  • All the things you recommend for protein are defintely not bad, but not the best. They arent all high in protein and they really show the major flaw with eating, a non meat diet.

Take the comparisons - all 100g

Chicken breast has 31g of protein

    Beef has 25g of protein

    Quinao has 4g of protein

    Rice has 3g of protein

The only good thing you recommend was almond. It has 21g of protein!

Hemp seed isnt bad. It has 11g of protein.

  • When people ask me this I ask them if they even know how many grams of protein they need. Most don't know. I say that all plants have some protein and the ones that have the most are dried beans, sprouts, quinoa, tempeh, nuts and seeds. I use the opportunity to teach.

It's fun to point out that people can live on plant food only but not on meat only.

I love your suggestion of referring them to The China Study...I'm going to do that. Thanks for all you do.

  • Where do meat eaters get their carbohydrates?

  • @DoomedSpaceMarine123 they get empty carbs from the bleached white buns they stick their grease patties in.

  • Kevin, this video is great but, I just want to suggest 1 thing to you- it may be a good idea to allow a lot of those seeds to germinate to the point of sprouting to get the best nutritional value possible- I know that you know sprouts are absolutely amazing for you, so why not do it with all of our seeds? Anyway, great video, I love your information and your ability to present it so well, and, one more thing, I'm Kevin too!!

  • Happy Birthday Mark!

  • People in this country will never be protein deficient, you would have to live in a 3rd world country. Leafy greens doesn't only contain a astronomical source of protein but its filled with tons of chlorophyll which allows sufficient oxygen to your blood cells. To all the ignorant ass comments below, get educated and stop being stuck on the potency of stupidity. Peace

  • Thanks! I'm only 7 weeks into my raw foods/vegan thing and already sick of the question about protein. People seem to really go into a weird fear place and get confused when I tell them what I'm doing. They want to know why I am looking so great but they learn why they seem to think it's WAY too hard or risky for them to try it, themselves... I'd sure like to change that perception.

  • You can create whole proteins by combine foods like dairy and grains. But I don't know if raw foodies eat dairy?!

  • did cave men soak their food before eaten? if not it still isnt natural

  • how long wild rice need soaking for good digestion ?

  • LMFAO you said Megabytes!!! hahahahahahahahahaaaa omg lmao I loved your video, great info, but you said megabytes..... thats too funny Im seriously lmfao right now!

  • Comment removed

  • Do you have to just soak Brown rice and Quinoa to eat it, or sprout it??

  • @hillrunner616

em the quinoa i put them for 6 to 8 hours it says on wikipedia to sprout them, i dont know what you mean if there is any diffretnce between soaking and sprouting.

I put some in the night to eat in the moring and i can tell you i feeled sick and when i ated the sprouted quinao i feeled so much energy,

Sorry for the bad english i dont feel like correcting my grammar.

RAW FOOD''. Lic Rost

  • "soaking them to break down a little bit so they can be digested easier"

That should be a hint to the more aware that grains are not human food by nature. Unless your stomach can digest it raw, uncooked, unsoaked, and you can chew it without any discomfort or bitter taste, it is not human food.

  • AGREED!

  • @ShroedingerWatcher spinach tastes disgusting, is it human food?

  • @screenflicker1

Heheh, yeah it does have a weird taste, probably from mars or something (joke).

But what exactly are humans designed to eat? This still bothers me and no one is completely honest, they just say "Eat this..." "Don't eat that..."

All I can say is fruit but never specify from which species of plant. And then there is all that cultivation, hybrids and it just goes on and on.

  • @ShroedingerWatcher yeah its crazy. First we must understand that we're not 'designed'. (hope you know about evolution) And then we must also understand that it is unclear at what stage exactly humans discovered fire, as soon as he did he started cooking food.

  • @screenflicker1

I've heard about evolution theories, listened and read a little about them (because there are a few versions of them from the look of it). They all suggest there is this slow change in the human species, and then other species. But why all the variety then this change anyway?

