Great song, but as someone who was just old enough to be part of the hippy scene I can attest to the fact that most "hippies" were self-indulgent, rich white kids having a good time.
Now they're running the show and things are more fucked up than ever!!! :(
Love this so much, My mother and nan went to see it in London in the ( not sure) 60s/70s, all the cast were dancing in the all together, much to their delight, I remember my mother coming home and playing this none stop for weeks!
hair we had it here in rotterdam last week, nice its a time related story of the usa in the 1967 time and thats al, then they faced going to vietnam, we have our time now and troubles enough, its past no more people who demonstrate egainst things, no more just materialism for everybody and their own .it was a busy time back then.
The young people should understand, because both case (then and now) people died with no a good reason. The leader of america guide based on theirs dirty pockets
What is WE should start a group? You start and, if you believe, others will follow. Hippies did not give themselves a name. Jesus had no name for His followers. Peace is not a club, merely a desire for mankind. Take a stand and let it show!
@pinkydogbear I know what u mean. Did u see the film of Platoon? I havent seen this movie yet. But im hoping when i rent the dvd but i love their musics. I also love musical films as well. Well only some of them.
The music is all right, however I have mixed feelings about this. We vets were sent to a war, some survived, came back and were rejected, mistreated and hasseled by the people represented here. So peace and love but intolerance with the GI's. Is that the way to protest the government policies? Wow! I remember a group of such hippies harrassing us in uniform at the Trailways bus depot in Baltimore, yelling us baby killers and all that crap. Man, it wasn't easy.
@billace90 hippies....propaganda is one of the strongest forms of conditioning of the uninformed. and thank you for your sacrifice that allowed me freedom~
@sgtsnafu Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace You may say that I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one Without dreams of peace, there is no hope of peace
Everything starts off as a dream, long before it becomes reality. If war can be a reality, so can peace. One cannot even be defined or known without the other. I think that without the movements of the 1960s, we would have destroyed our world far, far sooner. Perhaps, because of that time, we bought ourselves just a bit more.
qsta song la canteremo al saggio d fine anno.. oddio m viene da piangere!!!!!! l ultimo saggio cn la mia scuolaaaaa.. dopo le superioriiiiiii... amore ke bello .. Dan t amo tantiximo. let the sunshine
Hippies ftw!!! This song is awesome!! I've never actually watched the movie, but I've seen it performed live twice :D The end made me cry both times hahaha
eu ainda era criança quando ouvia essa música e sem saber o real significado já tinha verdadeira admiração.Agora que sou adulta sei o quanto o pessoal daquela época tambem sofreu com o direito de espressar suas emocões.Essa música é universal e eterna.Marlene -curitiba/Pr-Brasil
What a powerful song, I remember hearing it in the 70s when I was just a kid. I wonder how many of those peace loving hippies from that generation have grown up to be the dirty politicians and criminal CEOS that are destroying the world? How could they have forgotten what they were so passionate about back then? What ass holes !
i totally agree with your comment art88 the ones now destroying the world were once those who fought to save it and they should be ashamed by their actions for the few that kept up the fight for the good of the world they should be proud they didnt give in to corruption or power
Art must have forgotten that even at its peak there were only about 15% freaks vs. 85% straights. There's no logical reason to think all the villains you despise were the peace loving hippies of the 60's. A few maybe, but most of the ones you're talking about were taking Honors Finance courses while the rest of us were out in the streets.
@viktorthereptile I couldn't agree with you more. What is it all about at the end of the day, but love. We should start a hippy group for the second decade of 2000s. It could lift the energy of this place, to a heightened level, or am i just dreaming again?

I saw the musical in London in september last year (2010)and i was moved to tears.
I cannot believe i had never heard any of the music before or realized the potency of it's anti war message and it's plea for a tolerant world.
God bless Ragni and Rado.
