I have the 2007 Mazda6 V6 S, I can spin my tires all the way through first,chirp at second and sometimes a little squeal at third and the car is bone stock
If you get a V6 then yes. Engine is porsche engineered and heads made by Cosworth. However automatic tranny is mazda, so not so good but still adequate. Manual tranny is good. If you can buy one with 3 liter engine (taurus/escape swap) and manual gear box you will basically have dissent inexpensive sports car. Go for it. 4 cylinder big no no.
4cyl Ztec that you have is ok with the horse power but can not provide enough torq for such a heavy car as cougar. Meaning your 0 to 60 suffer greatly against V6. Combine 4cyl cougar with automatic tranny and you get a turtle. Further more your engine`s reliability record loose greatly against V6 (I myself fixed one with blown head gasket when on the other hand nobody ever heard of a blown head gasket on duratec) the same goes for the life span. Anyway that is just mine professional opinion :-)

Ok then, grand am's grand prix (excluding GTP), 98-01 accords, V6 Camaro and Mustang (excluding new edge), intrepid, Charger V6, Dodge storm (non turbo), Sentra, to name a few. I think a stock Cougar can handle those V6's. When you start adding turbos and s/c it's outclassed. Then again this is paper racing and is good for nothing, like I said tho it's been a while since I had a stock Cougar so I'm not 100% sure what a stock Cougar can beat.
Oh right lol American, I forgot the Sentras weren't V6's. That's the thing tho, there aren't many V6 imports other then European cars to be honest. They would much rather throw a turbo on a 4 banger. Car and driver (07) says both the speed 6 and 3 run a 14 flat. When the cars first came out tho they had the same engine, the 3 was just smaller so it was faster. But like you said very driver dependent. That V6 Mazda tho is a Ford engine 3.0L Duratec, Cougar has the 2.5 duratec.
Actually, its the opposite. Duratec engines are Mazda design, thats why they still run after 30,000 miles. Either way though, Mazda6, Honda Accord, Nissan 02+ Altima/Maxima 3.5SE, Most Acura sedans, etc. All V6. It was less common before, but now most cars from glorious Nippon have 6 cyl. =p
Cosworth made the Duratec engine, but the Ford team went to Cosworth and asked them to design it. Cosworth makes F1, indy, and GT engines. Ford did own Mazda at that time as well, I believe the Duratec is considered a Ford engine. Cosworth does make engines for Subaru, Nissan, and Mitsubishi as well.
Nice race, looks like a blast. I do think the Cougar could a launched a bit harder but it doesn't have much of a chance against the 6. Few facts the people seemed to miss. the base V6 new mustang has 205hp not 250, so yes a charger RT would walk you. The Cougar S never made it into production so no you don't have one. The Cougar wasn't designed for 1/4 mile racing, its a drivers car and made for twistys. The Cougar also has 170hp stock and will beat most 4cyl's.
Yeah most 4cyl's not all because there is lots of economy cars like the Ford Focus, mazda 3, camry, etc. That the cougar would beat,. civic Si is a drivers race. I tend to forget how fast a stock Cougar is tho because I don't have many problems from the cars you mentioned in their stock trim. The RSX-S would be a fun race, haven't raced the 'S' yet.
But you're picking all 4 cylinders. The 6 cylinder cougars are the ones with 170hp. The Mazda6 V6 model is of course going to win. American Engineering is at its finest...tons of displacement but terrible HP/L.
@Cordius both cars use essentially the same engine design. The mazda 6 just has a bored out version of the 2.5 v6 the cougar has that displaces 3.0 instead. And at the time the 200hp the s versions of the 2.5 v6 made I would hardly consider that horrible hp/l

Speed3 and Speed6 are both good. Speed3 isn't really faster, though. The Speed6 has the AWD which helps from a dig, though the Speed3 might get a slight jump on the 6 from a roll.
Well when you put the same exact engine in two cars you generally accept that they will have close to the same performance. The minor difference is the fact that FWD can't launch well on a strip. 13.6+ is not laughing matter, though. It's quick.
well, yes the 1999 cougar blows, even the 2000- 2001 with 2.5s wich is 197hp.. You can get it quite a bit faster by reprograming the chip.. It gets horrible gas millage.. I had one getting 16 mpg AVG..
I do know know what im talking about. There is a standard 2.5 V6 and there is the Optiotional 2.5 S. 197Hp.. I got one in my drive way.. go play some more video games...