I wonder how man got the idea to use fire? And I think it is misleading for them to say "man discovered fire" when there are already natural fires of volcanoes. And man has also been killed by them.

  • @ShroedingerWatcher Evolution is not theory any more, its a fact. Proven many times, many ways. By man discovering fire I meant, man knowing how to ignite one and use it for his own benefit such as scaring other animals away, using for light and cooking

  • @screenflicker1 How is evolution proven? Man just looks at something new, creates a theory (or theories) then assumes it does something then it goes into discussion, debates and on and on. Just like science in general.

Is it any wonder that conscience is partly "science" as a word? Like Con-science, con man?

And "scientist" used to mean philosopher or philosophy way back then. And philosphers were before just more theorists of some sort.

  • @ShroedingerWatcher If you want to live your life like a dumb idiot (which you are sounding like right now), ignore hundreds of times proven science. Look up richard dawkins and dig deep. Evolution is a proven fact and please don't discuss this further with me

  • @screenflicker1 No need to get all insulting.

  • @ShroedingerWatcher True, I'm sorry.

  • @ShroedingerWatcher I've never liked the old suggestion that man came from apes with those pictures of apes to human metamorphasis.

  • @ShroedingerWatcher Reality doesn't care about what you like what you don't. For example, if you don't like red color does'nt mean red color doesn't exist. Secondly, you don't understand how evolution works. We didn't come from monkeys, we came from an ancestor that us and the apes shared. We branched. Look it up and face it. Look up Richard dawkins. If you want i can send you a good link

  • @screenflicker1 Apology accepted.

I'll look up Dawkins (I was going to do that before but was too busy on another angle. Will get back to it).

On the monkeys thing, I never suggested we came from any of the apes species, all I know is that I am alive and everyone is restricted by their senses.

At least you didn't call me a creationist as I am also not religious (though that labelling is also flawed).

  • Quick quinoa question. I bought some organic bulk quinoa last month for the first time and boiled it, and completely loved it. However, it made me violently ill all night. I've heard that some people may have allergies to quinoa's outer coating. Is there a raw way to prepare it so that I don't have to miss out?

  • @indieuke you forgot to thoroughly wash it, work it it water several times before you boil it

  • Please tell me you are not feeding your cat vegan food , that is cruel and very unhealthy for a cat . Other than that good video .

  • They do not feed their cat a vegan diet. If you watch some of the other shows, you will see that they purchase raw ground meats and eggs etc. to feed Johnny 5 :) He eats a carnivorous diet

  • Good I am glad to hear it . I have heard people say theye make their pets eat vegan too and it bugs me . There are even vegan cat foods out there from what I hear .

  • why would someone who doesn't want to cause suffering to animals kill animals to feed their pets? Why would a vegan cat food be unhealthy? All animals need amino acids to build the protiens for their bodies. Amino acids are in all plants. Again eating a variety of foods is what is best. My dog did better eating just veggies than he did eating meat. More energy healthier tail even wagged more, and he loved it! You should have seen him beg for steamed squash without butter, he loved it! Peace!

  • Ami Vegan Cat Food, Evolution Diet vegan cat food, Ami vegan cat food (via Vegan Essentials), Cats love table food too so give em some of what you are eating! Just google "vegan cat food" in the shopping category for more ideals!

Remember a mind is like a parachute it only works when it's open!

    Peace!

  • Hate to butt in here but I can't help but ponder on all sides of this:

    1. Cats are natural hunters so they are designed to consume certain animals.

    2. But some of us know how bad the secrets are behind pet foods, both the cruelty and damages it can cause to cats, dogs and domesticated animals in general (esp farmed animals).

    3. I once heard or read up a few vegan pet foods and something on dry varieties. But am still not sure...

  • 3. I once heard or read up a few vegan pet foods and something on dry varieties. But am still not sure.

