@markr1413 The beast is still alive and well however, last I visited this past summer (2010), a park employee said they were unsure of the Son of Beast's future. it was shut down. It's also not even shown on the park map anymore. Ridiculous. Oh well. At least I got to ride it before they removed the Loop!

@jeremyfrancis the son of beast is not dead. they decided to close it for the season pending further investigations on it's safety. but, every time i've gone it has always been closed...and i haven't been there in over 4 years.

@nbtrainlvr94 Actually it was gone with the wind when I posted the comment 8 months ago. They announced it on the local news in Cincinnati. As of now the ride is still standing but the chances of a re-opening it is slim

@TeamApparition Nope, it's decided. SoB is undergoing a $7M~ layout and track reworking. The ride will only be the same up to the top of the lfit hill. Everything after the lift hill (including the first drop) will be torn down and completely redone, this time using higher quality Intamin track, instead of the cheap, prefab Intamin track it used before. The ride will be much smoother, and the new layout will completely eliminate previous problem areas. The coaster is due to reopen summer 2012.

@LegoThemeparkCrazy No, but Intamin was originally supposed to build it.

You see, the designer, Werner Stengle, desinged the thing with brakes and additional supports at certain parts in the ride. KI said that such complications would make the ride a hassle to build. Intamin said that if they did not go with Stengle's plans, they would not build it. KI decided to have their own crew put it up. Over the years, the numerous problems they've had with it were in the exact spots Stengle mentioned.

i'm pretty sure they just majorly treat the wood because I live in the nw, and almost all the major coasters are wood and we get the most rain in the country here. rains 9 of 12 months. honestly it's annoying
