Yeah that looked like some kind of uncontrollable circumstance...like a bump or bike malfunction. The guy is obviously an experienced rider to be able to pull something like that in the first place so it's not likely he made some rookie mistake.

Anyone with half a brain can see that this was not operator error, something snapped and the front wheel locked dead. It locked so hard that the front wheel came off the ground!

I would guess a piece of shit brake pad came off its backing and jammed between the rotor and caliper. BAD BAD BAD, this is why you don't skimp on brakes!

he definately hit something, there's no way you can just make the front tire instantly stop moving like that, inertia prevents that from happening. still, he should have scanned ahead and aborted the maneuver when he had the chance. a second try at video taping is better than buying new bike parts/new bike.

It's totally his fault. As he was trying to hold on, he accidentally squeezed brake lever too much. The popping sound is just the suspension springing out to it's limit when it became uncompressed.
