You can't refute the fact that this Utah team should have had the opportunity to play for the national championship. They were that good. Another point to make is that Alabama has one of the elite recruiting classes every year. Utah's best recruiting class wasn't until after this BCS bowl game and the utes still were ranked outside of the of top 10 recruiting classes. This was a talented team who like the 04' Utes deserved an opportunity to play for the national championship.

@cshizzle53 Sorry I should have been more clear. The BCS needs to be done away with as the method of determining a champion because it defies any logic in it's approach. I never said the bowl games needed to be abolished. One thing you could do is make the bowl games part of a playoff system, you'd have 15 bowls eligible for that in a 16 team playoff. Or if not, you could STILL keep the bowls in place as a consolation for teams who didn't make the playoffs, and that way...
the seniors could still have one last game to celebrate their accomplishments at whatever university. It would basically be like what the NIT, CBI, and CTI tournaments in college basketball are. And quite frankly, all of the current bowl games outside of the so called "national championship game" are already basically like NIT games. A playoff would simply add more teams who deserve a legitimate shot at a championship a MORE meaningful postseason experience than the current system.
