My trainer told me to keep my knees together while still executing this on one foot. I ended up straining my lower back. Was squeezing my knee's together the wrong thing to do? Or is it just that the exercise may have been too advanced?
How can develop balance for this exercise, or is it okay, when beginning it, to steady yourself on something? I like the exercise, but I wobble so much I am more focused on balancing than moving the weight.
well if you just focus on the balance then eventually you will get it. Some things just take a little time is all. I wobbled a lot when I first started the exercise.
No they're not they are close to the same but not. One uses the lower back for power the other is glutes and hamstrings. But this is a pretty pointless exercise in my opinion unless your a girl. You lift to either get big or get strong, or lose weight this doesn't really do any of them well.
You're an absolute retard. The point of doing a single-legged deadlift is for balance and unilateral training, which is just as beneficial for functional training as the traditional romanian deadlift. Do some research before you come here with bullshit.
Du mbest exercise I have seen so far

This is a great exercise for glutes, and for you idiots out there....girls stare at ur ass just as much as you do theirs.

That's not a romanian deadlift.

Yes it is.

Dude, you are supposed to shift the hips backwards rather than simply bending from the hips.
Now, when you do it with both legs, YES, you are doing that, and thus, you are executing a romanian.
It is when you do it with a single leg that you are stiffling the hip movement, turning it into a unilateral stiff-legged deadlift.
Regards.

Stiff leg deadlift and romanian deadlift are the same thing.

Haaa Haaa! You are HIlarious.
You don't use your lower back to lift!
And your conclusion is so funny too. It is not only ignorant but deliciously sexist as well.
I have a very strong feeling that you cannot perform this exercise

@DeadBeetle A point well said, not to mention keeping your hamstrings in immaculate condition.
