This song pretty much literally makes me fly. I can quite feel my astral trying to release it self through the iron bars of my skin and flesh. A masterpiece. The footage is so amazing. And then 3:52 kicks in. I can't even concentrate on what i'm writing right now. And then the bass rips my heart apart. Witness the man who raves at the wall. Set the controls for the heart of the sun. And then the voice of the devil inside me. Heart. The heart of the sun. I don't think i can miss it right now.
If I'm not mistaken, this is the same footage that was used in the All My Loving program. That looks like the same shirt Waters is wearing, and that's the same building interior you see at the start of the All My Loving clip.
wow i just watched this high as fuck and when i was watching it i was like yeah this is pretty fucked up but at the end when they stopped playing i just realized they were just a room.... fucking journeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Did you notice Dave is wearing Syd's clothes? WTF is with that? Also I read that Gilmour was using Syd's guitar until he reclaimed it on the saucerful sessions sounds like piracy to me and not the good kind...
i hate all the rants about drugs!!! the members only ever said that they smoked canabis an took lsd a few times!!! get over it and enjoy there music or bugger of!!! its so boring reading comments like that!! its just music!! live your lifes!!!
@MrMeddled im not asking you to. You wouldn't understand what I'm saying because of your immaturity anyway...which is so clearly demonstrated by your childish comment. Prick
@MrMeddled In any case...who cares. Why this glorification of drugs. Get a life!!! I abused drugs for 20 years, pretty much all of them. I can tell you, drugs are pretty much a waste of your time, life, health and something to be avoided if you can. I wish I had the wisdom I had now and wasn't such a tool when i was younger.
@WonderHaus Im not preaching anything. All Im saying is you're a stupid retarded child who thinks you have to be stoned to have fun. And you abuse anyone who argues otherwise.
You are a silly little kid...one day you might grow up.
99% of Floyd are neither children or retarded. I might've been minus 4 when this was released but I'm a fan because of the music. Syd Barret was a poet and a talented singer, Octopus is far superior than anything done by the Beatles. And if you have a problem with 60's psychodelia then why listen and comment vie You Tube. If you don't like this or disagree with the culture then don't listen, stick to Showadewaddy and leave us to enjoy.
@69nell What are you on about you simpleton. I am a huge Floyd fan. Why does youtube attract idiots like yourself. People who misquote, completely twist what others say and just attack and abuse.
You are just not very bright at all.
What the fuck do you mean disagree with the culture. YOU ARE A PRICK. The point I made is that taking drugs IS NOT PART OF THIS CULTURE and does not have to be. As a former heavy drug user, I think I am qualified to say this. NOW FUCK OFF CHILD
@69nell And why can't you listen to music, films or whatever and say you like OR DISLIKE something. It's called an opinion. I love Floyd, Im not so keen on the early psychodelic stuff...SO WHAT this is my right. Im not attacking anything.
Awesome clip, RIP Syd and Richard.....Wright was arguably the most valuable member of the floyd, with that Farfisa and echorec sound...A true gentleman and very nice guy, met him once in '77, he was just a regular guy.....Gilmour and Mason also very ordinary but extremely talented.....
Syd wasn't really "fired" he was just kind of pushed away...Rick Wright got fired. Although that was just Roger, the rest of the band didn't agree with it.
@HarryPalma Lol, you have absolutely now idea about today's music. On the radio there won't be songs longer than 5 mins, but the 'real' music of today (examples: Sigur Rós, Gazpacho, Archive, Joanna Newsom, Porcupine Tree and many more) do make those songs and today's music is very experimental IF you listen to more than the cheep commercial sh*t. Pink Floyd is one of the best bands ever, but there is also billiant music these days.
Btw, the Ummagumma live-version is even better than this one.
Most of the bands do perform songs longer than 5 mins these days. If you get your musical education by listening to commercial radio or MTV then you can only blame yourself by explicitly narrowing your musical world to consist of 1-3% of material that is being produced worldwide.
In certain other shots, Gilmour had this Mick Jagger look going...but looks far better. I bet Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler can french-kiss one another into oblivion, their mouths are so huge.
Does anyone know if this is a live performance or the studio track? The vocals definitely sound "live" to my ears, but I could be dead wrong. Enlightenment or confirmation, please. Peace, Mackey
as a music collector there are a few groups you need to have every single thing they have ever recorded : pink floyd is one.....steely dan is another......savoy brown is another
dunno which guy you were referring to, they all had rather flowery tops :) I didn't see Syd Barrett in this video though. However, set the controls for the heart of the sun is supposed to be one of the only songs with all five band members. I guess Syds mental health were to poor at this stage to appear at a performances like this..
wow I'm guessing Syd was the guy who got the whole band together but I could be wrong but I'm sure Syd got the whole thing together back when Arnold Layne came out it was only Syd doing that

@MrMeddled NOT WRONG. Syd was a diagnosed schizophrenic but messing with Acid almost certainly messed him up completely. Fact.
