i got my berner-senne at 6 weeks, too. but the veterianian told me it is better to wait 8 weeks.

first you choose a puppie after that it gets a color sign. than you wait untill the puppies getting 8 weeks old. this is very important for the puppie to stay 8 weeks at the dogs family. after 8 weeks you get your favorite dog knowing by the sign on the back

we got our golden at 6 weeks 6 days (almost 7 weeks) and she's just fine. She's 4 years old. It doesn't have to be 8 weeks exactly. anytime from 6 and 1/2 weeks to 8 weeks is fine.