    4. If I had a cat I wouldn't buy pet food for it, I would let him/her hunt.

    5. But cats are known to throw up some animals they eat, this says they aren't eating the right animals but their instinct is to hunt. They just don't know the real world they are in. In effect, domestic animals are in the same dietary trouble we are but in their biological version of it...

  • 6. And what if it is a kitten? Then I just don't know, perhaps look for a mother cat? One could:

Buy the usual pet foods and risk health misery for the animal.

Switch to a vegan brand and hope they do better off than the others out there.

One could use a butchers and feed them a raw meat diet minus the poisons of petfoods but still the cruelty.

Its a cruel world isn't it.

  • Dogs are omnivorous; they can survive on a diet of only plant matter. Cats, on the other hand, are unable to synthesize taurine, an essential compound produced by most mammals and not found in plants.

Symptoms of taurine deficiency in cats include blindness, hair and tooth loss, and inflammation of the heart.

Fortunately, all you have to do is look for "Approved by the AAFCO" on your cat food to make sure it contains taurine. Vegan cat foods include synthetic taurine.

  • i think that would kill a cat. they're obligate carnivores to my knowledge.

  • happy b day dude

  • Hi. I am new to raw diet. I would like to know how to sprout Quinoa? Thanks.

  • love Kevin!!!

  • Can sprouted wheat like Kamut cause alot of gas??:o

  • WHEN I heard the learnd nutritionist;

    When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me;

    When I was shown the charts and the diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them;

When I, sitting, heard the nutritionist, where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room,

    How soon, unaccountable, I became tired and sick;

Till rising and gliding out, I wanderd off by myself,

In the mystical cool refrigerator-air, and from time to time,

Lookd up in perfect silence at the jars.

  • happy birtday!

  • Hey...

I'm a raw foodist and I get ALL my protein from leafy green vegetables.

  • How do raw foodies eat beans? I love beans!

  • is it possible? I love beans too!

  • Yeah, I don't know why people always think meat is the only source of protein. Too much is bad for you anyway. Most people can get adequate protein just by eating a variety of foods. It's in EVERYTHING.

Awesome feeding the cat real food. I feed mine raw too. He's lost weight and doesn't have any more health problems.

  • Im a meat Eater I will admit and can never go Vegan or Raw Foodie full Time but I will eat Vegan and Raw food style food too Especially when I have to Cut weight for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Wrestling tournaments it really helps and too I don't feel Sluggish during my fights

  • @clambii Raw meat is at least included right? If you're feeding a carnivorous animal only plants, I call that abuse.

  • @helloguy55 :) then you should call feeding grocery store/cheap pet food to a cat abuse too. i know i do, but most people don't think about that, and you would probably not think twice about seeing a cat owner feed the cat multicoloured kibble - obviously not quality stuff, mostly grain in there, but lots of artificial flavours so it tastes good.

  • :D March 20 is my birthday too!

    Great video!

  • cool facts thanks

  • check out Raw Vegan athlete Tim Van orden, hes got a video

    THE PROTEIN MYTH

  • @ACEBAKER911 stfu

  • I want to eat a hemp cake for dessert LOL.

  • Had no idea you could just soak rice or quinoa vs. boiling it. Not a raw foodie, but I'm open to eating more raw, and it's great to know there's that option.

    Cheers!

  • did he say his name was kevin gianni?

  • Just curious, what's wrong with soy? Is this video simply being sensitive to people with allergies?

  • too much soy isn't good.. allergy or not. and I'm guessing aren't as good as these other things he's showed us here. cheers.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

  • Good energy, I must say! What about children on a raw vegan diet? I am cinfused about this, because I am going to start eating a raw vegan diet, and I am a momma, & I worry that If I give this food to my daughter, of her getting rickets, or something. I know that raw, vegan is the way to go, its just that I heard about a family that had their kids taken away from them because they were getting rickets, and they were on a strict vegan diet. What sources are good for vitamin b 12? thanks sarah

  • this guy looks like a speed addict

  • No he doesn't, he looks healthy happy and full of life!

