Unfortunately, it appears the television footage of Bathurst Bikes are Back 2000 has gone missing!!! We are gobsmacked as we always believed it was kept securely under lock & key! The tapes were never in our possession, but we own the footage! How the hell these tapes have been lost is anyone's guess. We had been looking forward to having this released for Xmas, but it won't be happening.
@wincherup so more motorcycle history is lost due to the incompantance of race organisers its a shame i was looking forward to seeing the races i was there and my mates raced looks like its only a memory now.
Hey I raced at the 200 event and would seriously like to get hold of the footage or dvd.
I have all the lap times etc if anyone is interested
I travelled from Darwin to race there, met some great guys, Curtain and the radar team were awesome guys, but especially Martin Childs, what a nice fella, a real character, I do have a little footage of the pits, but not the best. Heres hoping I can get one of these dvd's
would you know where i could get some footage of the easter 2000 races at bathurst. A good friend raced there that year and would love some video of it. Been trying for nearly ten years and cant get any!!
@gixxerbones Just letting you know that I am expecting the television production shot at Bathurst NSW, for the "Bikes are Back at Bathurst, Easter 2000 event," to be released on DVD by Christmas 2010 for all you Rev Heads!
No worries! We did the actual outside broadcast television production at the time & have just given permission for the release of the footage to enable a much awaited DVD to be made. Stay Tuned!
@wincherup my mate that raced there said there was some argument over rights to the footage or something like that. He went well when he raced there, he came 11th out of 52 i think it was. He rode a standard r6 and was lapping 2min 26. he had never been there before. C. Clark from tassie. Hopefully you have some footage of him!
I don't know where he got that info from! We own the footage and the problem was that the organisers went bust on the day, owing us and many others, mega bucks, which is why it never made it onto the TV screen! We have now given permission for the footage to be made into a DVD. We used 16 cameras so your friend may be on the DVD when it's released. Good luck!
@wincherup found out my mate raced in the formula bathurst races on friday and saturday so if you have some footage of that it would be great! apparently he was filmed for three laps dicing with a pommy fella martin child.
We filmed every day, so it's possible. We have no control over the end product which obviously will be edited. Can't promise anything other than the fact that hopefully, the DVD should be available by Christmas!
@gixxerbones I was there that year for those races. I have some video on an old VHS but i have no idea where that cassette is now. I traveled from the NT for the easter races. IF i find it ill let yuou know as i took loads of fottage that weekend.
I was a spectator in '68. The track has, of course, been changed a good deal, to slow it up, it was blindingly fast in the old days, I recall Ronnie Tombs raising the roof by topping 155mph on ConRod, "We don't have the gearing to go faster," this on a tired ex-GP Yamaha RD56, 250cc disc-valve twin, type ridden by Phil Read/Michelle Duff. I also recall a guy taking to the escape road at the end of ConRod, and smashing into the ambulance that took his body away. It needed slowing.
I went to Mt Panorama at Easter 1981 for the bike racing and it was fair dinkum (and dangerous)in that era.I think Geoff Taylor and co-rider won the main side-car event/Ron Boulden won the 500cc event/Greg Pretty won both
the 750cc or unlimited event and also the Super Bike event. But i could be wrong.
Their were some nasty injuries on and off the track that week-end regretfully.Racers were a dedicated lot in those days and prize money was minimal.
looks like great fun. i remember watchin the bikes go round up there in 2000. kevin curtin was absolutly destroying that place, i cant remember what times he was doin but he was movin. i heard he was doin well over 300 down conrod. id love to see some superbikes go aroung there again. theyd blow that v8 lap record out of the water! loved the vid . i bet you wanted to just unleash the throttle though!
Mick, you would lurve this place actually racing.I did,as a humble D grader in 1982,(yes!)236kmh on a Katana 750,watching the Katana 1100's,CB1100R's flash past at least 30 kmh faster, believe it! Until you do,ya don't know what awesome is!

Footage of bikes around Mt Panorama is so rare that it seemed like a good idea to put it here regardless of the speed or quality!!!

Mate the only rider to go over 300 down Conrod was a Jap rider by the name of Kanaya in 1978 he did 301.
StockStandardTZ 3 years ago
Don't think it was Kanaya,I reckon it was Ikujiro Takai on factory TZ750

was this on a closedroad??
nightojunior 3 years ago
Yes it was a demonstration session
But the speed was restricted by a car and trike at the front
michaelc54 3 years ago
Pity about the speed restriction.
Would have been better with a better camera and sound. wmg muted it due to the music.
roadmonitoroz 2 years ago
What's this Mick? There was only practice and racing,no demonstrations, how could you do that speed(which Takai did)with something in front?
