@jakesdoc Thanks!! I'm glad you liked the vid. As for the focus without shaking....first and foremost, I'm using quite a wide lens, so I don't zoom as much as I just walk closer to the subject...which minimizes the shake. Less zoom = less shake for me anyway. Also, when I'm racking focus I pay more attention to the speed of the rack focus as appose to the shake. This way I have a smooth rack and I can fix some of the shake in post. I use motion with FCP.
@jakesdoc REALLY!! That's awesome!! I'm glad you think this video is worthy. Its amazing the control you have with the 7D...I was pleasantly surprised.
@jakesdoc Your right!! And you have to have that frame of mind before even pushing the record button. Have you seen anything else on youtube worth checking out? something inspiring?
Actually, yes. I am a simple guy, and I like simple videos. But I also like them to "say something". There are not many, but one of my favorites is a short video called "Another Night in Beijing" He does a great job of capturing the mood of the evening and the people there. Watch it. I think you'll enjoy it.
Well, its funny you mentioned that one. That's one of the videos that got me into cinema on a DSLR. I love how he shows regular people just doing there thing. Phillip Bloom really knows how to capture a moment.
@jakesdoc Thanks man!! Keep in touch..I can't see it being to much longer before I add something new. Did you see my "star" video?...I think its a video response to this one.
I did. It was for a band from BC. They seen this video and wanted something done for them. I had to shoot a video for someone thousand of KMs away haha. It was a challenge. Every video on my channel I either shot or was one of a few shooters.
Hey - Hey ... wait a minute! Tell us what lenses (kit or other) and what did you put it all together with; FCP, Vegas? Some of us zoom in for that info right away. Aside from my questions ... nice, you've got some great shots in this short. Carry on ...
Well, I used a Sigma 18-55mm locked at a f2.8. I was shooting 720p at 60fps. I converted the H.264 media to apple prores, then edited the footage in FCP on a 30fps timeline allowing me to get the slow mo look. My shutter speed varied as I was using that to control my exposure. My iso was locked at 100. The Sigma lense holds f2.8 at any focal length, so yeah...I love that lense. Thanks for the post!!!!!

How do you adjust the focus while filming without shaking the camera?

Heck, yeah! Not only is the quality awesome, but I thought you did a great job of capturing the mood. I love it!
Look, if you can make a video that evokes memories or emotion- you KNOW you've done a great job! Isn't that what art is all about?

"I love how he shows regular people just doing their thing." EXACTLY! That's what I loved about his video.
Yours was different, but still did a great job of capturing a mood.
I think you both made fantastic videos.