He gives very good advice as well.

  • If you go vegan, you'll all be as energetic as this man.

  • mark heres to the best year of your life!! happy birthday!!

  • 1. Rice has a to high carb to protien ratio

    2. Nuts have a too high fat to protien ratio

    3. Quinoa is great, but it still has a 35g to 7g carb to protein ratio.

    4. Hemp seeds taste like shit, and you have to eat a LOT of them to get 40g protien, but are otherwise great.

Have you ever tried creating a manly physique with these foods? It doesn't work.

  • you ever thought about being flexible and agile instead of having big muscles that arent even that strong and all that extra weight and all that energy you are wasting

  • what do you have to say about gorillas, im pretty sure they dont eat meat and they are very strong...and btw fat from meat is bad but some fats are good because they are liquid at body temperature like the fat in avocados, body building is just stupid in my opinion, i just wanna be healthy and be good in the sports i love to do, stop checking these videos if all you want is big muscles

  • What is manly to you? 22 inch arms LMAO. I don't know if you realize this, but really built guys are still considered overweight because they are unnaturally larger than normal. Carbs are good for you if you consume the right ones. Anything white (white or honeywheat bread, white rice, white pasta, the list goes on) is going to suck for your health. Whole wheat products are terrific for you, such as whole grain brown rice.

  • Yup. Carbs are good. You can lose weight and fat while eating carbs. You just have to eat the right types of carbs and at the right times. Eat low carb meal when you are not so active and moderate - high carb meal when you are active.

  • FYI, even bodybuilders don't need more than 90 grams of protein. I get 80 grams of protein a day, and I don't even lift seriously. Also, most products with high protein also contain a generous amount of fat. (soybeans, nuts, seeds, milk, meat) Fat from nuts contain healthy fatty acids not like meat or milk fat. That is a common scientific myth that "all fats are created equal."

  • Maybe you are right. I don´t know. I have seen a short seminar on a dvd with a bodybuilder that talked about nutrition. He said that everybody even those that doesn´t care much about muscles should consume at least 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight.

  • @CoAvsPepseat exactly my thoughts!!!!!!!!!!!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

  • Happy birthday ♥

  • happy birthday MARK

  • is that it?

quinoa hemp seed almonds and rice?

  • Happy b- day mark :P

  • Vegans & Veges should get these little grain beautys in their diets right now!.Forget the frozen section in your health food shop, the vege burgers n sausages are not only expensive, theres no real goodness happening in them.Get sprouting your seeds n grains & I promise you when you eat them EVERYDAY your energy will rocket.Have fun n eat fresh,n give the Bod some daily exercise.Feel the force.Blessings!!!!

  • happy birthday :)

  • soy=bad, fruit/veggies/nuts/hemp = good

  • God i hate veggies.

  • Enjoy your ass cancer.

  • Can you eat any nut/seed/legume if you soak it overnight? Do you get rid of the water or eat it with the soaked nut/seed/legume? Thanks!

  • happy birth day mark thanks

  • everything has the "magical protein"

    'nuff said.

(Oh, and when I did consume "high amounts of protein" whether it's animal or plant. My bones were f***ked, and undoing the damage was kind of annoying)

  • Mother's breast milk has ~1g protein per 100 grams. This is more than enough for infants developing new tissue at the fastest rate of life. Active adults need smaller ratios of protein.

  • lol and I'm sure you have tones of lean LMM

  • Thanks...

UNF pull up record holder/avid soccer player, never sick on a frugivore diet,

    Chris

  • I get mine from soy, nuts and beans amongst other foods. I'm vegan.

  • happy birthday mark everyday is ur birthday!

VOTE HEMP alongside medicinal cannabis for health liberty and economy!

  • I want to try a quinoa salad this week.

