  • Aw, you left out that part where they’re parading Larry & Ralph through Vegas! That was a good part, too, because it’s where Flagg “speaks for America” and calls Larry & Ralph “insurrectionists” (see the similarity to our “Patriot Act” allowing the fed gov’t to warrant-less arrest, indefinitely detain and even torture anyone deem “insurgents”—practically the same word). The rest of the film’s good, but I just found that part peculiarly prophetic.

  • @freddietz96 yeah I just caught this on TV the other day and I never saw that whole part before and it certainly explains what happened when Julie Lawry tripped and got electrocuted. But what the hell happened to the Trashcan man?

  • @TheBookWorm1718 His social skills are so poor that when his fellow Flagg followers tease him for his erratic behavior, he firebombs said detractors in the hanger where they're training to be Flagg's military air force. Then he flees to an underground Nevada base (one w/ nuke cruise missiles to play with), gets lonely, regrets hurting his boss's war plans & decides to "make good" by bringing back a warhead. The journey next to the high-rad warhead leaves him like a broiled chicken.

  • @freddietz96 That's what I thought, on here it's kind of hard to tell, but I saw it on TV the other day and there you can really see how terrible he looked toward the end.

  • @TheBookWorm1718 He also gets pistol-raped by a character the movie completely leaves out: “The Kid”. Imagine a steroid-amped 5 ft tall Billy Idol bisexual who drinks Coors by the case and drives a hot rod 30’s deuce coupe. Flagg considers The Kid such a leadership threat he has him killed before he can reach Vegas. You can read part of that chapter online at Google books (google the kid happy crappy stand car).

  • you can´t expect a movie to be as good as the book it´s based on. stephen king is a great author, but the movies made from his books always suck - this is one of the better ones. anyone remembers the movies to "salem´s lot" or "it"?? THOSE were crappy

  • 0:52 What happened to her?

  • At 8:05 , I definitely got a little laugh. "Aww George, I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him and hug him" type of thing goin' on there....at least a little bit.

  • Bumpty, bumpty bump! That's how I drive to work every morning

  • REALLY love this movie. It's actually one of my favourite movies, and probably mini-series including Queens starring Halle Berry-Thank you for posting it brunette427

  • Looks like the Citation didn't end up being destroyed at the Gas station after all.

  • In reality, being exposed to a nuclear missile doesn't give you radiation sickness. The radiation is sealed inside a special shield. It's the actual explosion that releases the radiation and can do what happens to Trash.

  • @steppinoutstudios

In the book the radiation sickness of trashy was caused while building the a-bomb at the military facility due to the exposure there.

  • @steppinoutstudios it is explained in much better detail in the book, but it takes trashy a long time to get to the bomb. In the movie, he is just pretty much able to walk into a warehouse & pick one out. In the the book, he has to figure out a way into the base(without electricity) and load it on to the trailer & manage to get it out. that much exposure is what cause the radiation sickness... mind you i am no radiation expert! :)

  • @linzzyy It would take a MASSIVE amount of exposure to dozens of those warheads at the same time for the radiation sickness to start hitting him like that. Either that or the bomb hath done gone FUBAR and is leaking like a sonofabitch. And taht was a tactical sized nuke. Yeah. It'll mess vegas up pretty bad but won't wipe it off the earth...

    M-O-O-N That spells LT.Dan Taylor.

  • shit man nicks talkin!!!!!!!!

  • I haven't seen a Chevy Citation in a long time. Ha.

  • That must be pretty hard to work the clutch, gas and brake with his left foot. :)

  • Larry used to walk those streets (cause god said no cars), a loaded six string on his back (that he wasn't supposed to have, shame on you Larry).

He played for keeps (although, everything was free at that point), cause he wasn't going back (to Boulder).

He's been pretty much everywhere (i mean, he had to go from NY, to Boulder, to Las Vagas), but still, He stood tall (He was a bit on the short side, though, right?).

He saw a million (dead) faces, and he defenatly rocked them all.

  • i wish larry didn't die, he was a good character

  • M-O-O-N spells peanut butter and jelly!!

  • @awesomeseghute I thought that for a long time, and there are still things abt it that bother me, but over the years Ive come to accept it. After all, it gained Kings approval.

  • I know Julie Lawry perished in the film, but is her electrocution mentioned in the book?

  • @jordancloudbuster

I literally just read the end of the book and read this entire part and i dont think they mention her dying at all, other than the nuke.

  • I know Julie Lawry perished in the film, but is her electrocution mentioned in the book?

