  • MY BUMPS!

    THEY ARE GOOSING!!!

  • Tchaikovsky...a gift to humanity in the form of music

  • history behind the name??? has it anything to do with war of 1812?

  • @tinawerewolfgirl It's about Russians defending against Napoleon's invasion in 1812, not sure which battle though, one near Moscow though. The Russians Were pretty outnumbered from what i recall and the song was written to commemorate their bravery.

  • @Grapist217 it was the Battle of Borodino where the Russians defeated Napoleon the music was writen to comemrate the victory

  • I almost died from the cannon sounds!!

That would be a triumphant death,though...

  • The only song where a cannon is an instrument.

  • @CrossoverGameReviews Not really if we do consider the Victory of Wellington of Beethoven.

  • Of the classics, this is one of my favorites. Tchaikovsky, I believe is one of the best composer of the do I have it correctly, 19th century?? Yes, I believe that is accurate, late 19th though.

  • @wolves4life9 The cannon fire got ya, huh???

  • @Gecko7291971 It's not too bad, just my ears are bleeding. And people say the Sex Pistols make a lot of noise!

  • I thought when it said "cannons" it meant pieces "in which the same melody is begun in different parts successively, so that the imitations overlap", but it turns out they were actual cannons. o.O

  • @ColorfulHyena Yup, Tcaikovksy wrote it to be played with over 60 stage cannons. Fortunately/unfortunately (depending on your point of view) no one uses THAT many cannons when performing it

  • @ColorfulHyena LOL SAME

  • Felling so sleepy after listening to this song classical music slays me it puts me to sleep, but I love it so...

  • @MrAnarchygangster

  • @nevertocomebackagain +1+1+1+1

  • Oh how I love Tchaikovsky's masterpieces <3 Of all of the Russian romanticist composers, he is by far my favorite. Not to degrade others like Rimsy-Korsakov, or Stravinsky; each were great in their own right.

  • I am French but i have to admit that this song is a masterpiece. Furthermore, i am royalist (legitimist) so it helps me to like it. :)

  • Am I the only one who feels that the bells section near the end should be played much more slowly?

  • I always think of France when I hear this song but Tchaikovsky has nothing to do with France, correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @GReg22334 He is Russian, but the song is about Napoleons 1812 invasion of Russia, and the resulting Russian victory (hence the use of the French National anthem before God Save the Tsar followed by the great ending to signify the victory.

  • @PatrioticGiraffe1 a prick who teaches you to never underestimate a rose and it's thorns ;)

  • You are right!! This is on God's IPod!!!

  • @wolv20996 you're thinking of beethoven when he wrote his 9th symphony. "ode to joy" is the final (and most famous) section of the symphony.

  • What kind of horrible person would dislike this?

  • @xxTheDutchBoyxx ...douche bags who think the're too cool for classical music? XD

  • 13:58 - 14:20 = my favorite part

  • *14 year old, yes there are still some of us who love this kind of music*I love the dynamics in this song. It makes me happier than any other song :)

  • I cannot stop smiling after listening to this piece!

  • I've played this more than several times broadcasting on the radio. The best was during the Fourth of July fireworks -- still get chills remembering the night. BOOOOM!!! :)

  • @archman 1967

    i agree, this and fantasia

  • I wonder if he sat and got high and listened to his own stuff. You know just puff puff a couple of times and clode your eyes and watch the fireworks go off in your head to the music! That's what I'd do

  • This is on God's iPod

  • @archman1967 God does not play with Apples anymore.

  • I fought in 1812, but I took an cannon blast to the knee

(Yes, I will go to hell)

  • @japoniano No arrow?

  • I just love the sense of Freedom that this song inspires.

  • to bad he got killed for being gay, there would have been a lot more music of his today

  • @CaptainMexico21 Actually, I think he had committed suicide

Though, his death had at one time been contributed to Cholera

  • its just so much better than the music of today!

  • Astounding...the bells! The cannons!

  • It should be referred to as the _ _ _ _ Overture. Fill in the blanks for any year you wishesto put in.

