The only 2 problems I have with this video is A: You're doing a comparison on a character that's not a high character, so you can't show everything. 2: You keep referring to wow on everything. "This is basically like wow, this is like wow, oh and that's just like wow. You may remember something like this from wow etc" Sure there's a lot of similarities, but it's impossible to create a fantasy mmo without incorporating successful features from other games, while adding their own feel to the game.
I liked your video but i just wanna say that it puts me on edge when people compare things to WOW it is the most "popular" but thats only because they had billions of dollars to advertise. Oh and WOW is in no way original. So many mmorpgs came before WOW maybe it would be best to say Rift is a RPG like and other RPG the foundation will be the same. So i'm getting the idea rift is all about end game like wow .. I hate group based gameplay so i gave up playing wow .. should i not bother trying rift for this reason or is there freelance solo content in rift endgame? ie will exploring new things finish when i hit end game, except silly group raids of course. Dont get why these amazing zone based games just rush you through the real content then stuff you into a instance with a bunch of assholes at the end.

I played Rift for 3 months. It was refreshing at first and I thought I had found a game to take me away from WoW that I have grown bored to tears with but after the 3 months it didn;t seem to have what it took to keep me. I can't explain it. It;s a pretty game, it;s a good game but it lacks character or something.. I went back to WoW and started a new alliance toon and I am happy to be back. I missed the atmosphere and music of WoW. I still like the graphics and different worlds in wow.

@kustomkure I have been playing WoW for 4 years. During that that I basically went through all the dungeon and raid content since TBC til now, I gathered 11500 achievement points, farmed 50 reputations and created my own, very successful raiding guild which exists to this day. Please don't tell me if I can or cannot comment dude, because you don't have the right to say that I can't.
PS. Switched to Rift couple of days ago and I think it's better than WoW. Blizzard destroyed their game.
BTW you can rename pets as often as you like in wow. For warlock it's thru demon trainers and for hunters there are scrolls you can buy (not expensive).
I don't see a lot of difference between wow and rift. well rift looks like a clone with higher graphics, slightly, I don't think they are reinventing the wheel, when I first heard about Rift, there was that sentence saying This IS NOT wow, its more mature oriented... well it doesn't feel like it, same silly companions, etc...
wow graphics are good for a game of its age, they are by no means horrible. Rift looks nice but my current laptop cant handle 10 mans at the moment so until I get a new pc I cant experience either to there full glory QQ

Rift did come from wow but then again every game like these ppl say is a wow clone and some I agree with but (here graphics look more like oblivion) there are many similarities and differences to the two games. Wow came out earlier and the graphics have improved some and decreased some but its supposed to have that cartoonish look. You said that some of the quests in WoW require you to kill up to 20 mobs, which is true; after which you said that quests in RIFT will only require you to kill like 5 or 6, but I noticed in your log it says you've killed 10/40 of Y mobs? Haha, just something I picked up on :P
A lot of you fail to realize that WoW was an Everquest clone except dumbed down. Blizzard hired 2 of the top raiders in the world from EQ and asked them to help them build WoW, but change the "grindy" feel to it such as the crafting & outdoor bosses with 50-100 people outside & create instances. I've been playing Rift for about a full week now & yes there are A LOT of similarities, but it's hard to be completely original. Tolkien created Fantasy, AD&D expanded, then to console, then to MMOs.
look at everything, when you die you go ghost. When you loot, you "need, greed, pass". The talent tree is diff, but looks very similar. Spells are the SAME with a diff NAME. Graphics are great but considering WoW is 10 years old, i would expect that. Buffs are the same. HuD is the same. Quests are the same. Character models are the same. im sorry but if ALL a game has to offer is graphics, then ill pass. Rift only has one single original idea. Im sorry, but im not sold.
Blizzard was the first to create something of WoW's nature. simply, the only way to top it is to be completely original. How do you top WoW's bosses, raids, human interaction, customizability, and ofcourse Blizzard's support? Yes I play WoW and have saw rift. My opinion on it is rift is the game to play now. But WoW will become a better game and add better things to it. Players will come back to WoW. But then again Rift will have updates to win over players. People it will go on and on until one game stops making updates. It's simple.
Rift did copy a lot from WoW but not everything. Having a mini map at the top doesn't count because almost every mmo/mmorpg has one. But changing rage to energy and having an xp bar and ability bar is a copy. There is other stuff they ripped off but rift didn't make up very many things.
-yawn- Guild Wars 2 is more than likely going to rake up far more attention before launch, and after, for an undeniable reason: It's taking MMO's out of the same traditional bullshit WoW trapped it in back in 2004. Not to say that* bullshit is bad, per-say, but it definitely should not and does not define MMOG's and certainly shouldn't keep its vice on the genre 7 years later, fantasy or otherwise. Slapping a second-hand 'dynamic' Rift mechanic on a system that does not support it isn't helping.
@UPRC I really wish that was the truth (honestly), but I'm playing the trial right now and it's jittery. Meanwhile, I'm able to play WoW on high with 0 lag (aka smooooooothness). rift seems just too clunky to pvp.

