Nintendo of America is too (conservative) when it comes to releasing their titles. They would rather release another Zelda, Mario Party, or a lame 3rd party title instead of being progressive and giving the Mother games one more shot.

The unfortunate part is that the excuse is that it wouldn't generate enough income. it's almost true. Mother as a series has many pop culture references that could get Nintendo into copyright trouble. The cost to get permissions for all these references would be expensive. Why they didn't get in trouble the first time? No clue. Copyright laws suck ass. That and we live in a culture that is lawsuit happy for no reason.

Lets not forget if they use mother 1+2 and mother 3 for the gameboy advanced virtual consle, they might use the fan translation and give credit to tomato and others who worked on this and use the mother 1 translation for mother 1+2. it might cost them to retranslate earthbound itself.
