to top it all of, the Republicans ended up censuring him. He was a dick and everyone else knows it.

  • Many were affected by both McCarthy and earlier HUAC witch-hunts. Dalton Trumbo, Edward G Robinson, Charlie Chaplin, Milo Radulovich to name a few famous cases either lost their jobs or were threatened with blacklisting because of supposed communist sympathies. Commies in government? Yes if they win an election (democracy!) We are the good guys do not fight what you hate by becoming it.

  • Densaner you were doing good until the election part...with a win for one commie, the Constitution is trashed. As for Commies in government, I guess you didn't look Venona up.

  • I guess you do not believe in democracy. Why are you so scared of taking the Reds on at the ballot box? If the Republicrats are so great then surely they will beat those godless communists every time? There is already one member of the US Senate who claims to be a socialist whether that makes him a commie or not I leave for others to judge.

  • Amen Brother ! Communism.. 100 million dead

  • I do not know where you got the figure of 100 Million from but you should read Killing Hope and Rouge State both by William Blum. Those books show the millions who have died at the hands of the CIA and their assistants all over the world.

  • 100 million came from the "Black Book of Communism". From Stalin to Cambodia, North Korea etc..From the school of "you've got to crack a few eggs to make an omlette..

  • Yes plenty of eggs were cracked in Chile, Iran, Guatemala etc. by the CIA and their cohorts. The CIA helped support the Khmer Rouge during and after their time in power. Instead of blaming all the bad things in the past on "Commies" perhaps you should look closer to home. The figures in your "black book" are widely disputed anyway.

  • Plenty of people have died for all kinds of idealogy. The question isn't which idealogy is "good" or "evil," it's how much is a human life worth.

  • I agree. Some of the things the CIA have done are unspeakable just as much as the things Stalin et al were clearly responsible for. If the cold war showed anything it was how bestial people on both sides of the divide could be give the right or indeed wrong circumstances.

  • No, Ideology is germane. Communism led to the slaughter of 100 million Russian's /Ukrainian's alone due to crop seizure, then starvation. Zionism has led to scores of dead Palestinians and strife the world over due to the issue. Funny same group...

  • Please name a few of the "many innocent" people whose careers were ruined and I'll name some of the commie bastards he fingered. Also he was going by a list ("Lee list") that was compiled by the State Depts own security investigation along with the FBI. This was not Mccarthys investigation. He just had the names. He was mearly asking WHY had the Dept. not acted on the information. ..read a little learn a lot !

  • You said it geese...anyone with a brain that can get over the "McCarthyism" drumbeat knows the guy was dead on target. What was worse was the FDR did zero, to get the know commies out of his administration. Imagine what McCarthy could have done during that time.

  • Too bad FDR got economic results by working with reds and moving out of the Depression. That meathead Hoover was going around saying that the best way to help dirt poor people was for the government to do zilch, just like future GOP ninnies Reagan and George W. Hopefully, we'll get some 'godless liberal' into the White House next year and pull our country out of this hell-hole, where millions haven't got insurance and jobs are going overseas.

  • Actually FDR got few economic results(a ton of his programs were rule un-constitutional). My Grand Father was a young 13 year old in FDRs commie inspired CCC camps. It wasn't until the War that the economy picked up.

  • As for all the jobs going overseas, you got that part right. But guess what? Everyone likes buying crap from Walmart and not buying US made goods. 40 years ago the largest employer was GM...now it's Walmart. Reagan and George have nothing to do with that. Look in the mirror. Do you own a foreign car? The Japs make darn sure to build their plants in non-union, right to work states. So when you complain about jobs moving out to the US just remember that.

  • I don't own any car at the moment and your saying "the Japs" sounds more than a little xenophobic.

  • they say Yanks...I say Japs...no xeno here dude.

  • @densaner77 Sure, if it were up to you you'd have marx, lenin, trotsky and mickey mao's faces on Mt. Rushmore instead, you filthy communist.

  • @frzam7. Yeah and i'm sure your Mt. Rushmore would have Hitler, Franco, Pinochet and Ann Coulter. You fascist pig dog! Workers of all Countries Unite! :P

  • @densaner77 Sorry mate, but I like the current Mt. Rushmore just fine. And I hate neocon zionist boot-licking warmongers like Ann Coulter. But I guess anyone who is or would have been opposed to Marxism is a "fascist" pig to you, including folks like Lincoln and Roosevelt, not to mention Churchill and George S. Patton. They're the real defenders of constitutional government and democracy, not Marxist rhetoric-spewing retards like you! I'm sure one day you'll make a fine neocon. Good day.

  • @frzam7. Up yours Adolf!

  • Very Funny, just like a saturday night live or MAD tv skit.

  • ditto as well

  • oh come on, if he's serious then I'm Saint Peter.

  • No thanks, Trafalgar Square already has 4 statues of British tossers from that period whose legacy and actions are highly questionable!

  • Things are always a matter of perspective. Benedict Arnold was essentially a British patriot who wasn't interested in Independance! I wonder if they there should be a statue of him in Trafalger Square! lol

  • This must be a joke. However the idea of building a memorial to that creep makes me want to puke. While they are at it they should build one to Judas, Benedict Arnold and Vidkun Quisling. Who like McCarthy are sadly overlooked in the official memorial department.

  • Has to be a joke, look at that tie.

  • It's about time he gets a monument.

  • Only someone evil on the scale of Ann Coulter would actually idolize someone like McCarthy.

  • @kpominville

Come on Timmy..at least prove that McCarthy was wrong. Truth means a teensy little bit doesnt it?

Every thing that McCarthy said proved to be entirely correct when the Soviet archives were

opened up. Soviet agents were all through the US Govt.

  • Definitely a joke

  • Please be joking. Please, please please be joking.

  • dito

  • Hilarious! Unless he's serious, then it's just scary.