  • as much as I hated the character of Julie Lawry, they couldn't have picked a better actress for her part. I always liked Shawnee Smith since the remake of the Blob, and she just looks like a little fuck monkey.

  • @kalelwannabe Ya she was good... I always pictured Juliette Lewis for Lawry too. Screw you silly and quite likely kill you in your sleep! LOL kinda reminds me of a couple girls I dated b4 I met my wife.

  • @nhawks33 LMAO, yeah JL would have been a good JL, hey that's funny. And yes now that you mention it SK's JL is preobably the archtype of all schizoid ex girlfriends.

  • Bread that had lasted that long, far FAR too many preservatives. And has anyone besides me wondered if maybe when Trash was saying I would die for you he might have actually, being mad as a hatter, think he was talking to God and everyone simply presumed he was speaking to Randal?

  • That being said, the ending of the miniseries is terribly Narm-ful compared to the end of the book.

The book also establishes how Larry and them needed to go to provide a distraction for Trash.

You guys do know King wrote this as an American version of Lord of the Rings, right? He said so in Danse Macabre. Seen the end of ROTK lately?

  • Three points: 1. Um, y'all do know there's a whole 10 minute sequence missing right at the climax of the film right? Seems an awkward place to skip a beat.

    2. Anyone who didn't notice point #1 probably has no business complaining about why Larry etc. Everything happened to allow events to turn out the way it did.

    3. If one is reflexively hostile to religion (not just "meh I wish it were that simple" but "I hate religion") then why watch a supernatural film/book about the end of the world?

  • @ijwi To complain about realism? In real life our "modern enlightenment" would break down quickly in the absence of wealth.

The "ideals" of Western free-thinkers and modernists and academics are built on a sea of oil and pillaged resources. Read Jared Diamond or Kunstler...

  • Wonder how this would have turned out if George A Romero had directed this, as King had hoped he would. Too gory for TV no doubt, good old George!

  • I saw the burning bush. OMG.

  • cibola..bumpity bumpity bump ;)

  • Ok It's the ENd of the WORLD & thats the BEST Car they could Find to take is a 1977 Chevy SHITVETTE!

  • @gnrdude I hate to burst your bubble, but the car they found was a Chevy Citation from the early '80's. If it was a Chevette, then there would be no way that a big guy like Tom Cullen would be able squeeze into that car, let alone get out without a freakin' can opener... hee hee... lol

But the Chev Citation was a sure disappointment and bad excuse for a car, even worse than an old Chevette! I had a Chevette years ago that just wouldn't die, no matter what kind of hell I put it through!

  • @janosleng73 Well i knew it Was one of those late 70's early 80's jokes For a sub compact that GM came up with. But still if it were the end of the World I'd atleast steal a Corvette or something COOL@!!!!!! or a 4X4 Truck!

  • I always felt a little sorry for Trashcan Man. He was a pyro, and he obviously needed help. He was ridiculed and belittled his entire life and then he was used by Flagg while he wasn't in his right mind. And even then people hated him. I just felt so glad at the end when HE was the one that brought the bomb into the center of Las Vegas and inadvertently ended it all :)

  • @enginesummer99 that was the whole piont of trashy, he was the everyday man that gets shit on all his life but in the end when it comes down to it he is the one that is responsible for saving the world. Pretty standard Steve King idea, that the person with autism, or some other mental deficency (sp) is the hero in the end not the rich, or the brilliant, or the famous, but the like Tommy the simplest of us who can be relied on to do the right thing when it matters. Great story!

  • this end looks like a disney attraction... so disappointing

  • This series did the book no justice, nothing can amount to the novel.

Hope they do better with the Under The Dome series

  • @TheMaineLobstah

omg they're going to do an under the dome series?!?!?

that's awesome. i'm so excited! when's it supposed to come out?

  • I think I must read the book, this series and the comments say it all, there are many unexplained connections, all the same I appreciate the upload!

    Thank you!

  • At 2:40) Now that's what I call a hand job!

  • Are U Ok? Lt. Dan...

  • I'm so disappointed. In the novel, Larry was saying "I will fear no evil, I will f.." and the bomb goes off. It was one of the most powerful moments. Why didn't they leave it??

  • Im so fed up with idiots from other countries telling us Americans what they think we ALL believe!!! Keep your big noses out of our business, and if the idiots that keep talking crap about us are french, just remember you would be speaking german if it wasnt for our American grandfathers!!!

  • @lms662002 fuck yeah nicely worded

  • stupid

  • the universe wasn't created in 7 days, it's a metaphor. do you think people 4000 years ago would understand exactly how God made the universe? the bible is almost pure metaphor, teaching what God stands for. Except for Jesus and all that stuff.