  • yea i agree, raw foodists should go for more grains etc; its an unnesseccerily restrictive diet IMO. A vegan diet however is great :) some of the best athletes have thrived on one, many bodybuilders have been vegetarian and some of the most enlightened minds of humanity have chose to be vegetarian :) good video! Keep em up

  • why do people make so much big deal if you are a vegan or a meat eater and what is better or not. People are dfferent, some do a hell good on meat and fats whiles other do great on sprouted grains and vegetable protein. It depends on your blood type, food allergies, and mother passed flora.

  • People were originally designed for a vegetarian diet but over the past 6000 years since god created us we have evolved to the ability to digest meat. We have developed that ability for eating pleasure not for nutrition and living. Eating meat live is one thing like every other carnivore does but we eat it dead and misnourish ourselves.

  • A vegetarian diet is great, but eating organic grass fed meat or river caught fish once every week or two boiled or steamed won't be counterproductive to true health.

  • haha since god created us over the past 6000 years??? What happened before? What a selfish man, all of the world for himself and only after 6000 years he got bored and decided to create humans!!! Mother Earth and all the Universe Energy around us I belive in but you have your beliefs and I have mine... :)

I do agree with the blood type way of living... Again, like that great quote states, One mans Food is another mans Poison!

  • no problem atheist :) your choice whether it is wise or not.

  • god isn't real though

  • A vegan diet would probably do us all good, but from what I've seen that's not happening any time soon. If I had to guess why, this would be my explanation. Through our(humans) teen years we usually question the world around us, trying to make sense of it all, developing opinions along the way, eventually(after our college years) we get overwhelmed, and just settle with what we got, not worrying about the things that are wrong with the world around us, only caring about what effects us directly.

  • happy birthday mark, I know its november, but happy birthday mark!

  • happy b-day mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • For my proteins, I choose:

Beef, Pork, Chicken, Turkey, Lamb, Eggs, Fish, and any other animal if its cooked right. I love to put my canines to good use.

And I gaurantee a fat med-rare steak tastes a helluva lot better than a damned hemp seed. Come on people, wake up..humans are designed to eat some flesh.

  • The reasons why I switched my diet (and the reasons why you will change your diet) are because there are too many toxins in the meat and it is too expensive to produce. Right now you are already subsidizing it more than the cost of the bailout every year!

  • Maybe this could be the solution to VEGAN's dilemma-

    Vegan only Meat

    watch?v=mGwduQO8otk

  • OK VEGAN whiz kids.

I was a pre diabetic some three years ago. I was overweight by about 10Kg. I tried all of the usual high carb diets like Low Glycemic Index etc etc. to no avail. I came across Dr, Bernteins web site and decided to give low carbohydrate diet a try. This solved my high blood sugar within months and I lost the unwanted 10KG. within a year. I have been the same weight- 68Kg- for the last two years. I can eat as much animal protein as I want. I don't eat bread, rice or pasta.

  • Humans do not NEED PROTEIN.

All proteins are broken down into aminoacids.

Easier for the body is just to eat those aminoacids from green vegetables.

What people usually do not understand that animal proteins do not go into your body, human body builds it's own proteins from bare aminoacids. So avoid protein, body does not need it!

  • uhmmmmm??? have you ever seen a bodybuilder? uhm, we eat anywhere from 400-700 grams of protein a day, and uhhhh? its doing something seeing to how we are weighing up the upper 200's lower 300's at very low bodyfat. uhmmmm.....moral of the story, our bodies absorb animal protein extremely well.

  • That's why you have to pump huge amounts of animal protein into your body so that at least portion of it will get absorbed. I would be very concerned about your kidneys and bones if you really pump so huge amounts of protein in your body.

By the way, I have some vegan (regular vegans, not raw foodists...) friends who got into body-building, and compared to their non-vegan counterparts, they got as much muscle mass in the same amount of time as non-vegans.

  • They are probably not going for their pro bodybuilding card.

  • That I do not know, but it is highly unlikely that diet is going to be on the way of becoming pro.

