They are completely different and it is impossible to view their world through western ideologies. The US thinks they rule the world but it is a changing ball game. First of all Shohreh Aghdashloo Moved away from Iran before the revolution of 1979 . I am not sure if she visited Iran again after or lived there.She probably is saying she does not know because she is afraid of them attaching her mother in Iran or doing something to her mother.
