I'm a Greek Life member at another school, and we have strict rules (similar, but not as harsh as yours) that govern how we handle our alcohol and social events. We still have fun and enjoy ourselves. While it is true that college is a growing experience and you are all adults, something was clearly wrong if a student died. Your actions are a direct reflection of your fraternity/sorority, so you always need to keep in mind how your behavior hurts those around you. You'll all learn to cope.

When you join a social society like Greek life, you hold yourself to a higher standard than independents. By centering Greek life around drinking, you ignore the more productive ideals your founders created the society on. i hope that everyone who views this video realizes two things. one, aepi is no longer a fraternity because they chose to do things that give all fraternities at penn state a bad rep, and the fact that they were kicked off campus should prove the lack of credibility that the idiots talking in this video have. two, the rules that the ifc implements are created by a council of fraternity members elected by the presidents of the fraternities in the council.

This is absolutely absurd. The notion that a War on Fun has been waged against America's future at Pennn State is a joke. Coming from a relatively much smaller Toronto Greek scene I came to Penn State two years ago and it was probably one of the best experiences I have had in college. Fraternities and Sororities provide leaders, just look at who has graduated from these scenes. Nevermind the fact that when the shit went down during any major war, many Greek organizations almost folded...
because the fine members of these organizations found it more important to proudly serve their country. Banning drinking is as ridicolous as a notion of banning crime.

because the fine members of these organizations found it more important to proudly serve their country. Banning drinking is as ridicolous as a notion of banning crime.
But hey, I know the Fraternities and Sororities of Penn State will keep it together, all Greeks have been persecuted by their schools from the beginning and we are still here. Looking forward to State Patty's Day 2011...
PS. If at all, get rid of IFC, it works really well for us, still recognized by our HQs. =D

@koffeestain do you not realize what IFC actually does for fraternities at Penn State? They have rules that are supposed to help and save you from getting shut down, but fucking idiots can't follow them and make the rest of us look bad.

@tso129 I understand , but the same can be argued about our various HQs and their risk management policies; ones that are blatantly being violated everyday. I think the problem here is too many "policies" and not enough common sense, as you alluded to with regards to idiots who can't hold their liquor. The IFC (in other campuses too) just represents another level bureaucracy. Too much bureaucracy is never a good thing. I understand the delicate balance of dealing with school administration..

@tso129 and individual organizations, but the lack of cooperation here looks like a serious problem. Red tape and an unnecessary amount of forms will not help solve binge drinking, it will just lead to more innovation on how to not get caught. I hope you understand where I am coming from, as this precedent is a serious problem for all Greeks.
