Accuracy aside, until Remington designs an action from the ground up as a dedicated sniper platform, what you're left with is a 60 year old modified hunting rifle. Surgeons are the closes the 700 pattern will come to a sniper rifle.

@DjBrandenburg216 To tell you the truth, Spec Ops guys dont want a fresh FNG, even if he makes it through the brutal training and all the PT shit. If someone went and got some experience and saw some combat, THEN went and did the green beret training, there is a much better chance to be on an A-team. I signed as an infantrymen. My plan is to go get some combat experience with the Rangers, then go to sniper school and hopefully get attached to a spec op unit. Thats just my plan, hoped that answer

If you just want to keep it simple, then go infantry.

I honestly don't see the point of this, add on a bunch of weight for what? A more comfortable stock or enhanced ergonomics? A flash light and red dot laser? You can get a bipod for a R700 in just about any configuration. I don't see the purpose of this. Cool looking rifle nonetheless.

It is being fielded in Afghan as we speak (started in April). Once you fire it, you will never want to give up this weapon, trust me! Ask any sniper that is using this in rifle, it is their fav. For the first time ever, the big Army has better wapons then SOCOM. SOCOM is very upset and jealous because they don't have this......

I can see how this would be good as a long range gun, because I assume it has a free-floating barrel and advanced ergonomics, but I would honestly rather have an R700 the way it comes from the factory. In many cases, they aren't really looked at as "accessories" by our warriors, but as essentials. Civilians just like them because they're cool-looking, and understandably from your point of view, that's kinda silly. But then again, liking race cars isn't silly.
