The Bob and Susan affair was a classic ATWT storyline. This is the storyline which propelled ATWT to it's peak #2 in the ratings right behind Y&R

ATWT won the Emmy for Best Show in 1991 for the Angel storyline where she was raped. They also won in 1987 for the same category, as well as Martha Byrne, Gregg Marx, and Larry Bryggman receiving the award.

I didn't start "taking a peek" at as the world turns until the Lily/Rose storylines and henceforth. Who was Angel and what was that all about? Thanks.

Angel Lange was introduced in 1988. She was involved with Caleb Snyder, but soon fell in love with Holden. The two wed and went to Europe. However, Holden still loved Lily, and he asked Angel for a divorce...which made Angel furious. She, along w/ her brother Barclay, tampered w/ Lily's car brakes, terrorized Lily w/ threatening phone calls, and "threatened" to kill herself if Holden did not leave Lily.

It was then about to become apparent why Angel acted the way she did. She and her brother tried to embezzle money from their father. When he found out, he confronted Angel, and then raped her. She then REALLY tried to kill herself by overdosing, but Holden got to her in time. Caleb then found out the baby she carried and had aborted was not his, but in fact, her father's. Caleb confronted Henry, but he eventually killed himself. Caleb was then arrested b/c he was accused of killing Henry.

Angel did not want to reveal the truth about what happened, but she finally confessed everything in court, and Caleb was free. After therapy, she realized the reason why she wanted to keep Holden around was b/c he made her feel safe. She finally granted Holden his divorce, and then soon after fell in love with Seth Snyder, the oldest Snyder brother. The two left town and live together in NYC.

@roscolane Yes- they were awarded the Best Drama Series award in 1991 for the episodes airing in 1990. Not sure if this storyline was submitted though.

Bob & Susan would have been my favorite couple, BUT the annoying writers had to give in.

These soaps were excellent and this show definitely deserved their Daytime Emmy.

Hey njlee,

Do you have any of the eps. shorlty before this, when Bob was agonizing over how to tell Kim the truth, and Kim & everybody else was disconcerted about what was wrong with Bob and then Bob actually telling Kim? I would love to watch those eps. again, I think there was like two or three or four eps. before this one that lead up to this, of both Bob, Susan & Kim's angst. And what is the exact dates on this and those other eps?

One of all-time favorite "opening scenes"...this is when soaps were at their finest...some of the best acting around.
