  • And stay relaxed the entire time.

  • @joeyyowee Of course changing your form won't feel "natural". The idea of pose running is efficiency. Not only is energy output reduced, impact on the body is drastically reduced providing for fewer injuries. The technique described by Dr. Romanov IS the natural way to run! (just watch young children run and you'll see)

  • @asimplegenius I know that it is, but most people in the USA got so used to heel striking that it's hard to change their form completely. I agree that it's good to tweak your form and use some of the techniques that Dr. Romanov recommended, but it's not good to go from severe heel striking to running on your toes.

  • @joeyyowee On the contrary! As a professional massage therapist who worked a lot with college athletes, AND a competitive long-distance runner of 20+ years (including 2 NJCAA national half marathon championships) I see the absolute NEED for heel-strikers to change! My specialty is injury massage and most of the injuries I worked with could have been avoided with a change to their form.

I understand that it's "hard to change...form completely", but it's POSSIBLE and the benefits are IMMEDIATE!

  • @asimplegenius I personally think that the main causes of bad form are overstriding and running in cushioned trainers instead of minimalist shoes. Even some elite runners like Haile and Tadese have a slight heelstrike, but it doesn't matter because they aren't overstriding and their form is still good. If you ran barefoot your entire life, having decent form would be second nature to you. My form has improved drastically since I shortened my stride length and went minimalist.

  • @joeyyowee So, by changing some basic elements to your form and going minimalist in you footwear you notice the benefits! It seems that you are simply undesiring to 'conform' to a specific method. Good for you for finding better form, though! It's always nice to find those small improvements that make big differences!

  • @joeyyowee heel-striking is only good for walking, not running. Looking at a video of professional speed walkers, they look like the way most people run, which is on their heels. Scary.

  • I think pose runners focus too much on having a "perfect form." I agree that it's good to shorten stride length and to kick your legs up higher instead of overstriding, but I don't think a complete change in form is necessary to be a good runner. You also have to do what feels natural to you. If you grow up heel striking your entire life, converting to a forefoot/midfoot striker could be challenging and it might not feel natural. Just shorten your stride length and kick your legs up.