  • everything supplements wise is equal on the pro bodybuilding stage.....Genetics are the number one factor as to how someone is better than someone else.....Diet is number 2....Diet is the most important aspect you can do something about in bodybuilding. YOu can bet your ass the guys competing over 250-260's are slamming down at minimum 4 pounds of lean meats a day....probably more like 5 with the top guys. some go 600-700.

  • this is the dumbest comment ever.

look into something called neuroendocrine response.

  • You're not a real vegan till I can see the cartilage of your nose poking out from your skin.

  • happy NOT birthday!

  • could you do an episode on the B.A.R.F. that you were talking about in this video?

  • HaPPy BirTHDaY!!! RoCK ouT MaRK

  • lol nutrition science is like surgery in 1659! Awesome :)

  • happy late birthday and thank you for the info!

  • Happy birthday really cool guy Mark!

  • happy late birthday bro

  • Happy Birthday and Thanks for posting.

  • What's wrong with long hair?

  • can you do a sproating show, like how to sprouat things and for how long and what to do after kind of stuff?

  • happy birthday mark, i don't even know when this video was made..march 20th obviosly, but what year?..doesn't matter i am rambling

    have a good one!...

  • look to the right of the video... it says march 20, 2008 :)

  • hahahahaha omg i am such a red head..thank you

  • you totally rock, dude! i just baught 5kg hemp seeds and they are tasty. they are still in their shells so i search a way to break them up. whats the name of the maja gold agaain= couldnt understand (im from germany).

thanks for providing such good info with such a good charisma. rock on , dude!

  • I've got long hair, and I like cheese whiz. Too bad its so not good for you... lol.

  • i went raw and got way to skinny so now i'm raw but eat tons of fish and protein drinks. i missed my muscles...

  • after you soak wild rice or quinoa do you boil it or just eat it striaght up?

  • Happy Birthday :D

  • you dont nee protein. you need amino acids. aminoacids are in every food untill its cooked.

There are people living decades with 10g protein a day and they performance are great and they are healthy and feel awesome. How is that possible? U dont need protein - ok u needed if u want to get sick. 10g a day is enough.

  • Hmm...the dude above does not look like a sick person. Then again, he's a raw foodist I believe.

  • because it's vegan, it doesn't mean it's healthy, if someone eat a lot of fake meat etc. and vegan junk foods, he will get sick

  • When vegans require to go to a health clinic they probably are doing it wrong.

So you only saw the sick vegans. The healthy vegans did not require your health clinic.

  • a vegan diet is very very unhealthy if your a vegan that eat 50,60,70,80 or even 90% percent deadcooked food. If ur a vegan that eat 90% deadcooked foot its more damaging that the standard american diet. Cooking and processing make the food make vegetables nearly as damaging as meat, milk and eggs. If u eat the S.A.Diet u get higher amounts of nutrions the body can turn into what it needs. Raw cooked food got less nutrions to break down into healty nutrions. Healthy living? Eat raw vegan;)

  • Vegan cooked food^^ Damn that kills the message of my comment.

  • so you can eat rise if u soak it? gr8t

  • Not white rice thought. of course you can soak it but it won't germinate like whole rices. Try some cargo and black rice! =D good stuffs! Thanks KEVIN , Happy Birfday to yo Broskivich too.

  • ok thanks 4 the info man. BTW do u know if u need to soak hemp protein powder before drinking it, i mean its a seed/nut right? =D

  • Vad , can you grow powder? there are no benefits for soaking processed powders imho.

  • no u cant thats true, but the powder is just cold crushed nuts, its the same as if you eat a nut and grind it whit youre teeths, you'll get a powder.

  • What you would do is sprout or germinate the seed, nut, bean or grain 1ST ,then grind it up 2ND just before eating it. You need all the parts of the seed Intact to grow a seed .Right? In powder form the seed is dying or dead. The benefits come from a Living seed, nut, bean ,grain and so on.

  • I love your stuff, man. This is so informative. Good to listen to someone who knows his stuff.

  • Happy B-day all year to yer bro!

  • happy birthday brother!

  • haha awesome