@fire00714 I only said that to address the lag issue someone pointed out. IMO, Rift IS better than WoW. Why? Well because it's not only newer, it STAYS new. They push out new content every few weeks and add a new raid about once a month. Trion Worlds have even said their goal is to get new things for players to do every month or so. That in itself kicks the sh!t out of WoW end-game and leveling content. Well... excluded Cata leveling. Frankly, that was awesome.
@fire00714 The reason you see WoW videos running more smoothly is because it doesn't require much to run on maximum graphic settings. RIFT's graphics are so much better, but require a better computer to run well.

@MegaJust4comments They most certainly are. The Playstation 2 was released in 2000, WoW in 2004. I remember looking at pictures of Feralas and other areas in 2005 and finding them to be gorgeous. WoW may look awful today, but it did not when it was released.

fact check... cataclysm sold just under 5 million copies.. back in the "11 million" days they had to recall 2 million boxed game packages for false advertising.. they had to change it from "join 11 million players..." to "11 million players HAVE experiencED"... and this next part blizzard openly admits.. 7 million of their grand total of subs come from asia where they pay by the hour, not monthly.. and anyone who bought even ONE HOUR of gametime was counted in the 12+ million subs.. get a clue

@b7desktop Totally not true. Blizzard has become INCREDIBLY lazy with their content. Just look at their Gear, every expansion it's 90% re-colored or slightly remodeled shit, and the new Tier 12? How can they even market that shit, it's bland, lame, just fucken horrible lazy work. Compare that to BC gear because IMO it was the only and last decent expansion. After that WoW realized an MMO takes too long to make well and other developers don't have the money they had to start so they're safe.

@LastGlocksCoD If you have been playing WoW for quite some time, then Rift will be exciting and fun at first, but it does get boring if you're exhausted from all of the grind in WoW. It's essentially the same, just with a different paint job and a few more features.
Very good review, and I must say that this has been probably 'the best' video on Rift I've seen so far (and I've seen quite a few). 1. You just go through the game as usual (to give us a feel for the game). 2. You started at a city and moved toward a questing zone/rift. 3. You just show the similarities/differences to WoW rather nicely.

I believe Rift will get a lot of people at first because it is new and the rage. WoW will get some expansion or update sometime. Rift starts to lose poeple because it starts to get boring. People come back to WoW because it is a fun game.
Wow is static and does not listen to its customers,just the act of taking Volley away from hunters and not putting back proves that. They also let people with no patience hurt other people that are still learning be hurt with things like being kick out of dungeons or what every very easily by nerd rage or just hateful people. Not only that,they let these same people use things like G S and Recount be used as a weapons to hurt others, not to help,wow has lost its way as a fun, friendly mmo.
Rift is obviously copying WoW. of course it may have a few new things added in but they are still based on what WoW has already created. Plus it is easy to say that they made this game based on the fact that good MMO's makee alloot of money (WoW). And there you have it. I still believe you cant beat WoW as a MMO. it just has something that keeps you playing.

