Church burnings are fucked up. I'm a metalhead and I get "hail Satan" as an expression of individuality (and partying), and I have 100% Norwegian blood so I also get the Asatru stuff (Odin, Thor). You can find some forms of the golden rule back in the code of Hammurabi of the Babylonians. But it's modern use is better defined in the Egyptian "That which you hate to be done to you, do not do to another." You can find more incarnations of the golden rule in ancient Greece and China.

But I think that historically black metal about satanism and anything else that's seen as "unholy" was just a rebellion against the scandinavian heavy christian social construct. Actually today I'd say most lyrics within related genre's are angled toward injustice, greed, and current world issues.

Lol, christianity is filled with what was originally pagan symbolism. Even the fish modern christians use to symbolize Jesus was used as a neo pagan symbol for the women's womb and sexuallity. I grew up in Olympia. it rained almost every day, and I rarely ever saw the sun. The human race has greatly benefited from the fact that so many have access to a personal computer and the medium of the internet. That's one thing you have to give capitalism; to those which it favors, it's vastly more efficient than a system of, or resembling, central planning, or with restrictions on capital. I think that's what he was getting at. But I agree, capitalism how it is cannot continue.

But I think that historically black metal about satanism and anything else that's seen as "unholy" was just a rebellion against the scandinavian heavy christian social construct. Actually today I'd say most lyrics within related genre's are angled toward injustice, greed, and current world issues.

Btw, I've stayed in that cabin for a couple of days. :) A friend of mine is a relative of him, so we got to borrow that cabin for a weekend. Deep in a huge forest, recognized many places from Emperor promo pics, etc. It was so awesome. ^^
