  • Have you tried using lookup arrays instead of using maths function calls for the trig function in the particle engine?

  • Yeah, once upon a time. I had to actually open up our source and look at it. I thought that we still were, but I guess not. The DC trig calls actually resolve to lookup tables, but you're right, it's actually doing trig on the PC... I will have to get around to fixing that when I'm feeling less lazy.

  • Perl is for powerful text manipulation, Lua is for fast, lightweight in-game scripting.

  • the editor's written in BlitzPlus, it let's you write program like editor much easier but you can't use it opengl like with C++

  • You get more freedom when writing your own engine. Not to mention the time and effort it takes to learn and get to know a new engine someone else have done, and if you have the competence you might prefer to make your own engine.

  • you can use a pre-computed sign/ cos arrays too speed up the particle code. if you need more speed. but all that stuff looks good.

  • We don't have a game. We have an engine. You can't judge a product based on an engine that is barely a fraction of a percent complete. The fact that you're even attempting to judge it as if it were a game could be taken as a compliment.

  • I'm not exactly sure how you could judge how 'exciting' a game looks when it's so early in development that it literally doesn't even have a name.

    Perhaps you should wait for an official demo before making such an assumption. =P

  • My editor is written in an earlier version (unfortunately, that does mean more shitty in this case -.-) of Blitz. It's a good language to start with, I will confess, but I STRONGLY recommend you move onto a lower level language once you get abit better, as I am CONSTANTLY having to battle all the shitty limitations of Blitz. I began this project in Blitz thinking it would be an easy quick project. As time went on, the crappy limitations almost made me restart the whole editor in MVC++