So I know that if the Rifts arent closed they take over sort of and can overwhelm towns but here's what I am wondering. If no one closed any Rifts would it be possible for them to literally take over the entire main city? I am just wondering to how far an extent the invasion can go. Lol at servers taken over by rifts.
@junglevacuum Well Ive got the game on order ... but my friend plays it and yes if the rifts are not shut they can take over main areas ... You see all the different kind of rifts , death life , water ect ... well they are also against each other ... So say a water invasion takes over a tower and fire another ... they both battle each other as well if they are near :)
@junglevacuum Well, a rift will eventually close after 90 mins. But up until 1 week ago, a level 8 rift was glitched and NEVER shut. So if it were mabye a higher leveled one, you wouldnt be able to log on for 1 week till it was fixed :D.
People say that Rift is a WoW ripoff but they are very different in their own ways to one another. They both have different storylines, different races, factions, and they both have different graphic styles. I respect Rift although I currently play World of Warcraft, and the reason why I stick with world of warcraft right now is because I just got cataclysm not too long ago and I don't want it to go to waste, but in a year maybe I will play rift.

Rift is an awesome game, but on the otherhand, Rift's starting areas are all the same except for the Guardians and Defiants. So when I hit 50 and want to make an Alt, it's going to be the samethig over again. Not saying Rift is a bad game, but just bringing it out there. Played WoW since early BC and bought Rift, ATM, rift is much better, but I think WoW has just been polished well in it's 10 years and has solid gameplay and is maybe better for the long run.

@Xanthzzz It does many things that WoW does, but it has lots of features that set it apart as well. "Talent" trees are more customizable, there are invasions and rifts happening all over the place, you can dye your gear (looks good, too), and sigils, which are items that you equip and can apply bonuses to and such. Sigils work sort of like enchanting/socketing, but is a little more customizable. There are more features that set Rift apart from WoW as well.
@UPRC many more to i have had for 2 weeks and ..WOW am i addicted to this game its allot of fun and the best part i find so far is everyone is chillen, layed back and friendly (and a bit clueless which makes it more fun cause we all work together better). game is allot of fun and i loved wow for a long long time and it got old as anything does.. and this is new and fastenating to me (i quit wow relapsed 7 months later to be bored again in less then week) this game i am JONSING to play

@Xanthzzz I'm pretty sure it's MADE to be better than WoW. It takes what it has, and improves it, and adds onto it. To me they did a good job. First 30 minutes in, I had more fun than I ever had in WoW. Player since Vanilla. And I'm not saying it's better in every way, but I think it will be. I mean, first day out , and you can see how everybody compares it. That's pretty good.

@Xanthzzz WoW borrows very heavily from traditions established by Everquest, and Everquest borrowed heavily from Dungeons & Dragons (the progenitor of RPG's) - it's called public domain, which is why Rift can utilize techniques WoW has demonstrated to be desirable. Rift's developers primary goal wasn't to be original, it was to be "better," to offer answers to constraints and complaints people have had about MMORPG's (read as: WoW) in the past. It looks pretty and it's more dynamic.

@Donny1543 well, i see your point. I would guess rift is less time consuming? But i find WoW to have more experience with how their community works, which i find good. And i think everyone is quitting WoW because they want something new, maybe not so much as the game is getting boring. Although i have to say this last expansion kinda killed WoW, making it easier to do everything, eh. I played Rift for 3 months. It was refreshing at first and I thought I had found a game to take me away from WoW that I have grown bored to tears with but after the 3 months it didn;t seem to have what it took to keep me. I can't explain it. It;s a pretty game, it;s a good game but it lacks character or something.. I went back to WoW and started a new alliance toon and I am happy to be back. I missed the atmosphere and music of WoW. I still like the graphics and different worlds in wow.

During that that I basically went through all the dungeon and raid content since TBC til now, I gathered 11500 achievement points, farmed 50 reputations and created my own, very successful raiding guild which exists to this day. Please don't tell me if I can or cannot comment dude, because you don't have the right to say that I can't.
PS. Switched to Rift couple of days ago and I think it's better than WoW. Blizzard destroyed their game.

BTW you can rename pets as often as you like in wow. For warlock it's thru demon trainers and for hunters there are scrolls you can buy (not expensive).
I don't see a lot of difference between wow and rift. well rift looks like a clone with higher graphics, slightly, I don't think they are reinventing the wheel, when I first heard about Rift, there was that sentence saying This IS NOT wow, its more mature oriented... well it doesn't feel like it, same silly companions, etc...