  • I stoped reading Stephen King because he just keeps jamming religion into everything. It gets pretty ughh after so many God stories. God comes along and fixes everything, Nick gets resurrected, EVERYONE has telepathy now, meh. Where is the challenge? What is the point of all this if God from the machine comes along and does all the work?

  • mate, almost 50% of US citizens believe that Universe has been created in 7 days (yeah, right...) the rest wont be sure, will be confused or dont believe in organized religion at all.

BUT, since you wonna sell it (novel) you have to understand your customers and since most certain target audience will be dumb christians with their Middle Ages believes you DO put lots of religious mumble-jumble stuff.

    it's simple.

  • @utar88utar your an asshole, acting like you know americans, or what we think. Fuck you

  • @chastityjc yes, with that post and that kind of an attitude you proved me wrong :]

(for US citizens reading this [assuming you can read]... it was a sarcasm :] )

    adieu

  • ofc if after some global disaster there will be any trace of religion (any religion) left then there wont be any hope for human kind.

after all, religion is the root of all evil on this planet... organized religion and monetary system.

    peace.

  • 0:33 - Face of the year

  • I agree with morphinemoniza, the ending was a huge let down for me. This entire show was directed by "god" and instead of just simply wiping out Las Vegas himself, he requests more sacrifices. Not to mention that the entire super flu could have been prevented by this god.

    What an asshole

  • the purpose of "the stand" was to gather the truely evil and let the others go.

  • have u ever been ?ed for the ways u did things? that maybe looked crazy to anybody else? yet, u had ur reasons. He is not an a**hole. u r for not letting Him do His work the way He knows best, since He sees the big picture

  • if I was an omnipotent, omniscient being then no, I would have never been questioned. And yes, I think I can safely classify someone who destroys 99.2% of the world in a plague, then request the survivors to blindly go to their unnecessary demise. That's not just an asshole, that is evil. I don't know what King's ultimate "message" was, but I did not like the ending because there was a heavy religious tone and it made it out like "god" had a plan. It's just a poorly thought out plan simple

  • by the way, I just re-read my post and my writing was atrocious. Ultimately what I am trying to say is that if King had intended this to be a complete religious reference and that god had a "plan" the entire time, it makes no sense to waste countless, innocent lives to rid the world of the bad--one swoop of an all powerful being's hand should have done the trick.

But yes, God is definitely an asshole in this book, I do stand by that.

  • calling Him names could be the worst thing u could ever do. U R the a**hole, NOT Him. He'll rid the world of U instead. we don't need such hateful people

& that might not have been Kings point at all.

  • u really have not done ur homework. YHWH did NOT destroy anyone using a plague. it's the JERKS who rule this world. 13 families. u obviously cannot speak 4 those of us who know Him WELL. so dont try it. i know Him personally, so i can speak 4 Him, not u

  • Ok crazy lady, you keep on believing in Santa Clause and I'll keep finding amusement in those said beliefs, especially comments such as, "I know Him personally, so i can speak 4 Him."

Also, the fact that you capitalize the word him like that is his name or something is very odd. I'm actually kind of worried for you, you may want to make sure you're not delusional

  • i WAS delusional, when i was wandering around on my own w/o Him. no need to worry 4 me. i am MUCH happier than i was before knowing Him. the reason im angry w u is bc u insist on calling Him names & blaming Him 4 things u no nothing about. u would defend ur best friend 2. sounds like u were raised in the church. no wonder. theyre idiots.

  • @Hexagram777 Sadly, I have to agree.

  • 4:00 reminds me of the beginning of Category 7.

"i think someone just blew up Las Vegas!"

  • Why do they make Tom and Nick look like they had some gay thing going on, When it's more like a dad-son relationship?

  • Can any one please tell the name of the piano piece at 8:30> I've never heard anything like it before it's so moving

  • yeah yankeetom but the best and most ironic part of that ?? he didnt see it comin and even better he said he fealt a kinship with trashcanman lol he didnt want him to be harmed even ha.

  • trashy's skin was falling off here when he got back in the book

  • oh my god that was so pointless. In the end the evil people were destroyed by themselves. So the four men went to las vagas and three of them died for absolutely no reason. The spys were sent to las vagas for absolutely no reason. Nice.

  • @morphinemoniza

The three dead are dead because the God of the bible always demands human sacrifice.

