Yes, the H16 is designed for double-trapeze... but you need enough wind to get both crew out on the wires. In this video, Rique and I weigh 185 and 135 lbs respectively. I'm 6'2" and Rique is 5'6" in height. Together, he and I were too heavy to be competitive on the world racing scene; althought, in some heavy-air regattas we arrived to the windward mark near the top every race, but suffered on the leeward legs. The ideal combined crew for the H16 would be 270 to 300 lbs. The H16 is a blast!

great video guys, first time i see some thats really at it. Can you tell me how did you install the camera, im in the process to put one but havent figure out how to.If you got pictures would be great. by the way I sail in Peru, the place is PARACAS 300 KM SOUTH great place to sail, windsurf or kite.

Hello @carlosdv4... thanks for the positive comments! Sorry I don't have photos of my camera mount, but I'll try to describe the mount here: We took an old broken fibergalss hiking stick and fastened one end to the mast base, and nestled the stick where the forestay and the bridals meet and lashed the stick with "stretchy" electric tape to get a firm attachement. Then, the camera came with a mount that we attached to the stick. Sail fast, have fun, and be creative!

Hey Modern, I like the vid! Got a question...Is the rig tuned correctly for this type of breeze? After watching the video the second time I noticed the mast, shrouds and headstay moving everywhere. Is that normal on one of these crafts? Good luck at the regattas! FH

Hello FH! The H16 rig is suppose to bounce around like this, but in fact our tune and sailing style has evolved from this vid... to a faster setting! To win regattas in an H16 you first need a crew weight of 270 to 290 lbs (or less)! Then (while rigging on the beach) set your shrouds in the middle chainplate setting, and hoist your jib halyard to the point where your sheets set as follows: mainsheet two-blocked and jibsheet just two-blocked to the point where it can barely be pulled in more.

Hello kouchie! Thanks for the positive comment. You could check with Beach Cats here in San Juan... they may have a Hobie you could rent for a few days. Otherwise, the Ritz Carleton Hotel in Pine Grove (where this video was partially shot) rents some low-performance Hobies by the hour. Best of luck!

Hey you are right next door! We are in St Thomas and love our H16! Great vid makes my heart beat faster just watching. This really is the only way to live. I all of my daughters from6-12 get out on the wire in heavy conditons. Just awesome!

Hey extremedude71... we mounted the camera on the end of an old broken H16 tiller-extension; so you're correct, "the thing" isn't a spin chute. Actually, I had to add two nylon-shrouds to the end of the stick and torque it down a bit to keep the stick from bouncing during filming. Thanks, and sail on!

brings back memories from an ex-Mrs. Hobie Alter.....from Hawaii with aloha, sailed the Nationals, Worlds, Havasu, Tahiti, Gulf, Hobie 33 Hull,da spinnaker girl, always had to add weight to the cat.
