This is great. Whata shame they had to stop touring. I had tickets to see them in Birmingham ( maybe 82 ) when they cancelled evryhting FOREVER. A couple of years before I didnt bother to see Joy Division as i was a bit short of cash that week. a fortnight later, IC hung himself!
@mrdavidlea I feel your pain - I had tickets to see the Who on their US tour back in 02. Entwistle died just before the start of that that tour so I missed him, but caught the band with Pino Palladino in his place. Also ended up missing out on what would be the final US appearances of jazz keyboard great Joe Zawinul before his death in 07.
I have XTC live on cd. The song is the same as the on here. I love this version than the one the band's album. The album version is played a little bite slower and it is not as long. If you can find the XTC live on cd. I suggest you get it. the whole cd is great. I think Any and colin are great musicians. They now what to write about in their music. XTC ROCKS !!!
I THOUGHT I WAS ONE OF ANDY'S BIGGEST FANS, BUT TO HEAR YOU ALL TALK, YOU KNOW MORE THAN ME EVEN THO I HAVE ALMOST ALL ALBUMS AND FUZWARBs GET A JOB!!!!!!
This is much slower than the "other" live version...(at least the "live in Japan" one ive got in the car in mp3 format)..Andy doesn't come across as smooth either.
If they'd been given free reign to explore this side of themselves more by those fools at Virgin instead of being forced to focus on the Top 30 they could have been an even bigger cult band than they are , more invention from an off the cuff Partridge guitar riff than most wannabe be current "indie" bands can manage in an entie album.
Radiohead?.....No comparison. But point taken. This is such a great example of the unique sound these guys created! So mecanical, yet charming, so inventive!
I like the live version of Battery Brides better than the album version.

I love the lumbering bass at the beginning of this, sounds like the theme from the film "The Big country"

Has anyone got "Dance with me, Germany"?

It's only available on the GO+ bonus EP, the Explode Together collection CD and on a Russian bootleg flexi. No video.

Right on.
That one from Transistor Blast has gotta be one of the best live tracks of all time... from any band.

So true Lord. The version on XTC's live album of this song that was recorded in 1980 is absolute sonic bliss!

I read somewhere it's supposedly a response to Brian Eno's comment that they did'nt need himto produce them

on the album it's listed as "Battery Brides (Andy paints Brian)". So you could be right.

The intro on this song (as well as the instrumental stuff they do throughout) is mind-blowing...