Well, it's only good for about 150 horsepower at the crank...most four bangers can put out just as much power if not more and are significantly lighter than the cougar. The one in the video has a few bolt-ons and now has the SVT upper and lower intake manifolds and the throttlebody....it held it's own pretty well the next time it went against the Mazda6 haha
and the engine I believe is a V6 250hp, its a smaller car than the cougar though, and looks a LOT better than a VW R32 (i hate those Mini Cooper style cars, such as honda element, pt cruiser, scion xB, all gay as FUCK). I will give the R32 credit because it drives SO fucking good and fast, but the look is simply a gay's rainbow colored shame. So the EOS looks like a cooler Jetta and has 250HP or maybe even 300 in the top version. 0-60 around 5 sec, you could beat cougars & mustangs in it easy!
the car i would like to have right now is a Volkswagen EOS, they came out in 2006, i got to test drive VW's Audis and a couple of Bentleys where I live (all owned by VW), and the EOS takes some parts from the bentley like the awesomely large doors, the hard top convertible feature (such as the convertible bentley has), also almost the entire roof is made of glass aka a huge moonroof if you dont want the top down. base i think is around $30K, and top-end model is around 40K.
ah ok, well i did drive a plain 250hp base 2005 mustang, and it was pretty weak, but still felt about the same performance of a V6 cougar at least.... i havent had a chance to drive a GT mustang or a R/T charger but i was up next to an R/T charger and i floored it, i thought he did too, and we were next to each other for a few seconds, next thing i know he steps down on the gas for real and flies ahead of me like nothing. i was PWNED. lol.
yeah I believe the new v6 mustangs are a bit more powerful than the v6 cougar. This is my friend's car and he's had the chance to drive a v6 stang which he claims feels much faster. Hard to believe a 4 banger Cougar would stand a chance against any new Mustang.
alot more id think, though i believe its also heavier. I have a 2000 cougar v6 mtx and while it has 170hp (or had when it was new)they arent very strong horses..but the car handles great. its no sports car but its very fun for what it is and grips well (or maybe thats just the new falkens..)

agreed. everyone hates on certain cars b/c they're slower than other cars... but there's always going to be someone faster than you. its not about having the FASTEST CAR its about getting a car you like, and making it more your own. making it stand out, blah blah you get what i'm saying.
i have a cougar myself. header back exhaust now. i beat an older tuned eclipse, fairly new civic, but not a cobalt. wtf? its not about that though. its about fun

Ok then, grand am's grand prix (excluding GTP), 98-01 accords, V6 Camaro and Mustang (excluding new edge), intrepid, Charger V6, Dodge storm (non turbo), Sentra, to name a few. I think a stock Cougar can handle those V6's. When you start adding turbos and s/c it's outclassed. Then again this is paper racing and is good for nothing, like I said tho it's been a while since I had a stock Cougar so I'm not 100% sure what a stock Cougar can beat.

Oh right lol American, I forgot the Sentras weren't V6's. That's the thing tho, there aren't many V6 imports other then European cars to be honest. They would much rather throw a turbo on a 4 banger. Car and driver (07) says both the speed 6 and 3 run a 14 flat. When the cars first came out tho they had the same engine, the 3 was just smaller so it was faster. But like you said very driver dependent. That V6 Mazda tho is a Ford engine 3.0L Duratec, Cougar has the 2.5 duratec.

Actually, its the opposite. Duratec engines are Mazda design, thats why they still run after 30,000 miles. Either way though, Mazda6, Honda Accord, Nissan 02+ Altima/Maxima 3.5SE, Most Acura sedans, etc. All V6. It was less common before, but now most cars from glorious Nippon have 6 cyl. =p

Cosworth made the Duratec engine, but the Ford team went to Cosworth and asked them to design it. Cosworth makes F1, indy, and GT engines. Ford did own Mazda at that time as well, I believe the Duratec is considered a Ford engine. Cosworth does make engines for Subaru, Nissan, and Mitsubishi as well.