Rift did come from wow but then again every game like these ppl say is a wow clone and some I agree with but (here graphics look more like oblivion) there are many similarities and differences to the two games. Wow came out earlier and the graphics have improved some and decreased some but its supposed to have that cartoonish look. A lot of you fail to realize that WoW was an Everquest clone except dumbed down. Blizzard hired 2 of the top raiders in the world from EQ and asked them to help them build WoW, but change the "grindy" feel to it such as the crafting & outdoor bosses with 50-100 people outside & create instances. I've been playing Rift for about a full week now & yes there are A LOT of similarities, but it's hard to be completely original. Tolkien created Fantasy, AD&D expanded, then to console, then to MMOs.

look at everything, when you die you go ghost. When you loot, you "need, greed, pass". The talent tree is diff, but looks very similar. Spells are the SAME with a diff NAME. Graphics are great but considering WoW is 10 years old, i would expect that. Buffs are the same. HuD is the same. Quests are the same. Character models are the same. im sorry but if ALL a game has to offer is graphics, then ill pass. Rift only has one single original idea. Im sorry, but im not sold.

Rift did copy a lot from WoW but not everything. Having a mini map at the top doesn't count because almost every mmo/mmorpg has one. But changing rage to energy and having an xp bar and ability bar is a copy. There is other stuff they ripped off but rift didn't make up very many things.

@fire00714 I only said that to address the lag issue someone pointed out. IMO, Rift IS better than WoW. Why? Well because it's not only newer, it STAYS new. They push out new content every few weeks and add a new raid about once a month. Trion Worlds have even said their goal is to get new things for players to do every month or so. That in itself kicks the sh!t out of WoW end-game and leveling content. Well... excluded Cata leveling. Frankly, that was awesome.

@MegaJust4comments They most certainly are. The Playstation 2 was released in 2000, WoW in 2004. I remember looking at pictures of Feralas and other areas in 2005 and finding them to be gorgeous. WoW may look awful today, but it did not when it was released.

fact check... cataclysm sold just under 5 million copies.. back in the "11 million" days they had to recall 2 million boxed game packages for false advertising.. they had to change it from "join 11 million players..." to "11 million players HAVE experiencED"... and this next part blizzard openly admits.. 7 million of their grand total of subs come from asia where they pay by the hour, not monthly.. and anyone who bought even ONE HOUR of gametime was counted in the 12+ million subs.. get a clue

How can they even market that shit, it's bland, lame, just fucken horrible lazy work. Compare that to BC gear because IMO it was the only and last decent expansion. Very good review, and I must say that this has been probably 'the best' video on Rift I've seen so far (and I've seen quite a few). 1. You just go through the game as usual (to give us a feel for the game). 2. You started at a city and moved toward a questing zone/rift. 3. You just show the similarities/differences to WoW rather nicely.
I was definitely on the fence recently, but after this review, I will definitely check Rift out. Thanks a lot! Very to the point video.

Wow is static and does not listen to its customers,just the act of taking Volley away from hunters and not putting back proves that. They also let people with no patience hurt other people that are still learning be hurt with things like being kick out of dungeons or what every very easily by nerd rage or just hateful people. So I know that if the Rifts arent closed they take over sort of and can overwhelm towns but here's what I am wondering. You see all the different kind of rifts , death life , water ect ... well they are also against each other ... @junglevacuum Well, a rift will eventually close after 90 mins. But up until 1 week ago, a level 8 rift was glitched and NEVER shut. So if it were mabye a higher leveled one, you wouldnt be able to log on for 1 week till it was fixed :D.

