I actually got to meet Harry earlier today at my jazz band competition and we did a clinic with him and watched him play with the University of Missouri St. Louis and I must say he is probably one of the best trombonists I have ever heard.
There is sheet music. It's arranged by Paul Mutha for concert band. My trombone choir is doing it with Harry in January just using the clarinet, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and tuba parts. It works pretty well.
Great Job Harry. The Veterans so enjoyed your work at Yountville, CA - Vets Retirement Home. You are an awesome leader and player. Keeping the Spirit Srong!! Music the universal language!!
That is probably the greatest flight of the bumblebee arrangement i have ever heard! Fantastic job! Also, Harry Watters, you just keep playing that bone!!!!
@sonic7122 ever played a high C on first position and slide down, but go up the partials? you hit the C on first, third, 4.5ish, 5, and 6. and he was playing much higher than that.
i went to a clinic with this guy he's awesome! and he played this.. now whenever i'm sitting next to my friend in band and we mention his name i'll wildly play 16th notes n a super high register. and go Wowowahahehehahehe
@vtuttle1 Even if he is doing a lot of tonguing vs, hitting each pitch. It is just like doing the S&S piccolo solo on te tuba. I like hims doing the fake Maynard stuffs. LOL :0)
The tuba player chipped a note in the first 8 bars. Yes I was a Macom 02F player for many years. If I had male parts, I probably would have been in the Army BQ.
He was at the American Band College last summer and he NEVER stopped practicing... this is actually quite a bit slower than he played it with us. He was absolutely phenominal to hear.
Wow, that was incredible. When my friend showed me this, my jaw literally dropped. I'm a flute player, and I would have a lot of trouble with that, let alone a low brass instrument!
Haha It's funny how this is discouraging people. My trombone instructor went to school with him at North Texas, which means Harry Watters has been playing professionally for 30 years. It's not surprising he has this amount of skill. Of course, he could be singing those upper notes.
@nickmusiclover I know 3 high school trombone/euph players that can hit the notes he does in this video and I myself can hit them on trombone and I'm a french horn player. Not as musically or as pleasing as he played them but basically what I am saying is that for a pro trombone player those aren't hard notes.
I CALL BULLSHIT ON THAT PERFORMANCE. haha im jk, it was freaking amazing!!! consider my mind blown right now. and i always hate how people ask "omgz iz it possibleele to even go that highh?" and im like, duh, he just did it!!!! anyways, harry kicks ass.
When our band director played this video before our Marching Rehearsal today, I wanted to find a corner and go cry and write bad poetry about how I was feeling.
Hey ive been playin for 8 and sometimes u know your limits..he can double tounge in the upper register but some people can take the middle and lower registers and still amaze people its just how confident you play...but this guy does have a lot of people beat on the upper register so props to him
well, this guy teaches at George Mason University as the jazz trombone teacher. Hopefully I will get a chance to study with him upon the acceptance letter of my audition.
Dang son... This guy does work! Is he fretting the partials on that? It seems like hes using a lot of natural slurs the way he stays out past forth possision so much. This guy knows what's up. Thats for sure.
i'm sure once it gets that high up into the stratosphere you can pretty much play any note open or first position. works that way on trumpet not exactly sure about on trombone
@pedroesteban86 you are correct :) takes a while to get that high on trombone as some notes that are technically first position on trumpet up there should be tuned using your valve slide (or whatever its called, trombonist here lol), often trumpet players dont bother. On trombone you always do because its what you are used to :)
@pedroesteban86 It will work that way on trombone, it is just alot more complicated because of the quick embouchure change on a much larger mouthpiece.
@flooddude once you get into the triple high range(which is where he was at his highest) you can play anything in any position. the notes for the melody are chromatics descending down from A and when it goes higher it starts on an E. at least thats how i've always played. the most impressive part of this video is how fast he tongues his notes, in my opinion.
@flooddude once you get past about 6 ledger lines, you can play almost every note in first position. notice how he moves his slide everywhere while playing only one long high note
@flooddude There's too many notes to list them all, but the highest note (I think) is E (the space between the 5th and 6th lines above the staff (bass cleft))... And that's the first note of Flight of the Bumble-Bee.
