@AlephNeil hehe, yes, they used things. A sampler is an electronic device, usually a giant metal box with audio I/O on the back and controls on the front, used to record and playback sounds. For example, one can record drums and loop them so they play over and over. Which frees up the musician to do other things. One can also control individual sounds and use a sequencer to playback the sounds, again freeing up the musician to do other things. Today computers are used for the same task.

this song is "the box" its from Orbital and can found on the album "in sides" (a 2 disk album made in the 1996). also on the 2nd cd there is the box remixed in 2 or 3 different ways. its been a while since I've listened to it.

OK..... so the 90's are a little fuzzy for me... wasn't there a version with some guy singing? THAT was cool - very dark lyrics.  Instrumental version is cool, but the lyrics was amazing.
