  • who else thought that your cellphone is nearby

  • dude whats the name of that music?

  • I have found out that my battery has so called become "swollen" there for becoming pressed against the backside of my trackpad. Do you have any ideas on what I can do at this point?

  • @Sugarmagnolia330 - If the battery is swelling, stop use immediately and replace the battery.

  • now that you have removed that top case can you replace the trackpad that way?

  • @Sugarmagnolia330 - On this model, the trackpad is replaced with the top case, not separately.

  • i would definitely add that the track pad/power button ribbon is attached in a VERY SPECIFIC place on the logic board, which is not show here and may cause confusion when putting the computer back together. It actually clicks into it's receptacle on the logic board.

  • Is that track pad ribbon removable from the top case itself as well?

  • hey what do u call the small thing at your right beside the screw?

  • I have a 2007 MacBook pro 15' and the trackpad clicker is stuck. it no longer clicks and sometimes it remains depressed.. so i'll be moving the cursor around and it'll start dragging things all over the place. Do you know any fixes for this?

  • @FeceMcGee - You have to replace the top case to fix this issue.

  • @PowerbookMedic thanks.. know any good places to buy one??

  • @FeceMcGee - We sell them. You can visit our website or call 1-866-726-3342.

  • hey love the vid :) i want to change my cd drive and replace the bottom casing (as its damaged) to replace it would i take out the whole circuit and do you have a video for this?

  • @bigcheese601 - Please see our other videos. We have the every step in the disassembly process

  • Thanks for the Tuto, I have a Macbook pro 15"(late 2008 model)the keyboard, trackpad and USB are not responding. I have read that the golden tape-wires in the battery case are faulty. Can they be purchased seprately? Have you a tuto on that. Thanks

  • Thanks for the awesome tutorial!! Now I can replace my macbook pro keyboard! Can I ask what size the first phillips screwdriver was? and where can i purchase one of those? THANKS!

  • @sooperrmonkey - Its a size # 00. It's available from our website.

  • @sooperrmonkey - You can swap the keyboard from your old top case to a new top case.

  • Hi, I have a 15'' MBP with some cosmetic defects, and I wanted to replace the top case since there are dents and scratches on it. I've found some top cases for sale however most don't have the keyboard as they are sold seperately. The keyboard on the topcase I have on is fully functional and in great condition. Is there a way I can use the keyboard I have now and put it on a top case I will purchase in the future?

  • @PowerbookMedic- how much would this cost if dont by your company? Would i be able to get a quote for this?

  • Hi, I have a 15in MBP and am attempting to replace the harddrive. Following you excellent guide and video I am trying to remove the top case however it appears to be locked in place in the front.

I have removed all screws and still it feels locked in. When watching your video, it appeared to just come straight out. Is there a trick to getting the front edge to come free?

  • @dougalballantyne - Does it feel like it is holding on near the optical drive? There are a series of clips along the front of the unit that hold the top case on. Usually you just need to lift up to pop the top case off.

  • Hi, I have a 15in MBP and the top cover does not sit flush over the bottom part, most likely from the clips being bent. Who can repair this without sending it to Apple? I've opened it before to replace the drive, but it never fits flush when I go to put the top back on. How much do you charge for this? I'm n L.A.

    Thanks

  • Our company can repair this. We have a send in service available for a flat labor fee.

  • You could try to take the top case off and fix it, however usually you'll have to replace it. If Apple can tell you've removed a component, then your warranty is void. The flip side to that is that if you've got a big ding in your unit, your warranty is likely void anyway.

  • Would this void the warranty??

Lets say for instance that a 10 year old girl stepped on it while it was open right over the superdrive. There is a depression and while the Superdrive works, I cannot eject the disk in the superdrive. Cou;ld I bend the top case back just a wee bit?

Or should I take it to Apple ( I have Applecare, but am not sure if this is covered)

    Great site, BTW

  • When i removed my top case the inside was filthy !... what is the best way to clean it ?

  • You can use some compressed air to blow out the dust.

  • my macbook pro fell a couple of times so the case got loose towards the front (the area around the trackpad) so whenever i rest my hand on that area the mouse is clicked, is there a way to fix this? Would removing the case and putting it together again fix my problem?

  • It's hard to say without seeing it, but I'd first try to reseat it, and if that doesn't work, replace it.

  • It is possible to upgrade to a SSD drive. They are available from our website.

  • Hello I have a macbook pro 2.16 core 2 duo. I was wondering if its possible to upgrade the harddrive to solid state? If so who sells SSDs for these notebooks? Furthermore would it be difficult to upgrade the screen to the LED backlighting found on the late 2007 macbook pro models? Thank you in advance.

  • You likely just need to replace the top case, and possibly the keyboard. You can do the repair yourself if you're handy. The parts are available from our website.

  • my lil infant son threw up on my macbook pro keyboard and now the down and right keys don't work. Is this a simple fix? I would hate to take it in for repairs cuz its so damn expensive! Also my track pad button isn't working very well... Any help would be appreciated

  • You've likely got a bum sensor in the trackpad and you need to replace the top case / trackpad assembly. We've got those available at our store.

  • my trackpad is moving by itself... there are no dust particuls or nothing what so ever on it sometimes it get better but its reall annoying when im tryin to work on it :S any suggestion on what or how to fix this problem???

  • No, you can't change the 2.2GHZ keyboard for the Unibody model.

  • can you replace the keyboard of macbook pro 2.2 GHZ for the latest one?

  • Yes, it's simple. You just remove the screws, disconnect the cable and transfer it from one top case to the other.

  • when replacing the top case, how do i remove my current keyboard to the new top case? is it easy?

  • thanks a bunch man, ur videos really help

  • Yes, you can install 10.5.6 on this machine.

  • hey,i have this same mac,can i install the leopard 10.5.6 software on it?

  • This video you are replying to shows you how to remove the top case. Check out our profiler for the other Macbook Pro 15" videos.

  • What video? I just went through everything, and I didn't find it =(

  • It's about a medium difficulty. I'd watch the video to see if you think you're up to the task.

  • Cool beans. I was wondering how easy is it to replace the MACBOOK PRO CASE AND TRACKPAD 15 inch part with a new one and transfer everything attached to the bottom to the new one? Hopefully that makes sense!

  • You can try to clean it, but usually you have to replace the top case /trackpad assembly. The part is available from our website.

  • I've got a sticky trackpad button on my macbook pro, is this the best way to handle trying to clean it out? I've already tried shooting compressed air in there with no luck.

  • You'd need a size #00 philips screwdriver...it's available from our website.

  • aside from the tourque T6, will a normal phillips do the other screws

  • the four minutes unscrewing where completely useless, but apart from that: good video, thanks.

  • Although it seems completely useless, I'd rather have those steps included so it's a COMPLETE video, rather than one that skips. If you didn't need it, just fast forward.

    Awesome job, Powerbook Medic!
