yeeeeee-haw! You should rename this to Two Hicks in a moving van. I have to honestly say, once I got past the way they talk I was very interested in what they said. I agree with you guys. I was looking forward to seeing it too.
also notice they re-created the same error in this movie? first movie about angry mother... 2 confusing because hes dead... so the recreate it.. angry mother at beginning.. then hes alive... was he hiding then on this one? i seriously think this ignores all the movies, and is just a direct sequal to the first movie?
obviously theres a sequal... 13 movies... i just hope its more of a prequal with jason and has stuff for every one, old fans and new fans.. lastly the new movie is basically a sequal to friday 1980 and ignores all the rest
once again enjoyed it.. i know in the horror community these remakes get shitted on but i see it as a retelling and i don't compare it to the originals because what is the point? you will be disappointed im all for remakes
i more than agree on the music part. that's why i created a version of the movie with the manfredini score inserted into the movie and it definitely makes it a million times better.
I thought it was the best since part 7 (maybe 6). It could have been a lot worse. Lets hope they get the score sorted out for the next one, gore it up, and raise the suspense.
I disagree with all the haters. Been a horror fan all my life and Friday fan most of it. Didn't like TCM remake but liked this one. You loved it fine you hated it fine, but trying to fit someone's opinion into your idea of some mold of why that person loved or hated it is arrogant and assinine. And as usual these two prove they wouldn't know horror if it bit them on their little twats.Fuckalmighty these guys are full of themselves. love the idea of deadpit but these guys are just sad.
This movie's trailer did not impress me so i didnt see it in theaters. Im tired of the half assed remakes coming out every month! FUCKING MOVIE STUDIOS need to come up with new ideas and original storys without ripping off other ones or remaking them just for a new young audience to cash in on.
I love the original Friday the 13Th's even the bad ones just cause i grew with that cheesie 80's style of horror!
Joe: Kick ass review guys thanx for your thoughts on the flick. Im a fan of the "Jason" movies and its cool to here your view of the movie. thanx guys! I'll wait for the dvd rather then see it in theaters.
Hey are you guys getting as much shit as I am about criticizing the new Friday flick from some of our "Less than educated on decent Horror" horror fans? These guys get really defensive when you call them on their shit, or more like, lack of shit!
As usual, great critique from a long time fan, first time poster down here in San Anton', Tejas!! Jo
Absolutely! I've been reading SO many inane threads on message boards of people just bashing each other over this completely forgettable film! If you haven't heard it already, CK and UB's most recent MySpace show discusses this issue quite a bit. It's almost as if fans are so desperate to have a new Jason film in theatres, that they'll excuse anything that gets thrown on screen.
You do realize that people who thought they knew horror (critics and film reviewers) bashed the original Friday the 13th. Strange how the "true" fans have now become the new enemy of the current horror genre. It's getting like this more and more because horror fans are finding it hard to accept the new style of horror film (like the jump from Universal Horror to hammer horror). It is understandable, but is also incredibly snobbish.
I understand the point that you're making. My "beef" is that the new style of horror is completely unoriginal i.e. remakes. Hammer horror at least tried to put new spins on the old Universal monsters. It seems to me today that the horror genre is devolving because of lack of originality. At least when the original Friday was released, the filmmakers were TRYING to be original.
The original Friday the 13th was a spin on Psycho, which was a creative twist on the part of the screenwriter Victor Miller. There was nothing creative about this latest film. I would love to see something new and daring that speaks to the fears of our society today. THAT"S how we save horror for the new generation!
I dont think the producers were trying to save horror or win any trophies for this movie. In my opinion, having done TCM they wanted to bring back another horror icon: Jason. The nightmare on elm street, TCM and Friday the 13th movies were the ones mostly known. I do agree they have to come up with new idea's but this movie was still a great success in my opinion. The death scenes were brutal and freaky.
Hey guys , I think the hockey mask was explained somewhat... in the scene were padlecki & the chick go back to the cabin..and see the trophy for hockey ... it is shown very briefly.. a little silly but kinda cool too in a way.. I did also enjoy the movie... People expect way too much.. I just want to see jason kill and look at some t&a.. and i got that.. hope to discuss more on the call in portion thurs.