1. quad spec, and for cheap
2. talk to opposing faction, no more / spit retards
3. auto loot all bodies at once instead of having to pick each individul body
4. public groups when doing rift events, no more having to form groups and beg people to join, whoever is around helps you out.
5. million combos for talents,
6. no gay cartoony graphics
7. can obtain a mount at lvl 1
8. more challenging, its easy, but no where near as simple and brian dead easy as wow's entire game

Rift is an awesome game, but on the otherhand, Rift's starting areas are all the same except for the Guardians and Defiants. So when I hit 50 and want to make an Alt, it's going to be the samethig over again. Not saying Rift is a bad game, but just bringing it out there. Played WoW since early BC and bought Rift, ATM, rift is much better, but I think WoW has just been polished well in it's 10 years and has solid gameplay and is maybe better for the long run.

rifts graphics are really the turning point in why i lean towards this game as well as a few minor features

Is this game basically wow but with improved features i.e. grapihics class/talent system and the change of rifts opening...ive heard people say the rifts get boring .. but to me it seems cool and its only 1 feature of the game.. better then wow with no rifts..wow bores me to even look at now let alone play all tho its prolly the best game besides l4d2 that ive ever played...if rift is like what i said im def gunna get cause i need to replace the void where wow once was.. and + game looks cool

I haven't played or tried out Rift yet,but it kinda seems like a rip off of W.O.W.Any thoughts?

@Xanthzzz It does many things that WoW does, but it has lots of features that set it apart as well. "Talent" trees are more customizable, there are invasions and rifts happening all over the place, you can dye your gear (looks good, too), and sigils, which are items that you equip and can apply bonuses to and such. Sigils work sort of like enchanting/socketing, but is a little more customizable. There are more features that set Rift apart from WoW as well.

@UPRC many more to i have had for 2 weeks and ..WOW am i addicted to this game its allot of fun and the best part i find so far is everyone is chillen, layed back and friendly (and a bit clueless which makes it more fun cause we all work together better). game is allot of fun and i loved wow for a long long time and it got old as anything does.. and this is new and fastenating to me (i quit wow relapsed 7 months later to be bored again in less then week) this game i am JONSING to play

@UPRC just those few differences arent enough to make me want to pay an extra $50 or $60 and then keep on paying $15/month. the game is almost the EXACT same and the gameplay i see is so much worse than any other mmo i've ever seen. every pvp gameplay video i see, the player is always spamming 1-2 skills.... lol fun?

@Xanthzzz wow just a rip off of everquest anyhow its become a type of game like how hockey games are hockeys games these games are about questing working together to beat bosses and hope your gear drops...there about investing time to get better... they dont end for that reason..same with fps how many war games are there with a campaign.. oo this time im fighting japs as koreans instead of americans on russians.. like all games they have diff scenario and textures but in the end shoot and shoot

@Xanthzzz I'm pretty sure it's MADE to be better than WoW. It takes what it has, and improves it, and adds onto it. To me they did a good job. First 30 minutes in, I had more fun than I ever had in WoW. Player since Vanilla. And I'm not saying it's better in every way, but I think it will be. I mean, first day out , and you can see how everybody compares it. That's pretty good.

@Harrisjacob313 love the comment man i got 2 weeks ago and i am loving this game i am starting to neglect friends and sleeping before work... its bad (but i love it)..just got back got a 6 pack gunna go do about 4 instances in a row then clean the house with the roomies haaa(about your comment i agree its still so fresh this little marijuana sprout will grow into a beautiful tree with the right subscribers.. game much better then wow my opinion

@Xanthzzz yes he gave u a .5% list of some differences.. i was skeptical about getting and i did get it in end... ive had for almost 21 weeks and well its alrdy taking a toll on my life lol im crack head addicted i going to work tired and bailing on going out with friends hahaha . If you like/liked wow and are just bored of it and its old to you then i suggest this game if u want something to fill void...(amazing game my opinion) be smart l, take a break for 6 months from mmo and get a shooter.

@Xanthzzz WoW borrows very heavily from traditions established by Everquest, and Everquest borrowed heavily from Dungeons & Dragons (the progenitor of RPG's) - it's called public domain, which is why Rift can utilize techniques WoW has demonstrated to be desirable. Rift's developers primary goal wasn't to be original, it was to be "better," to offer answers to constraints and complaints people have had about MMORPG's (read as: WoW) in the past. It looks pretty and it's more dynamic.

@Xanthzzz Have you ever thought that WOW was a rip off of EverQuest??? Every new MMORPG is gonna get there ideas from previous MMORPG so dont say that any mmo that comes out after WOW is gonna be a rip off of it. And BTW Rift is a fun game you just need to play it
