  • Mike Johnston, your hilarious man, like your vids, because your a dam good player, and your a modest buy. Perfect blend for teaching man..

  • Screw the warmup, I"m using that paradiddle pattern as a tasty lick!

  • Dude..I like to play the drums so I'm reading to lift weights, get the blood going for that....but I hear ya, warming up is important!

  • Ah, man this is the best and funniest thing ever! Love you, Mike! What a cool guy.

  • Another great and easy and short warm-up is involving all paradiddles, but in a different way:

Paradiddle x4, double paradiddle x 4 triple paradiddle x 4 and then just count down so 4, 3, 2, 1. Its short, easy and works very well. :D Try that out too guys

  • I am DEFINATELY using this from now on

  • reminds me almost exactly of "wipeout"

  • wat would be the sticking for that ?

  • @BateristadeTucson17 rlrr lrll rlrlrlrr lrlrll rlrlrr lrll

  • youre the best man! 100%

  • I want to build a house in your snare drum and live there forever.

  • excellent videos! explained well, right to the point and not boring! best drum instruction ive seen on youtube!

  • Thats one BADASS shirt

  • thats a solid doode

  • he's so humble! love 'im!

  • i love you mike man i think he gotta be one of the best drummers, not just how he plays, but also his attuide to teach man just makes me wanna be there

  • how do i have people to find mi vids cuz im new

  • Mike!!!! Your the man, I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for all your help. Keep on keepin on!

  • fuck how much faster can he go?

  • damn u're great

  • hey friend, can you separate each part? I find it a bit difficult to do it with the double stroke

  • @z0qii -

    RlrrLrll RlRlRlrr LrLrllRlRlrr Lrll

the spaces are to show the groupings. of course these would be played as 32nd notes in 1 measure of 4/4. or 16th notes in 2 measures of 4/4...

  • @z0qii why dont you try very slow putting accents

RlRlrr -- LrLrll --- Rlrr --- then viceversa start with left LrLrll -- RlRlrr -- Lrll

that way you practice in a balanced mode also the accents sounds dancier

    >> . >> . > .

  • I like teachers that really emphasize doing your own thing. My last teacher (Grade 9) was like that. And I think it will really help going into highschool. I think Poeple like you and Cobus are really good online instructors.

  • @IHasRhythMIW Cobus isn't an instructor... he just plays. -_-

  • @Galeontanilla Technically he is a teacher. He has drum DVD's out... For teaching... So yea. He plays in his videos though.

  • @IHasRhythMIW He only has one DVD out, and only a portion of it is for teaching. The rest of it is his background stories and how he rose to fame. I wouldn't call him a teacher because he doesn't do it regularly.

  • Yo man, huge fan of your lessons on youtube. Just cant afford them on your site at the moment. Bit of a beginner kind of question but how long a day should i practice rudiments to get to your speed cause thats insane but awesome :D

  • @SgtMapex69 .... I can`t speak for Mike but I am sure he would say something along these lines .... The most important thing about practice is to do it everyday . Even if it is just 15 minutes per day it is infinitely better than 60 minutes once a week . Also , do not go any faster than you CAN . In other words if you are tight , then slow down . If it sounds choked or sloppy , slow down . This is not a race to get fast or to play faster than your friends . Practice is about control .

  • @sweetfly66 Great advice thank you

  • @sweetfly66 another thing he mentioned at a clinic was when practicing, just stay at a constant tempo, dont try to go slow and just get fast without stopping. just practice at a constant tempo and then when you feel confident, stop take a breath and try it a little faster.

  • @MrEliteWord .... yeah , what you ( and mike ) mean , is to use a metronome ..... also , when increasing your speed , it is best to increase in small incriments . Don`t jump from 110 to 120 ... instead go 110 , 113 , 116 , 118 , 120 ..

  • @sweetfly66 on top of that, speed develops from muscle memory, by practicing slow you will grow to be able to play fast, if you practice fast you will NOT grow to be able to play slow

  • my first drum teacher used to that all the time, looked right in my face first lesson for about a 5 minutes doing a pretty horrendous beat - I changed teacher's after about 3 lessons :P

  • Thats a Steve Gadd and Barker (easy target) lick.

  • bam bam bambambam bambam bambam bam!!! nice!!!!!

  • i really like this as a fill. Thanks bro
