Remember how this started: Obama asked a moderate R. from this lean R. district to be secretary of the Army. He accepted. Normal people would put someone similar in that seat, which is what the local GOP tried to do. But then the cons, who definately are NOT normal, decided to pee in the lemonade and run a cadaver for the position instead. Dems laugh all the way to a slightly larger majority. Obama: Roadrunner to the conservatives' Wile E. Coyote.
I personally wouldn't mind it if these hysterical extremists in the GOP today keep doing this kind of stuff, because that will ensure their self-destruction as valid political actors. Dede Scozzafava should be awarded the "Profiles In Courage" award for what she did. She takes me back to the times when people like Dole, Kemp, Ford, and even Reagan populated the ranks of the GOP. Those were true Republicans, not the rabble calling the shots inside the GOP today, who are nothing but buffoons.
This just goes to show you that There is only one party.... The big government party.
Scozzafava is a republican but then she supports a democrat. But the Conservative was closer to her in terms of ideology. This proves that the two party system is failing and that there is no room for a third party candidate. She didn't explain why she didn't endorse Hoffman when she should have.
No one is falling for the okey-doke.
Fuck all the elites in Washington, Term Limits please.
What I learn from her is that her actions are more important than her words. Her actions betrays whatever nonsense it is that she lets out of her mouth.
With this attitude republicans should not be able to win any election in 2010. Nevertheless, they will become the majority in congress because Democrats will hand it over to them, by means of inaction, by an inability to compromise within the Democratic party, and by an inmature attitude of "all-or-nothing" seen in both exremes of the Democratic party. The healthcare bill will die in the senate, same fate awaits financial reform and climate change legislation. Our future is bad, no matter what
Both parties will have gains AND losses in the next election, but the Dems will gain a greater majority.
With the Republicans more factionalised than ever, the Dems' seeming disunity is actually a GOOD thing because it shows our party is thoughtful in giving consideration while debating ideas, as opposed to the lock-step, "all-or-nothing" extreme of the Republicans when they're the majority party.
Health insurance reform will pass, and the public option will be called "Medicare Part E".
Denial won't help, wishful thinking won't help, Senators Lieberman, Nelson, Lincoln, Landrieu, and definately not voting for any bill with a public option, Senators Bayh, Baucus and Conrad also may end up opposing it, and on the other hand if there's no public option then you have Burris and Sanders both have pledged to vote against a bill without a public option. Do the math, it fails either way.
Speaking of all-or-nothing extremes, your complaint of Dem 'inaction' is laughable. Most 'Republicans' will tell you Congress and President Obama are systematically destroying America, smashing capitalism, and even paneling grandma to death! Yet you would have us believe Dems have accomplished nothing in the last 10 months.
Dems have passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, SCHIP re-authorisation, Hate Crimes legislation, and the Credit CARD Act; next is health insurance reform, possibly ENDA!
I agree with you on the accomplishments achieved thus far by the Obama administration, but in politics these small accomplishments are quickly taken for granted and people demand more visible wins. Just look at what some Obama supportes have been saying about him lately, two examples are Ed Schultz and Rachel Maddow, and listen to people everywhere. The perception is that since change has not magically happened overnight people have been let down, pessimism sells and that's the story now.
oldtownkid:"The perception ... change has not ... happened overnight, people have been let down ... pessimism sells that's the story now"
Inspiring pessimism has been the Republican strategy since the election of Barack Obama as POTUS (remember the 'voter's remorse' meme?').
The Republicans ALWAYS try to 'define' the Dems. Who cares? The REAL story is that Republicans are IRRELEVANT to a great extent in these debates. The Dems are playing smart, and we're getting the ball downfield, surely.
...and because of most people not understanding that the pace of those giant changes may be slower than ordering a big mac, if progressives don't get a public option in the bill, regardless of the actual effectiveness of a watered-down public "option", they won't be satisfied, and if those 7 or more conservative leaning Senators don't get a bill without a public option, the bill will fail and the GOP will be able to define the Democrats and the rest is history.
What republicans say about Obama righthis point is irrelevant (it will be relevant if Dems don't pass healthcare and financial reform but for now it is irrelevant), when I talk about inaction I'm refering to how willing are some in the Democratic party to let this opportunity to pass meaningful healthcare reform, just because they won't get a public option that is not as effective as it has originally been designed to be. The trigger option is probably the only path to healthcare reform now.
I love this woman lol. Fuck you all conservative nuts ;), the only republican that you can see today is bunch of white hood conservative retarded motherfuckers.

This lady sounds very level headed. No wonder they attacked her. Republicans are turning into hard core ideologs. They don't care about the needs of their districts, just the party line and ideology. They treat politics like religion.
It is a religious agenda that the conservatives have been promoting and using the GOP to spread their ideology for the past 30 years or so.
I don't know if you remember Anita Bryant, but that seems to be the beginning; the rise of Ralph Reed, Timothy LaFaye, Jerry Falwell and the rest of that faction were slowly bringing us toward being a theocracy in America.
I understand why some people are calling the irrational right "ideologues". however, to an an "ideologue", one has to have an idea to start with, and what's clear about this is that the teabaggers, deathers, birthers, etc., is that they start with fear, racism, conspiracy theories and general anti-social negativity. no "ideas" involved.
KataVideo you hit the nail right on the head! The GOP/Conservatives/Tea Baggers are a bunch of intellectually bankrupt folks who only have religion & fear as a message. Im arguing a point here to its logical conclusion. Its not a point of view I hold personally, but I'm interested in learning from AMericans how they think about all of this.
It's fortuitous that the word "disingenuous" appears in the title. In the Lieberman case, the matter is complicated by regionalism. Conservative Democrats are tolerated by the progressive wing in areas in which the alternative would be a Republican (e.g., the south, parts of the midwest); but not in turf considered safely progressive. There was also Lieberman's vocal embrace of Bush's policies led to the estrangement. As an observer of US politics, you should know these dynamics.
so then republicans should tolerate Soczzafava in new york but shouldn't support someone like her in Alabama ? doesn't sound very ethical to me. Lieberman supported bush policies and Scozzafava supported Obamas, sound identical to me. But correct me if I am wrong but isn't Owens who won a blue dog ? so that area couldn't be as progressive as common wisdom assumes. What I see is hypocrisy but I am willing to hear arguments to prove otherwise.
hypocrisy or pragmatism. Dems went through purity purges in the 70's and 80's. Republicans are doing it now. It will likely leave them with a strong united core but only a minority.