The spies were sent so that Tom could save Redman and bring him back to Fran.

if you think it's a sacrificial overkill read the bible again

  • references to the bible are fine, but it still makes for very sloppy plotting, in my opinion.

  • @morphinemoniza I was just saying that in a Chapter in the Betrayal. The story would be so much better, if they didn't reference a god so much.

  • @TRYER25 Except it's a matter of good vs. evil.

  • @TheBookWorm1718 Your point being what? The The Book of Eli did a fine job of referencing a higher being, but didn't pray to god every second.

  • @morphinemoniza You're seriously an idiot morphinemoniza. It probably was pointless, but... Idk, that's what made the whole story great. The way things played out... Kudos to Stephen King. That's all I can really think to say. It was an outstanding book.

  • I am allowed to have my own opinions, just like you are allowed yours. My opinions don't make me an idiot but the way you choose to express yourself does make you very rude.

  • I love how insane Trash is used by God for good.

  • @YankeeTom63 so nice to know that God can use anybody isn't it!

  • it's pretty stupid to thumb this down. u people obviously have NO clue what she means. He uses the "lamest" of us, instead of the "best"

  • Maybe I should have said...if God can use me than God can use anybody...

  • hehe. u got it, sister! he's using an ex satanist as a missionary!!! crazy

  • The book is so much better than this gay movie, and in the book Flagg seems so much more evil.

  • @cisd002039

I agree, this miniseries sucks. Many terrible actors, and the ones that would later be good actors did a piss-poor job. I blame it on the director actually, or the casting.

But there are a few well done seens. I actually think the guy who played flagg did actually the best job of the entire cast. The guy from stargate that played Harold did good too, even if he was too much of a prettyboy to be in the roll.

But with this director and this budget, you will only get so much.

  • @jgrakowski Gary Sinise was really good in this. So was the guy who played Tom Cullen (just perfect as far as casting). The girl who played Nadine Cross was good and creepy too. And Ruby Dee did a wonderful job as Mother Abigail. Even Rob Lowe did an admirable job as Nick. The rest of the cast.... meh.

  • @cisd002039 This gay movie? Why the hell have you sat through like 4 hours if it was so gay?

  • whopper.

i dont get how Flagg didnt suss this shit out, i mean, goddamn, he's like a super-sorcorous dude, wtf?

  • "I saw a pale horse, a pale rider upon it. The name of the horse was pestilence, and the name of the rider was death." "It's the end of Las Vegas Tommy, & the end of Randall Flagg."

  • The big showdown between Mother Abigail & Randall Flagg in "Sin City", Nevada.

  • i just had a thought:

what if the 4 guys are representing the 4 horsemen of the Acopylise?

also: the big fire>:) "for you"(your death)

  • butcept they're the good guys...

  • lol trash loves the nuke i think he did things with it...he sure looks like it

  • why didnt it show whitney die!

  • I love the book, it's one of my favourites. As a mini series it's just so dated. But in the hands of the right director, what a wicked remake this would be!

  • Wow, gid's hand was such a great special effect!

  • Prior to this part, Flagg has Larry & Ralph prepped to be torn limb from limb. They implore the crowd to resist Flagg & 1 man (Whitney?) speaks up. Flagg creates a ball of energy to seal W''s lips & the energy engulfs W. It is at this time that Trashy drives up with the nuke. The energy around W is momentarily forgotten. It is W on the ground that the ("bat-faced" - lol) girl falls over. This is the energy that morphs into the hand/fist of God.

  • Wtf? lol...None of this makes any sense. God needed the four of them to go to Vegas, so that one of them could break his leg, one get shot, and the other two blow up when god detonates a nuclear bomb? That was the plan? lol

Don't you think God could have dropped that bomb withOUT the two guys walking to Vegas first?

  • Sacrifices must be made, and someone must bare witness to what occurs.

  • yes, BEAR witness, ur right

  • The way I interpret it after reading the book (I read the book first), their being sent to Flagg distracted Flagg from searching for Trashcan Man. Had Flagg NOT been distracted, Trashcan Man would have been found and killed before he could defeat Flagg and his followers. So their sacrifice is what saved the Free Zone.

Mind you, that is just my interpretation...

  • exactly right !

  • @donaldjr1969 That's part of it. The "Stand" though, relates to what good people must do. Stand and not back down even if that means death.

  • I love the book and the movie, Stephen King is the best.

  • Jesus, this is HORRIBLE XD

  • love trashys laugh at 1:50 hehe

  • Okay, so what happened to Flagg and his group? It wasn't clear.