Nice race, looks like a blast. I do think the Cougar could a launched a bit harder but it doesn't have much of a chance against the 6. Few facts the people seemed to miss. the base V6 new mustang has 205hp not 250, so yes a charger RT would walk you. The Cougar S never made it into production so no you don't have one. The Cougar wasn't designed for 1/4 mile racing, its a drivers car and made for twistys. The Cougar also has 170hp stock and will beat most 4cyl's.

Yeah most 4cyl's not all because there is lots of economy cars like the Ford Focus, mazda 3, camry, etc. That the cougar would beat,. civic Si is a drivers race. I tend to forget how fast a stock Cougar is tho because I don't have many problems from the cars you mentioned in their stock trim. The RSX-S would be a fun race, haven't raced the 'S' yet.

But you're picking all 4 cylinders. The 6 cylinder cougars are the ones with 170hp. The Mazda6 V6 model is of course going to win. American Engineering is at its finest...tons of displacement but terrible HP/L.

@Cordius both cars use essentially the same engine design. The mazda 6 just has a bored out version of the 2.5 v6 the cougar has that displaces 3.0 instead. And at the time the 200hp the s versions of the 2.5 v6 made I would hardly consider that horrible hp/l

Speed3 and Speed6 are both good. Speed3 isn't really faster, though. The Speed6 has the AWD which helps from a dig, though the Speed3 might get a slight jump on the 6 from a roll.

Well when you put the same exact engine in two cars you generally accept that they will have close to the same performance. The minor difference is the fact that FWD can't launch well on a strip. 13.6+ is not laughing matter, though. It's quick.

well, yes the 1999 cougar blows, even the 2000- 2001 with 2.5s wich is 197hp.. You can get it quite a bit faster by reprograming the chip.. It gets horrible gas millage.. I had one getting 16 mpg AVG..

Well, it's only good for about 150 horsepower at the crank...most four bangers can put out just as much power if not more and are significantly lighter than the cougar. The one in the video has a few bolt-ons and now has the SVT upper and lower intake manifolds and the throttlebody....it held it's own pretty well the next time it went against the Mazda6 haha

and the engine I believe is a V6 250hp, its a smaller car than the cougar though, and looks a LOT better than a VW R32 (i hate those Mini Cooper style cars, such as honda element, pt cruiser, scion xB, all gay as FUCK). I will give the R32 credit because it drives SO fucking good and fast, but the look is simply a gay's rainbow colored shame. So the EOS looks like a cooler Jetta and has 250HP or maybe even 300 in the top version. 0-60 around 5 sec, you could beat cougars & mustangs in it easy!

the car i would like to have right now is a Volkswagen EOS, they came out in 2006, i got to test drive VW's Audis and a couple of Bentleys where I live (all owned by VW), and the EOS takes some parts from the bentley like the awesomely large doors, the hard top convertible feature (such as the convertible bentley has), also almost the entire roof is made of glass aka a huge moonroof if you dont want the top down. base i think is around $30K, and top-end model is around 40K.

ah ok, well i did drive a plain 250hp base 2005 mustang, and it was pretty weak, but still felt about the same performance of a V6 cougar at least.... i havent had a chance to drive a GT mustang or a R/T charger but i was up next to an R/T charger and i floored it, i thought he did too, and we were next to each other for a few seconds, next thing i know he steps down on the gas for real and flies ahead of me like nothing. i was PWNED. lol.

yeah I believe the new v6 mustangs are a bit more powerful than the v6 cougar. This is my friend's car and he's had the chance to drive a v6 stang which he claims feels much faster. Hard to believe a 4 banger Cougar would stand a chance against any new Mustang.

alot more id think, though i believe its also heavier. I have a 2000 cougar v6 mtx and while it has 170hp (or had when it was new)they arent very strong horses..but the car handles great. its no sports car but its very fun for what it is and grips well (or maybe thats just the new falkens..)