you guys hit the nail on the fucking head again!!! The first thing you said about the ki ki ki...ma ma ma was exactly what I was thinking the entire time that I watched the movie. "Where the fuck is that classic sound"? Lack of basics, shaky as hell camera work, classic F13th music missing, and Jason sparing a person's life just kinda ruined it for me. Definitely doesn't feel like I watched a Jason movie.
I thought the beginning with Jason's mom was way too fast and brief as well.
Agreed with the majority of what u said and..it is universal..they should have had the original friday music. I have to see this film away from my expectations and nostalgia so i am going to give it some repeated viewings and time but my first impressions....average and the most annoying main cast ever.
i didnt liek the texas chainsaw remake . i liked this movie but i do understand what your saying bout hte bad things...didnt liek the part where he hung up the chic k in the sleeping bag and traped her bf , also didnt like that he kept the one girl...our old jason wouldnt have kept her lol and i totally agree with the halloween thing i h ated tha tmovie so much lol
i didnt like how jason set traps , and what the hell was up with kidnapping the girl just because she looked like his mother ? that was stupid , so was the underground layer and the stupid bells lol . it just didnt feel like jason at all to me ,not even the jason we see on 2 and 3 . if they do another in the continuity of this, they should probably go with the dead zombie jason, that last 5 seconds of the film was cool.
I always though that Jason did drowned as a kid , apparently ive been wrong about that all these years even though i have been watching these films since i was in my single digits . on part 6 even didnt tommy lure jason into the lake because thats was supposed to be were he died ?
i dont think it ended up having any significance to how they killed him at the end but it had something to do with a b ook tommy read . ill have to watch that tonight , i own them all.
Hey Deadpit crew, don't use your energy trying to reason with people that's clearly to young to remember the first installments in this series. Many young people think this is a brand new movie character, amazing.Sadly I've come to terms with the sad fact that I've become obsolete as a target group.I belong to a different era of movie making, I understand there's a new breed of kids out there with different needs and wants. That's how I get past the sad feeling after having seen recent remakes.
tries a so hard to incorporate every staple of the original series but fails considerably. As bad as both films are, I could never in a million years understand how anyone would find this worse than Rob Zombie's Halloween. There's a fine line between mediocrity and complete garbage. The music was a huge hindrance with the F13 remake, definitely. Too much silence, and weirdly enough, that "machinery" music you were talking about eerily reminded me of Michael's "chase" music from Halloween.
The original formula minus the director's ineptness, shitty camerawork and music. The formula is there but those ingrediants ruined it sir...ruined it!
I couldn't agree more with every point you made, particularly the elephant in the room, Rob Zombie's Halloween. You have to consider how disgraceful it is when a film that for all intents and purposes ripped Halloween off (though F13 was still of course a great one), comes out on top in the remake department. From a different perspective, the difference is that Rob Zombie's Halloween shits on everything that made the original work, resulting in an out and out terrible film, while Friday the 13th
I liked the TCM remake but your right, I can give a shit about Marcus Nispel. Tits were the best thing in the movie and a black dude jacking off to a department store catalog. A lot of people that talk about liking it hardly describe their feelings. Humor was lacking, gore was shitty and it was over stylized. I have nothing to gain hating this movie. I rather enjoy movies. NO SUMMER CAMP. This movie sucked dick.
Good review! I had the same problems with the film I have with most action films these days, I can't understand why they think shaking the camera makes it more exciting. Jason keeping a hostage kinda took me out of the movie. I mean...WTF?
i though the tcm remake was ok, i thought this movie was pretty poor, no suspence until a little bit at the end, completely unamaginative kills - hes behind you, oh now your dead, and i cant belive they didnt use the creepy echoing kill kill kkill her her her(or whatever it says) in the film p.s does uncle bill drive an automatic?
The music sucked! The death scenes were pretty cool! Like the machete through the head in the beginning, then how the Asian guy got the tool through the throat, also how he throw the ax into the black guys back then viciously slammed him to the ground and it went through him, and I especially liked when Jason killed off that annoying fucking asshole! The acting did not have to be good and neither did the dialog because how many horror films really focus on that. Overall I give a 7 out of 10!
