Was that term brought up by Danny?, because in Mexico we use it a lot, at least here in Tijuana, is really common, in spanish of course, we say "Juras", wich literary means "you swear", when something is unlikekly to happen like in Dany´s homework example; and we say "Te juras" or "se jura", wich means "you swear to yourself" or "she swears to herself" when someone is given his/herself more importance than what they really have, like in Chris´s example. But is really common in Mexico.
