I think "it's been 36 yrs since Rod Stewart died" is referring to how he was never as good as he was with the Faces, maybe...idk, 70's Rod is the best Rod, imo.
The "Mother you wont recognise me now" at 1:56 - is that in case Mrs. Jones is watching and doesn't realise it's her son with that porn star moustache?
This is the good stuff man, LOVE Wood's toilet seat guitar . this was the grooviest band of the land in this era, Ronnie L is a happy lookin' chap , his back up vocals and bad assed Bass playin' make The Faces, timeless.
@rgbuzzrod Rod Stewart isn't DEAD! Who might you be thinking of I wonder? Brian Jones from the Stones or something? Am I the only one who caught this comment?
Only band ever who could go on stage absolutely pissed and make music this good! (for any American viewers, pissed on this side of the pond means drunk, not angry, over here, angry is "pissed off", subtle difference.
I know its easy to look back at this and say how great rock n roll was back then, but remember, the Faces only had one top 20 hit in the USA, so even back then audiences didnt recognize how great this band was. They could out rock almost any group back then and groups today dont even come close to rockin like this. Its great to see all the thumbs up for this. True rock n roll will never die.
@kapat45 Ronnie & Woody both left because they were both sick of just being Rod's sideshow act. Once they started to be introduced as"Rod Stewart and the Face" it was the beginning of the end. After Ronnie left they still carried on for some time with Tetsu on Bass and did not break up until after Woody left for the stones.Kenny didn't join the Who until well after the band had broken up. The point is NONE of them would have left if the band had carried on as a band and not as Rods side act.
@kapat45 Sorry but It was ultimately Rods fault for the demise of the faces. Maybe not directly, but certainly without a doubt indirectly. Rod would have been happy and content using the Faces as his backing/ backup band for as long as he could. In the end Rod wouldn't even show up in the studio to record new faces material because he was only interested in writing material for his solo career. Ronnie left and Woody soon followed. Rod's greater interest in his own career caused the split.
@TraderRockBlog I think you suck good music would slap you in the face and you would run..............RON WOODS guitar is a majic maker is wonderful.bet you had more ass wipes stuck to your ass....HA HA HA
Why don't bands have this much fun on stage anymore? Walking around and joking with each other. I don't wanna pay good money to come see you snarl and give me mean looks. Just play some rock 'n' roll and have a good time!
Faces fuckin rocked. Always amazing bass/guitar. As a teenager I went rooting through my Dad's vinyl and Nods wink just cried out to me, played it all the time! Also lovin those big old Premier drums.
@57Greggmak I'd love to hear more of this also but ol' Rod's pipes are a bit worse for the wear lately. Well, you're right, f! it, I'd rather hear him try to wail through 40 years of scratch than puss out. Rock on Rod.
how does one mic the drums to make them so dirty sounding without too much bass like this? I havent heard any modern live recording that sounds like this
Fuck, I love all the mob movies. I had to look this up, when I heard it in The Sopranos. I also discovered "I Ain't Superstitious" by Jeff Beck ft. Rod Stewart (from Casino)... holy shit, amazing song!!!!!
Not to mention all the Stones in mob movies, Cream, and The Animals.
I guess the Mafioso's liked some awesome tunes. Those movies even make Sinatra cool..
This is why folks need to give Rod a bit more respect. Sure, he started doing pop, when he got older, and is a bit cheesy now he’s 60 odd, but he and Ronny Wood were real rock pioneers at their peaks
Sweet Jesus!!!! Where is music like this today? Oh right, in Austin, TX or New Orleans, LA or is it in Memphis, TN.......no its all gone. SAD but I can still hit repeat on my stereo!
awesome song, makes me think of when i was a child, and than older when I was in the military. Also, I have to thank David Chase of the Sopranos, for introducing me to this song.
is it just me or has any one noticed that the piano and organ playing aren't in sync with what he's playing? I wonder how many of the instruments were prerecorded? But what a fabulous version. Beats the studio version.
I have always been a stones fan and remember reading about the faces through that. But when i heard Rod was the singer I thought of "if you want my body" and avoided. But then this song I found on the web and now I own all faces albums plus the box set plus the mercury albums of Rod. Assumption makes an ass of me and you I think thats how it goes?
So is nobody going to comment on the pure, unadulterated awesomeness of Woody's guitar in this performance? Looks like his guitar is right where all of their heads were :) What a fantastic band. Don't make 'em like this any more, that's for sure.
Such a shame they never got the fame & respect they deserved. They were just as good as the Stones and a much happier bunch as the Stones were/are always brooding about something. Its a damn shame that Rod chose to pursue his own selfish interests over that of the band. Woody would have never left, all of Rods early huge selling solo albums would have been Faces albums, and they could have cemented their place along side the Beatles & Stones as one of the greatest bands in history.
@jmanmango No, Plonk left first because he thought Rod was getting too popular and Woody was apparently always 'meant' to be with the Rolling Stones and he would have left. Kenney would undoubtedly leave as soon as he got summoned by the Who anyway. So, it really wasn't Rod's fault, he said himself that if Plonk hadn't left then the Faces would never have broken up. Although it's an eternal shame, these guys are awesome, I'd give anything to see them live. ROCK ON THE FACES! Best band ever!
Ronnie Wood’s a freaking awesome guitarist by the way. He isn’t the songwriter Keith Richards is, but I think he was a better blues/R+B/Honky Tonk guitarist in the 1970s.

Ultra cool!! Pasty white boys had so much groove....and bass was real bass, not just low frequencies pumped through a sub.
All current R&B should be erased from existence and everything rewound to the late 60's - early 70's...where cool was real!
