Mortars are awesome. Using them you feel like a general because you can change the flow of a game breaking choke points, throwing smoke and basically causing chaos to the enemy team. I love smashing an enemy strong point and then watching my team flow past it two seconds later.
There's a really simple solution to this: make sure the mortar can't be deployed beyond the reach of other mortars. Mortar the shit out of a mortarman enough with your own mortar and they won't be physically able to mortar you anymore.
Pro Tip: Never lob more than a handful of shells from the same place, either. Stay on-the-move and they won't be able to pin-point you.
Or you could just get the fuck inside a building and quit your pissing and moaning altogether. In fact, I like that idea more.

Mortars automatically show up when they fire a shell there for if you walk up close enough to them you can just drop a mortar on top of their head getting yourself an easy kill since they're not moving around.

i don't know about you guys, but i would get bored as hell killing enemies using just the mortar, and sitting in one place doing the same thing for half an hour, and besides being a waste of time, you need relatively no skill to use it. i would personally feel guilty racking up all those kills from doing nothin lol.
@Syo1 Im very rarely counter mortared personally, since if you have the map up, you can see the other team laying a mortar for fraction of a second, shows up as the grey unmanned look.
In all fairness the reason the support class get the mortar is because they are just that, support. snipers would never get this mainly because snipers, when working in a team, will not ''camp'', you stay at the rear and give accurate fire support and move up with your squad. the support class is more designed for suppressing and pinning so a mortar does make scene.

From cod to bf3 everyone is always bitchin about every little thats fun in the game. If u dont like mortars dont use it , if u dont like rpgs or grenade launchers dont use it , u have the same options of using it though, if u cant use them them shut the fuk up, there not for u then.
I think its fine, but if they want to use it, the change should make it only usable in playable areas for both teams. So if you want to be a mortar, you might need to have protection and so forth.
This is a great balance feature, but I miss the Commander Class that only had access to the radar and artillery strikes. If your going to give a class this kind of perk at least have someone like the infantry,sniper only mark enemies on the tactical map so it's not overpowered. And if this was on hardcore would enemies appear at randomly on the map?

Fk. There's really no defending this. I admit that I would love this style of play. Hell, I would love ANY style of play in BF3, but this is just so cheesy funny. But compared to, let's say, Enemy Territory where you only had the standard mortar reticle to aim with, here you just have to move your mouse over a fking map and click a button. Yesterday, I had a run-in with the mortards on this map. I think half of the other team used them. Obviously we won, but they sure did a nice fireworks display.
Yeah the mortar basically lets you kill with no risk at all, and if you just hang all the way back at the starting base, you aren't in ANY risk at all!
It's range of 240M is quite far. And to find players with mortar and is using them actively is rarer on some maps.

This is a great balance feature, but I miss the Commander Class that only had access to the radar and artillery strikes. If your going to give a class this kind of perk at least have someone like the infantry,sniper only mark enemies on the tactical map so it's not overpowered. And if this was on hardcore would enemies appear at randomly on the map?

@ustak13 it would be better if you where not able to deploy the mortar in your spawn area (restricted area for the opposite team) that will solve the problem in my opinion, or atleast in small maps where you can launch the mortar shells from one ide to the other

@ustak13 it's not even bad mortors are easy to deal with. Snipers and other mortors can and if your going to camp a flash supressor or scilencer will always keep you safe. Common sense now stop complaining about what will never be "fixed".

@othurgoodo Counter mortar everything has a weakness... if mortar man gets hit by his own medicine 1-3 times hes gonna stop or significantly reduce his bombardment. Think they are gonna nerf a mortar on the real battlefield? That's the point to the game being called BATTLEFIELD

Fk. There's really no defending this. I admit that I would love this style of play. Hell, I would love ANY style of play in BF3, but this is just so cheesy funny. But compared to, let's say, Enemy Territory where you only had the standard mortar reticle to aim with, here you just have to move your mouse over a fking map and click a button. As much fun as it looks to me, it just takes no skills. There's no defending it.
But at least he's contributing to the team.

I think the only time I use mortar is to kill people using the mortar. I cannot stand it when people use it for spawn points or M-coms.

Yeah the mortar basically lets you kill with no risk at all, and if you just hang all the way back at the starting base, you aren't in ANY risk at all!
It's range of 240M is quite far. And to find players with mortar and is using them actively is rarer on some maps.

simple answer to this shitty problem, put an ammo limit?! btw it was extremely stupid by dice to put this in the game, i mean unlimited ammo? Really... Very "realistic"... and a mini map to see all your enemies and being able to sit deep in the spawn so you cant be touched? its the most retarded thing ever! i play both cod and battlefield, so why dont they follow cods example and not let the ammo box replenish mortars? like how scavenger doesnt let you replenish grenades. simple!

@54rocx24 Mortars are an easy target. Just counter mortar and leave your own mortar to avoid counter mortar. They appear on your map. If you're not doing anything against it, it's your own fault :)