  • @ElMalikHydaspes

I agree completely but let's move those words around a little, how about we try "This overture should be referred to as... the shit" cuz Tchaikovsky had the nes, let there be light, sound, drums guitar awwww "let there be rock!"

  • 2012 just begins.

    Imagine two century ago.... 1812...

  • @canyoutu I hope you do know Tchaikovsky didn't create this piece till 1880 . . .

  • @CaptSanderson

I do know that 1812 Overture was created around 1880. Did i say that it was created in 1812? I just wanted reader to thick about what it was like two hundred years ago.

  • @CaptSanderson

  • To Eduard Naprivnik:

"Last winter, at N. Rubinstein's request, I wrote a Festival Overture for the concerts of the Exhibition, entitled 'The Year 1812'. Could you possibly manage to have this played? If you like I will send the score for you to see. It is not of any great value, and I shall not be at all surprised or hurt if you consider the style of the music unsuitable to a symphony concert..."

    -P. Tchaikovsky

  • Wedding for sure. hahaha

  • Har vært i st.Petersburg, kjenner gravstedet til P.I: Tjakowski..30 hvite roser pæ han\s gravsted! 1992, sommeren

  • El sonido de los cañones es el señño distintivo de esta magistral obra de arte...

  • ahhh cannons not canons!

  • I finally know who's reincarnation Hans Zimmer is.

  • Thats one way of clearing the cob-webs from the ears! I do enjoy this at max volume, I try visualise when this would of first been heard with the cannons, and try imagine the audience reaction to the cannons being fired, It's a good solution to cue noisy neighbors too!

  • A revolution without cannons is not worth having.

  • REMEMBER.

  • @nelandquinten REMEMBER the Russian defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Borodino! And the Sacrificial burning of Moscow. THAT is what this masterpiece is about.

  • Comment removed

  • @Glyre777 Really? I wouldn't know. I dont speak Violin.

  • @Glyre777 You're wrong. The French won the Battle of Borodino strategically. They finished in the better position, but took greater losses than the Russians. The Russians then began a scorched earth strategy. The beginning of this piece describes normal Russian lives, then transitions into the oncoming French. Then the piece describes the Russians preparing, then to the French winning, then to the Russians turning the war and chasing Napolean back to Paris.

    TL;DR: Close, but no cigar.

  • @AesirVanir23 Well I stand corrected.

  • @Glyre777 dude, are you stupid? Napoleon won at borodino, dumbass, but it was a pyrhhic vcitory, which is why Napoleon was eventually defeated by the russians, THEN Tchaikovsky created this masterpiece

  • @turkeybaconable Someone who is obviously so much more intelligent than I would have no doubt have seen that I have already been corrected, in a much more polite and intelligent way. No, no...your language reveals who is "stupid" in this situation. How about you work on your spelling and capitalization too. If you correct someone in such a rude fashion you'd best hope that your correction is perfect.

  • @Glyre777 Yay, intelligent burn! :D

  • While the cannons and fanfare are perhaps more grand, I really do like the prayer at the beginning. It's beautiful and, I think, made even more so by the following majestic parts. It's a positively genius introduction to an overture written in comemmoration of a war, and such a war.

  • When and if my band plays this I SOOOOOOOO want the bass drum. I'd be like the center of attention.

  • @PoohStickProductions my band is playing this :)

  • stop mentioning pop celebrities and enjoy music at its best

  • gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh.

  • @macandfriends most epic comment ever!

  • The one place I expected to be free of a Justin Bieber reference. NOPE. Must keep looking.

  • Is there ever an inappropriate time to play this piece? Be it a birth, a wedding, or a funeral?

Seriously that would be the most awesome funeral ever. I would love to have cannons at MY funeral.

  • @TheImpressed That can be arranged... where do you want the cannons to shoot you?

  • @TheImpressed This song + viking funeral = epic win.

  • @TheImpressed At a funeral? EPIC!! Talk about a grand send off.

  • @TheImpressed At a birth??? For some odd reason it seems fitting for that situation.

  • @AmericanIdiot1035 *scream, bang, scream, bang*

  • @TheImpressed When russia plays france at football? (i think they should do it)

  • @TheImpressed i will have artillery if i get to play this song

  • @TheImpressed New Year's Eve :)
