  • whats the redline RPM on a rotary engine supersport bike like that?

  • 13b renesis motor. mmmm. 245 hp on bike. mmmmmmmm

  • who cares about torque i am not going to be towing a boat!

  • Like F1 passing by :-)

  • what is a rotary norton?

  • @roaringwaterbay Norton is a Bike manufacurer and Rotary is the kind of engine it uses. Look up Wankle Rotary

  • @Maximusfool i've never heard of a motorcycle with a rotary engine . . . so this bike has a rotary engine similar to what Mazda was/is putting in some of their cars? interesting.

  • @roaringwaterbay Yeah pretty much. Norton started using rotary engines in the'80's. They don't use them in all the bikes mind you. Check out Norton Motorcycles on Wiki

  • @Maximusfool are there any other bike companies out there using rotary engines?

  • @roaringwaterbay Yeah one or two, but none as in like Norton have used it

  • Oooooooooh that sound gives me goosebumps all over.

  • Love the sound of a rotary! I wish them luck!

  • The sound of that Norton reminds me of a group c car on the Mulsanne straight. ★★★★★

  • Sounds like Satan scratching his nails on God's blackboard!!!! Fuckin' awesome. We can only hope that the Norton revival is succesful, and a rotary superbike finds its way back into production.

  • yes please

  • I've seen it stripped down at the IOM last june, It is a brilliant piece of engineering. Lightweight and tiny engine... and crazy loud

  • is that a 588cc engine competing with a 999cc engine:p?

  • Wankel is far more powerful than a normal engine. If you take a look at Mazda RX-8, it has a 1.3 liter Wankel and it has 244 horsepower. Yes, 244.

  • @OldtimerMercedesBenz horsepower is a function of engine speed and torque. It has really low torque but because it can spin faster it has a higher power output.

  • only if you comparing apples and oranges. If you want compare it with 4-stroke, you must double this rating so 1176cc. Unfortunately, wankel engines have higher specific fuel consumption but also higher specific air consumption, so for given power/torque needs more fuel and air, about 10-15% more... Fortunately, they are cheap, simple, RELIABLE and DURABLE in racing conditions...

  • @999miki

Right, they aren't the best for street use. But relative to Race engines (which are extremely high maintenance) they aren't unreliable at all!

  • It is silenced heavily compared to the days when Steve Hislop and Robert Dunlop rode them. Now they sounded like a jet fighter/F1 car... really awesome! I was a bit disappointed when I heard it. Still good they made the effort though. Lee Dickinson and his brother Joe are riding them in Thundersport GB at Donington this weekend which are support races for the MotoGP. It might sound quiet compared to a Ducati Desmosedici?

  • Good video , this Noton sounds awesome.

The first bike is a R1 of a marshall.

  • sounds fit as a butchers dog. too bad it didn't run, but they should have been shaking it down at the North West 200. It was very disappointing (and embarressing) that they didn't get a run out. The fact that Michael did 125mph on a 600cc would've made it look bad in any case...

  • very lucky to catch it on the island, it came through past us totaly unannounced as the radio TT guys were waffling on about the podium for the TTXGP (if i recall correctly, the week was a bit of a beer fest and a blur) all of a sudden we heard it and looked around and it was right behind the TM we didnt have a chance to get a shot of it at all

    thankyou for posting it up

  • Wow, that Norton sounds great. Lucky to catch it on video