I agree that the camera work and the lack of Manfredini's score hurt the film, however how can u listen to Felcher's advice agreeing the movie is just "there" when it was in fact much more there than anything George Romero has done recently. You guys get way too influenced by other people's opinions. Wonder why this complaint keeps coming back again and again - it's cos it's true!! This movie was the most authentic Friday the 13th since part 5.
I saw some of this online and I felt like I was watching the TCM Remake with Jason in it. It looked the same and sounded the same. I kind of like the TCM remake and the look for it worked for me but it just didnt feel right for a F13 movie.
The Power of F13th...Dude sat in a broken seat. Only a Jason movie could make a person not give a shit where they sit. Im glad you guys didn't totally hate this film. Can't wait to see it!!!
Me personally jason was a beast in this but i got to say it was good but the music did suck and if anybody wanted to bring jason back they should have went back to the ending of freddy vs jason and then start off of that but i guess we'll see a nightmare on elm street and then good possibily see a jason vs freddy 2 but who knows lol
Great review guys. All I can say is Michael Bay does it again. Does every movie this guy touches turn to shit or what. The scariest part of that movie was that I paid $8.00 To see that crap.I am a hugh friday fan but this fell way short to me. I thought I was watching TCM with jason as a guest star. Whatever...Stop with the shity remakes already. It's getting out of hand.
you mean you think it did not have cool kill scenes at how about when shot that guy in the head whit the arrow or when he killed the girl under the dock or how he killed the sheriff or when he slam that guy down on the axe?
I guess I am in the minority but I fucking loved the movie. It gave me everything I wanted from a f13 film. I also loved how jason was samrt. I am glad as hell this made 42 mill over the weekend so I know there will be a sequel. To me this film showed that americans can still do great horror films.
Thank you! Thank you so much. My fiance and I have just recently started reveiwing movies here on youtube and we thought exactly the same things. Too many cheap scares, underground layers (wtf?), just all around yucky fight scenes, we completely agree. We've had a few people tell us we were crazy because of how down we were on this movie, but it really didn't even feel like a friday movie. I was thoroughly dissapointed.
Good review, guys. All your points are definitely valid, and I think I felt the same in a lot of ways, but in the end I was still sort of entertained by the flick. I actually liked it. Not saying it was amazing or anything, but I just can't lie, haha.
OH PS, I don;t think Jason Lives was a good film. The New Blood IMO had NOTHING going for it but the SFX, the movie was bad. So, that's why I rank it above those two as well as anything after it.
I'll always like those movies better regardless because I grew up with them and have watched them a gazillion times over the years. I didn't even expect this one to be in that same league. I was comparing it more to the New Line Jason movies which is more fair I think. Are you going to do a video review on F13? If anyone should its you sir!
Ya know. I actually dug the movie a bit, it has been the better ones since Jason Lives but I dunno... it had some really boring parts, some dumb parts but in the end it was a little more solid than I expected.
I forgot all about that ticket that was in my copy of His Name Was Jason.Oh well, I liked it. I just hope that their won't be another generation of Friday sequel's.
great review guys. i thought some of the kills were good. jason looked really werid though. what i found really odd was jason was shooting arrows lol when i saw that i was like wtf haha.
I'm a dumb ass idiot because I went to see it on the 13th! Happy was I because for whatever reason the whole front row was full of 9 year olds! Like WTF? They wouldn't shut up either!
Nispel took Jason, dropped him in Leatherface's universe.
Then filmed it with that same rust and shit colored look of his TCM remake.

Don't get me wrong, it doesn't beat the 80s Fridays, but I liked it better than all the other New Line ones.

I liked the new film. It brought everything back to what works. It was classic Friday the 13th in a lot of ways.

Agreed on the music dudes, that seems to be the one consistent thing that just about everyone disliked about it.

you mean you think it did not have cool kill scenes at how about when shot that guy in the head whit the arrow or when he killed the girl under the dock or how he killed the sheriff or when he slam that guy down on the axe?

Thanks for keeping it real and not being sheep who accept this solely because it has FRIDAY THE 13TH in the title.

Good stuff guys! It butchered the box-office with a take of 42 mil! But I want my money back!
