So, what does the orange gear attach to? It spins in the opposite direction? And what is the point of this whole setup...why not just a single-plane planetary? I can't quite wrap my head around it.=/
All gears, even bearings have losses in torque and power, but it most certainly won't lose speed (as in a hydro-transformer or any hydro-dynamic transmission)
Simply there is an input(the motors input into the gear usually), an output usually another set of planetary gears, and a reaction or held member. That produce two gear reductions(more torque less speed), two overdrives(more speed less torque), and two reverse gears(of which we usually use one)

what program are you using for all these?

The transmission in a Model T Ford uses planetary gears for first gear and reverse.

We use a planetary sytem for reduice the rotation speed and increased a torque. you can find it on a machine especialy Oilfield trucks

does anyone know if planetary gear has more/less or about the same efficiency as spur gear (two meshing gears) of the same ratio?

A spur gear has straight cut teeth, Helical(at an angle) cut gears are stronger, quiter, but also more expensive to manufacture.

@2l3 False. They are not stronger.

all gears are 100 percent effienct the torque converter would boost torque but take away some hp

Just to let you know this gear set is used in some auto trans applications
ray190te 3 years ago
what does this actually "do"?

Well it can be used in a lot of different applications.
If you watch it carefully you will notice that the purple gear is turning counter-clockwise whereas the orange gear is turning clockwise.
Can be used in car gearboxes for reverse gear.
