seriously, he ran 2/3 the way across canada with leg and cancer. All to raise money for other people. What the hell have you done? ( i mean besides talk a big game on the internet)
Just one correction: Thunder Bay happened on Monday, 1 September 1980, Labour Day. Since then, the Terry Fox Runs have been on the second Sunday after the Labour Day weekend in Canada.
27 years later, I still marvel at what Terry did. Shawn Ashmore acted admirably in "Terry", but he had no hope in matching Terry's speeches after meeting Greg Scott and when he had to retire from the run...no one could. As an American, I remain irritated that our press gave little coverage of the marathon.
Terry was great. The definition of strength, courage, role model, drive, motivation, inspriration, hero, superhero= Terrry Fox!!!!!!!!!!!!Makes me proud to be canadian!
I don't know if there has ever been any one person as selfless and courageous as this man. Without saying a word, he lead a multitude of people to do good things. Even from the grave, he still makes us take a look at ourselves and think of what we can do to be a better person.
There is no doubt in my mind or religion that Terry had an express ticket to heaven. His spirit will be at Saint John's NF next 12 April (Easter!) when twelve runners will trace his Marathon of Hope twentynine years ago. I will look for him in heaven when I get there. Terry is my hero, the first one born after me.
Terry Fox should have won the title for the greatest Canadian that ever lived...not Tommy Douglas. R.I.P. Terry you were and still are an inspiration to us all!!!!
I was in the first Terry Fox run, after Terry had passed away, today my two sons are partaking in this honorable run. I followed Terry's journey through news papers and watching on tv... and to this very day I have tears when thinking of all he had sacrificed in order to stop this deadly disease and save someone elses life. Terry, you have always been and always will be my hero. thank you. Allison xo
how dumb are you? like really dont make comments like that and get out of your house. jesus this guy is a worldwide hero. think about it. its not that hard.
that is soo weird i saw this in school today in a student of the moonth award and there is this teacher and she puts it toghter and i saw it today in school!!!!
Just looking at that poor guys face when he was talking to the media,I could tell that he new he wasn't going to live much longer. But thanks to his upfront determination of following a dream, his legacy still lives on to this day & hopefully forever more.
I'd be so proud if Terry had been my uncle (unlikely because he'd be slightly younger than I am). I'd be pestering Darrell (be he an uncle or a dad) to tell me the details of the run. I guess that the movie "Terry" and Leslie Scrivener's book is the best I can do.
The movie "Terry" is available, for I bought it off Amazon last month. Shawn Ashmore is amazing in the role. After 27 years, Terry still gets to me. Because I live in the United States, I had to go around to get it and the coin. However, both are available on the Terry Fox Foundation website.
CBC still has a website with the archives of the run. I have a link to that lost interview with Joe Mullen near Corner Brook, Newfoundland, which I think epitomizes the Marathon of Hope.
He gave, gave and gave until he had nothing more to give but his life. He gave it all and wanted nothing more than to help others. One way or another, lets find a cure! Thank-you Terry Fox and his family, Terry can't come back to us, but we can go to him.
I love terry fox hes a hero to canada... GO TERRY FOX!!!!!!!!!!!1 one of my friend was being an ass and made fun of him, and me and my friends said we'd laugh if he died because he has no heart... even my friend who calls me a freak said that that was harsh to make fun of Terry
Terry, you were one of a kind person put on this planet...there will probably never be another with your honorable spirit and courage.. You taught many a nation what a true hero is...God bless you in Heaven.
He was and will remain the greatest example of inner strength and hope.. when you think your day is so bad that you don't wanna get outta bed...just think of this boy and the pain he put up!! GOD BLESS YOU TERRY FOX...You make me proud to call myself a Canadian.
Terry is a "true hero." I saw the made for HBO movie when I was six years old and got choked up. To this day, it is emotional to see something so terrible happen to a great person. He was extremely tough to go on a 2 thousand mile Journey to raise money. RIP Terry-you are a real Superhero!
It's called "Never Give up on a Dream" by Rod Stewart. It was written by him and Bernie Taupin (Elton John's writer) as a tribute to Terry and is on the Stewart album "Tonight's the Night" I believe.
dude so sorry to hear about that...best wishes to ur mom. i HATE cancer i cant wait to see it wiped out because ive lost so many people to it. i hope ur mom hangs in there and gets through this horrible ordeal. best wishes to you and your family
It's been a while since I watched this video since I made it. It has new meaning since I just found out Friday that my Mom has a large tumor wrapped around her esophagus and one of the arteries in her heart.
omg.. I'm so sorry! I can't imagine how hard it is for you right now. I wish your family good luck. I have lost a few people to cancer, but I was young when it happened. I'm really sorry and I hope your mom gets better soon.
It was an inspiring story. I learned a lot from his life, NEVER GIVE UP nowmatter how difficult our lives it could be. Be positive always.Reach for the star!
