As a fighter, he is rather unique, in that he has no particular speciality - he is equally at home using hands or feet, and quite often surprises his opponents with very dynamic combinations of some of the more unusual hand or foot techniques. As a senior member of the KUGB International Squad he led the KUGB team to victory over Japan in the 1990 JKA World Shotokan Championships in.

YES It's true, there are only a few scientifically sound methods to safely stretch your muscles & tendons. Mr Brennan is NOT trying to strefch into 'new' acheivements of elongation, but activateing his already ESTABLISHED safe stretched (& joint mobility) standard. You need blood supply & warmth for this activation = bounce
@PETEtheTRAINER he is bouncing because he does an dynamic stretching ...the static stretching is greater than the dynamic one ...but greater than the static one is to combine static with dynamic...you will like to endure the pain ...and if you don't like the pain after an stretching exercise that is executed slowly your body will feel rested ....and far better than before ...is like you have an different body ...
You should not bounce in your stretches. Not ever. Bouncing (balistic stretching) tears far too many muscle fibers and causes joint problems. Don't do it. Science shows that it's not good for your muscles and it is highly likely to have more negative effects then positive. Look it up. There are safer and more modern methods of stretching.
Naturally, I do not mean any offense to Sensei Brennan. This is not a comment upon his skills as a martial artist but only on his stretching methods.
@brinnonvallere - Agreed. PNF stretching, relaxed stretching, and full ROM of motion strength exercises will get you into the splits faster then you can say "Yay!" :)
the bouncing movements are highly recommended! since its a warmup they help alot. however if it was an end of training, then you would be still during stretches..
There is nothing wrong in bouncing or rocking as long as the movement is gentle and controlled, as in this case.
After all, you are preparing the body and mind for explosive and dynamic movement. I very often combine the dynamic with static warm-ups.

None of these stretches are "bad". They all will help you. It may be that you would do more of one or the other as you sit fit.