  • The *Hand of God* dropped the nuclear bomb ontop of flagg and his people. When he nbo longer has any worshipers he couldnt on Earth anymore and him and his followers were sent to hell. According to this at least.

  • just his followers- in the book RF goes on to dominate an island people

  • Randall Flagg is a recurring character in alot of Stephen King books, and usually he meets with the same ending: His plans start to flake when met with direct force, and he himself usually meets a bad end, but when you get down to brass tacks you just can't keep a good villain down and he ends up popping back up someplace.

  • Flagg is King's evil, true pure evil nothing more .

  • A good time to say: let the man speak

  • Stu didn't die.

  • Do you know who's who?

  • No He did not die

  • They were sacrifices unfortunately. Drag, but it was important that they put their faith in Mother Abigail and the lord. The side of good had to make a Stand.

  • In the book it was alot more dramatic than this, shame it was not shown on here would have made it alot better

  • Ok... so what was the effing point on they going to flag?!?! haha omg!! they did nothing, the own soldier of flag made them all die!!!

  • Yeah it does seem kinda pointless doesn't it?

  • Comment removed

  • They both looked into the light of the explosion, so they will die of radiation disease.

  • When I read the book, in that last scene with the Hand of God, etc., etc., it was very intense and climatic. This...wasn't as climatic. I don't know.

Besides that, they got everything great.

  • Its a shame they didn't black out Trashy's teeth, in the book he vomited them out with the radiation poisoning. A small detail but effective in my opinion! And they don't show Stu's struggle to get out of the wash out.

  • There are a lot of details that they missed out that would have made a better adaptation but I suppose they have to work within budget and time restraints. Personally I miss The Kid. He is such a gruesome character and a good actor could have had so much fun playing him.

  • Definitely. Especially because they aired it on ABC.

  • Yeah The Kid was fantastic

  • they needed a better nuclear explosion

  • the end of R.F.????????

  • What was Matt Frewer singing as he drove in?! It almost sounds like Pat Benatar "we are strong ..." :)

  • He's singing "Ciabola, ciabola, bumpty bumpty bump!"

"Ciabola" was the place he imagined Vegas to be as he was headed there early in the book. It's not explained very well in the movie. Otherwise, though, this scene is pretty accurate to the book.

  • yes, God is VERY GOOD!!

  • cruddy special effects aside, (and the missing part) this scene was pretty well done.

  • Yeah there's definitely a part missing from the beginning of this scene.

  • @Kain5th Yep.

  • when this was on tv there was more to that scene when randall was talkin to the crowd. he zapped someone for questioning him with his finger and a ball of light killed the guy. what happened to that scene.

  • it should be here, i got it from my DVD and I know it's on the DVD... hmm..

  • no worries brunette427. i do thank u very much for posting this movie tho. your awsome.

  • Overlooked part? =P Thanks for uploading it anyways - started watching this at a friend's house and at the start of 'The Stand' chapter it stopped working. Now I'm getting to see how it ends. =P

  • lol at 5:07 ive done that some many times when the battery dies cant start the car so get the wheels rolling but once it didnt start but we were going down hill mad it to a rest stop

  • God's hand :D :D :D :D :D :D

And I think Trashy's kinda like a dog. When you tell it to shake his paw, he puts up his paw and scratches you all over and when he's done he cocks his head as if to say, "did I do it right?"

  • you ever see what he looks like in the novel?

  • Why is Trashy look so bad?

  • he got TOOOOOONS of radiation from the place he got the A bomb and also probably developed some cancer as well from it.

  • radiation from the bomb....the casing has been tampered with...in the book it explains it better....also explained in the book why Trashy turned to God....LOVE and finally acceptance....

  • trash wanted atonment from flagg, not from God.

  • actually, in the book, it was God. When trash went to flagg, he was pushed around and made fun of....again the outsider....he was sent on a mission....BUT it was God who turned out what was going to be used for evil, for good. God bless

  • No that's completely wrong. He was trying to make it up to Flagg for blowing up the choppers and planes on the airfield.

  • no, in the book...it's the Lord who ultimately reaches Trashy....and in whom Trashy finally finds acceptance. Flaggs crew made fun of Trashy...and everything that Flagg promised Trashy...never materilized.

  • i just finished the book again and Trash gives RF the bomb as a dedication. the book and the movie were good in different ways

  • . . . no . . . that's kind of the OPPOSITE of what happens in the book . . .

  • They have the same car like champion did.

  • 0:52

    STRIKE!!!! Finally she's dead!

  • My life for you!! the big one......FOR YOU!

  • u know, ur the fucking retard here u jackass.

  • ;_;
