As result of that I've said. The combat results must have been as follows:

USA-Kills: 3 Kfirs (the 3 by F-16s) and the Enemies-Kills: 1 C-130, 1 F-4 and 1 F-16 (the 3 by the Kfirs) At the end, the Kfirs and the americans retreat as result of DRAW. I'm saying this because the movie's dogfight scenes. But in longe range combat, the american-russian force win the battle using Amraams (F-16D) and Sparrows (F-4Es) against the Kfirs. At long range the combat is for the allies. At near distance don't.

I think the combats are very bad by these reasons:

1- One F-4 in the range of the Kfir is near to die. The Kfir is dogfighter (I mean Python omnidirectional missiles) and the F-4E is more specialized in long range kills.

2. The Kfir at long distance from the F-4 is near to die.

3. Yes, as in the movie, in climbing the F-16 is more than the Kfir, but in turning the Kfir is more. Also in maneuverability.

4. The combat between Kfirs and F-16s must have been a draw. Both planes are very same.

If you look at the bombers left wing at 2:19, you can definitely see something odd attached to it. This plane is not real. It looks like a model being railroaded by some machine under the camera.

North Korea has nukes, but they are big and cumbersome and so far they cant adapt them to ICBMs so they are for now field weapons (short range or bombers).. and thats from a country that has had nukes for several years, Iran doesnt even have one yet , so its still far away from having missiles capable of reaching your beloved ones

I am curious of how the Russian Bear and US B-52 were going to get past the SAMs to drop their bombs? They didn't have a fighter-bomber group come in before to take out the SAMs with Anti-Radiation Missiles, so how are the Bombers supposed to get through?

@djargus Depends on what type of SAM's they were. Both of those are high altitude bombers, and since they were protecting a canyon they would've used low to medium range SAM's.

Of course it's Hollywood, it doesn't have to make sense :P

In IE4 Doug has flashbacks of the KGB interrogating him and torturing him (by privation of water or food) about the number of planes and details of US forces ..

Of course thats just a sorry excuse from the writers to justify why Doug was considered dead even by Chappy and why he dissapeared all along IE2 and IE3. Also acording to IE4 the KGB forgot about him when the URSS fell and only a senator found and freed him in the late 90s.

F-4s advantage was its raw power.. in Vietnam pilots used the power against MIG-17s flying in the vertical because they knew they couldnt outturn a MIG-17.. but they could outrun and outclimb quite much

Everybody complaining about the F-4' Phantoms posing as Mig-29's should realize that they did the same thing in Top Gun with F-5 Tigers posing as fictional Mig-28's.....be reasonable people, this film was made during the cold war when it wasn't exactly easy to get your hands on a Soviet built aircraft

@XXformula The flying scenes in Top Gun were done by real students (flying the f-14s) and real instructors (flying the F-5Es (MiG-28s)). Also it was made with the navy helping. This movie is also not realistic at all in terms of air combat and what goes on.

The F-15 would seem a better fit but maybe the IAF would be unwilling to lend their prime fighters to do a movie.

Its not a problem of money.. its a problem of being unable of use a model in a time..today probably it wouldnt be a problem to use a Fulcrum (in fact i have seen a Fulcrum pose as a F-16 in ground in a crapy IE footage ripoff)

Actually, if you´re talking about the plane´s guns, it´s real, they can be fired directly to the enemy when lock on but of course the gun´s direction range is not that big, and of course they don´t seek like a heat missile.

attack helicopters can track with the gun and some bombers/attack craft (AC-130) can , but no fighter can direct the gun as today.

The worst mistake in this movie was to kill off Doug Masters in the first 5 minutes. It would be like killing off Luke Skywalker in 'Empire' or killing off John McClane in 'Die Hard 2'.

The 2 seater F-16 is due to reusing footage from Iron Eagle 1 wich used F-16Bs...

Naa, Iron Eagle 1 had worst editing even in movie continuity (at one point he sais he has 2 sidewinders left, he after fires one.. and after that he sais he has no more missiles left)

Top Gun also screwed up with loads.. Maverick at the end sais he has only one missile left and when he fires it you can see more under the Tomcat
