People, it is not impossible to design a mechanical (rail?) system that ties into the rotational movement of the rod to move the rod up and down. But that would take away some of the energy exerted by the magnets.

This may not be the right path, but it is a good start.

it's not the spinning of the wheel, but what makes it spin. think of it this way: you push the axis 1 inch down, and the rotor spins 1/4 of the circle (about 3 inches).
